What did everyone else think of the Castaway Cay Club Cocktail Party?

Thats it! I KNEW something was off for the AP show in October! We cruise for the first time in Sept of 98, and had not been back til this October. So our memory was not as fresh. I knew the show didnt seem as good as the first time we saw it, and I kept waiting for them to come out with the dessert and sparklers! You 2 have confirmed officially that I AM NOT crazy :teeth:

Your not crazy dzneprincess, don't you remember the special plates and the "paint your own sundae's"? they still use the plates for some deserts and I saw one in the silent auction on this last cruise.

YES paint your own sundaes!!!!!! I remember, it's all coming back to me now! LOL OK OK that show was MUCH better than what we saw on our Halloween cruise this year. Do you know why they changed it?

On our last night in AP the chefs came out with some flaming desert. I thought that it was baked Alaska but I could be wrong. That was just in November.

Yes they did this in October also, but what I remember was sparklers and the fiber optic paintbrushes, as well as the paint your own sundae. The kids really loved that.

If it was the last nite that was probably the Master Chef's menu, all the resteraunts get the baked alaska that nite. It's not the same show they used to put on in Animator's Palate though...

on the other hand, the captain's cocktail party for concierge guests was so empty it was embarrassing....
at most 10 people showed up on our cruise (and we were 3 of the 10)...
and as you said, a free cocktail is a free cocktail....
and the appetizers were great...
but even better, we really did have a chance to talk with the captain and some of the other crew who were nicer than nice....
but it was so embarrassing that so few of those who could come actually took the time to come....
it seemed almost rude to me....

as for the cc cocktail party....i guess i'll have a chance to take part on our next cruise in the summer..

I agree the CC party is not what it used to be, but I have to disagree with wanting the paint your own dessert back. It was not a Sundae....it was some form of grey mass on a plate. To us it looked awful. It was a cool concept, but they needed a better dessert to paint. We were on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic and that was what was served. Maybe they changed the paint your own dessert item later, but that first one was horrible.

I remeber the sparklers, that was cool, and I recall a desert I think it was cheesecake that came on a pallet plate with differend sauces in the wells, like strawberry, pineapple etc, that was cute.

Ann, your post stirred memories...are you referring to the pre-plated dessert they used to have? I seem to remember that everyone got the same thing, and it was a little variety sampler on the old AP plates.
It was cool because the appetizer was served on a black and white version of the plate, and the dessert was served on the same plate but a color version.

yes !! remember how the meal would add color (as the room did) thoughtout the experience?

The first dessert in Animator's was the paint your own sundae ... then they went to the sampler plate with four desserts ... now it is just order off the menu like every other restaurant. I miss the uniqueness that they had before.

Sometimes change is not good.
