Hi all, This will be my first trip to the world w/ a baby under 1. I was wondering what you fed your little one while on vacation? Did you find enough stuff on menus/buffets to feed them w/out going the baby food route?
I have talked w/ DD's Dr and she said she would be fine going off her "normal" diet for a few weeks while on vacation.
Right now she eats 3 meals a day. B, L, and D all rice or oatmeal cereal w/ fruits and veggies. I would hate to pack 52 jars of baby food in my luggage. She does eat some things off our plates right now (only 7 months now). I'm just feeling as if she might need more than we will have on our plates. I was thinking maybe if I bring 1 jar of food per day and the rest off our plates.
TIA for the help and advice.

I think, if I remember correctly, DD was completely off jar foods by 9 mos. Bring some jars just in case, but if she's a pretty good eater, I would bet she'll just eat off your plate. GL!

I just went last month and my little one was 7 months. I brought oatmeal and some jars of food with us. She also ate shredded chicken, soup, french fries. She is not a picky eater. Have you looked into having groceries delivered to you

I am having things delivered but thought it would be to much hassle to order baby food. I am silly about what I buy her.

I didn't think about chicken. She is a real good eater and munches on lots of things. I try and introduce something off our plate every night too her. Hopefully by then she won't eat so much baby food. I know I'm being silly. Just having a "worry wart" mommy moment.

We were really particular about what we fed DD too. We only used Earth's Best jarred baby food. When we went to WDW, she was 8.5 months old and on ceral, baby food & formula only. We ordered the exact Earth's Best foods we used at home from wegoshop.com and had them delivered to the room with the rest of our food order. It really was easy to bring 2-3 jars into the parks each day along with a couple of bottles.

My DS NEVER ate baby food or baby cereal! if he couldn't feed himself he wouldn't eat it so he was eating table food at 6 months. You can find a tremendous amount of food off your plate. Scrambled eggs, any Pasta, noodles vegetables, another good way is to order veg. soup and scoop out the veggies and give them to the baby cause they are soft, mashed potatoes-his favorite, soft french fries, meat loaf, meatballs, broken up hamburger, ice cream, cheese, pieces of hot dog-but not round circles too easy to choke, macaroni and cheese, pancakes, waffles, french toast, applesauce, pudding, yogurt, I also gave him peanut butter but some don't, the list just keeps going! We traveled a lot and I could always find something to order and share.

If you are planning on not using any baby food at Disney Then you need to start that diet well before you leave. you can't spring a complete diet change on a little person over night. Or if you just plan on supplementing more than usual then bring a jar or 2 per day and go from there and start giving them more real food at home.

My DS turned 10 mos on our trip. I think I took a couple of jars "just in case" but ended up bringing them home with me.

He ate off our plates completely. Buffets were great because I could get as much soft stuff as I could find. And I usually ended up taking a banana or bagel or roll or something for a snack later (if necessary).

I did have puffs and cheerios for him for snacks. And some of those yogurt melt things.

I'd say if your little one is already eating off your plate don't worry about taking baby food for every meal, just a few "in case of emergency" jars maybe.

Thanks everyone. I knew I'd get help from here. My older DD never really ate baby food. So it's all new to me really. I felt like because my little DD is eating baby food so well I didn't want to rush her. I know it's a hard subject everyone is different. I think I bring a couple of jars w/ us and feed her off our plates. Thanks!

My daughter was 10 months on our last trip. We started before we left giving her foods we figured we would find easily in the restaurants. At all the buffets we found plenty she could eat. By far, her favorite was the cornbread at Hoop Dee Doo! :) Also, my other two children were 2 and 3.5 at the time. All there kids meals came with a container of applesauce, which Emily also ate. Of course, that meant a lot of applesauce for her, but she loved it! Have a great trip!

I would do a little of both. Take some food and try to feed her some off your plate (there will be way enough). I would caution trying too many new things all at once at WDW. Foods all need to introduced one at a time anyway and WDW is not the place to discover an allergy. Also if she is used to a healthy diet of ceral and fruit and veggies, too much junk might create some major tummy troubles!!!

looks like we're going to be there around the same time with the same age babies!

ds is eating different foods which i make for him and freeze in ice cube trays. he eats about 6 cubes a nite. yellow squash is his favorite! otherwise we do baby crackers and formula and cereal.

i'm kinda iffy about feeding him stuff from our plates when we go out to eat. if it's a sauce or something like that, i'll dip my finger in and dab it on his tongue. he liked the soft butter at cracker barrel! got an mmmm out of him! :rotfl:

i plan on bring formula and bottles (i use the playtex drop ins), so i'll have 2 bottles/nipples, liners and the formula on me in the parks. along with the crackers. we'll have a car, so when we get to orlando, we'll stop at walmart and buy him some jarred stuff.

i've been trying to figure this out since we made our reservations. i'll be asking his ped dr about other foods he can have. he's a healthy eater, at 6 months he was 19lbs. :thumbsup2

We leave on 9/30...YEAH only 47 more days. Thanks Heavens I need a vacation! Where are you staying? We are at the Pop. I had my family booked @ CSR but the rest of my GG couldn't get over there so I had to move over to the Pop. Which is fine w/ me we love the Pop. I was looking forward to a rest. at the resort however. Oh well.

I too use drop-in's. Love them. It will be a lot easier I think in the parks too. I've bought x-small tupperware containers so exactly 6oz. of formua fits in them. That way I can just pour it into a bottle no messy measuring.

My DD is a very good eater but still petite. She only weighs 15lbs right now. She is very long though.

I think what I have decided to do is give her breakfast every morning rice/oatmeal and fruit. Seeing it will most likely be in the room anyway. I know the rest of my family won't be up yet. And then feed her things off our plates in the parks. I will have her snacks and things as well. I feel better about it now. As it is really HOT here at home lately and she doesn't eat as much because of it. Thanks again.

My kids were always off of baby food by then so they ate what I ate. I would work on getting your baby used to table food. You have a month to go so that should be plenty of time. You can always bring one of those small baby food grinders with you they are small enough to fit in a diaper bag.

It won't be hot hot that time of year, but remember they need to drink to prevent dehydration. At that age, my children all 'upped' their nursing a lot when we traveled to WDW, Florida, Jamaica, anywhere warm. So, if you are not nursing, pack/bring/buy extra formula, (as babies can have some water, but ask your ped. many do not want babies to have a LOT of water...as it upsets their small systems chemistry)

I will have to be the dissenting opinion. I would not switch her to mostly table food before the trip. I would stick with what she is familiar with. Carrying 2 or 3 containers of baby food and some rice cereal is not a big deal. You will have some kind of bag anyway for diapers. You can mix it in a cup from the place you are eating and you can carry disposable baby spoons. You never know how a child will react to new foods- or familiar food cooked a new way or with different spices. You don't know what bothers them until after they eat it.

My son was 8 months when we went and was definitely eating pureed food still. Really he was just upping his intake at that point. I don't think he was eating any table foods at that age.
We have baby food, diapers, wipes (and other perishables) delivered from greengrocer.com. Super easy.
My son ended up going through his food faster than he did at home and we bought some at the resort shop too. Not too much selection, but ok in a pinch.
