What did people take to help with motion sickness

I always use the scopalamine patch for trips; especially those involving boats or amusement park rides. It works great and I've never had any side effects. I like it much better than the OTC meds. They make me sleepy.

I took Bonine last summer and FJ still made me feel sick but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I ended up closing my eyes at some points. I am going to ask my doctor about the patch before we go down in November.

I use the patch behind the ear, and it works great. I get motion sickness so easily and this has been the only thing that has worked really well for me so far! The only down side is a few times that I've used it (not always) I've gotten a really dry mouth. So that can be pretty annoying. They've never made me drowsy so far though, but I have read that that can be a side effect for some people.

Forbidden Journey ride was one of the worst ones for me. LOVE it, but I went on it twice in a row and I had to sit and not go on any rides for a good hour after (this was before I started using the patch). I think it's a combination of the motion & visual part, for that ride especially.

Thanks everyone...we have season passes to am amusement park near us so maybe hubby can try a couple different things before we head to florida.

That's probably the thing with motion sickness......you have to try and see how you personally are, or your DH.

I hope he gets to ride the things he wants.

I got prescription patch from my doctor and it worked for me. I was there last week and had no problem with any of the rides.

I get mild motion sickness. One non-medicine thing that can help is sucking on something sour.

I'd imagine this wouldn't put a dent in hard-core motion sickness (and I haven't been to Universal yet, so I don't really know how bad the rides are), but it helps with mild issues.

I use the patch--it works like a dream. Literally not a hint of nausea, even on Forbidden Journey, after which I nearly threw up the first time i rode it (without the patch). I get the dry mouth and blurry vision side effects, but they go away promptly after taking it off AND they are mostly just an annoyance. I'd rather deal with them and get to ride what I want.

Did you have any side effects from the patch
No I did not. I put the patch on day before I got on the plane and had no problem being air sick. I did take off my patch day before I got on the plane to come home and I felt little air sick. I thought since I was done with all the rides at the parks so I would be okay on airplane. I should have put new ones on. You are suppose to change the patch every 3 days.

I have used patch on my 2 cruises before and they are great. On my first cruise I didn't know and got really sick but someone gave me one on the ship and it worked wonders.

I take Bonine, but I take starting the day before I am going to need it and then I take it twice a day- once in the morning, and once at night each day. It works for almost all rides. It didn't help me with Dragon Challenge. I came of of that feeling woozy! But I was fine on FJ each time I rode. My hubby takes Meclezine. He tried Bonine and got dizzy from it, but the Melamine worked great. I know one of the generic of the other, but they affected him differently. I would also suggest trying out different rides at your local amusement Park. That is what I did to test out how well the Bonine worked for me. Good luck!

Oh, I also have ginger candy that helps with nausea. Sometimes I push it too much and get queezy. The ginger candy settles me stomach almost immediately.

Your name is Alice, you use "777" and you get motion sickness (and use the patch for it). Are you sure you're not me? You could be me! :)

The scopolamine patch and Bonine have been my go tos for a while. Dry mouth is the biggest side effect of the patch for me but I figure that just encourages me to drink more water. On longer cruises I get a little blurry towards the end but it is still worth it to me to feel human. I can get away with just Bonine on a plane, mountain roads, ski lifts, etc. but need the patch for cruises and theme parks. The side effects go away quickly after you remove the patch. I was thrilled to find something that allowed me to enjoy these things again.

Is ginger candy sold anywhere at the parks or resorts? I got some Meclezine from doc. Would it be to much to take a ginger tablet and meclezine or meclezine and dramimine? I was thinking of taking one the night before and then one the morning we go to parks.

In canada I found sound gravol lozengers that also have ginger In them as well as pills with ginger...my husband tried the pills for roller coasters and said he was ok for the day.

I have tried all suggestions mentioned in this thread and then some. I have severe motion sensitivity. I get dizzy when I cut the lawn and have to circle a tree (literally). I can drive, but can not be a passenger without get nauseated.

For me, the meclizine (a.k.a. Bonine and non-drowsy Dramamine) best bang for the buck. It does make me drowsy. I take at night 2-3 days before a trip. I think this allows acclimatization of the drowsy side effect at the same time allowing the motion-sickness prevention to build up. I take 1/2 to 1 pill each night of the trip, depending on the type of rides for the next day. I still can not ride any simulators or spinning rides, but do fine on coasters, ToT etc.

The scopolamine patch also worked well for me but the inconvenience and cost of a Rx made it less desirable. Also, I did notice a slight amnesic effect. Nothing extreme. Just a lack of total recollection of the day's events. When I used the patch on a cruise, I didn't have vivid memories of much of the trip.

All the other stuff, is just gimmicky. Sea bands are worthless if you have any real level of motion sickness.
Ginger does not prevent motion sickness, but rather can reduce the nauseated feeling once you have it. It's a treatment, not preventative.
