What day is the least busy at a DMV?

Anyone know?

I HATE the DMV, but I have to renew my license this week (by Friday). In CA we did it all by mail, but here you have to GO IN!

UGH!

Can you schedule an appointment? That is a sure fire way to avoid the long lines...I dont think any day is not busy...Best bet, get there REAL early..

I don't know about day, but everyone should avoid the beginning of the month. I have an "in" at a local DMV, and avoid the line, but she can't get me in the first week of the month.

How are renewals handled in your state. Here you have up to 10 days after your tabs expire to renew so the worst day to go in is the 10th of the month :lmao:. We have license centers in most towns and they are rarely busy. I think the worst line I have had to stand in was about 5 people-but that was the day I took DS18 for his permit-and so did a lot of other parents :lmao:. I would not want to go to the DMV in Minneapolis or St. Paul because they have lines like you are talking about.

The DMV told us that Fridays are the worst. They couldn't tell us what was a better day.

The end of the month and the beginning of the month are usually the worst around here.

We have a newspaper columnest that suggests you just go to your closest DMV one hour before openeing. Bring a lawnchair and a book. When it opens you are basically first in line. Sure you waited an hour... but it was only an hour...

And it seems to me Fridays would be bad (hurrying in to stay legal over the weekend... last minute type people) And Mondays would be bad (all those last minute people that didn't go on Friday and are already past due)

I googled this once and I think it was Wednesday morning. If you can't make it then, then try at least a Tuesday or Thursday (never Monday or Friday) and between opening until like 11:30am and about 1pm or after (avoid lunch hour). And don't forget cash, I made that mistake last time.

Here in CT, the best days to go are on Wed and Fri. As long as it's not a holiday week, then avoid Friday. Morning is the best time to go, regardless of the day.

Our DMV in CT is closed on Monday, so Tuesday is busy. Wed is usually sort of slow (relativiely speaking). Thursday tends to be very busy, esp. in the afternoon because they stay open late. Friday, not so bad. Saturday gets crazy. If it is a holiday weekend with Monday being the holiday, they close Sat. so Friday is miserable to be there.

Is there an alternative to actually going to DMV to renew your license? Here in CT there are a couple of license renewal offices (one is in a mall) where renewing your license is the ONLY thing you can do, and it is fairly quick and painless. You can also go to AAA and get it done there (not sure if you need to be a AAA member or not), and there is a license renewal bus that drives around and processes renewals. Any of those options is MUCH better than going to DMV.

Apparently here in the good 'ole NC, one must go in to a regular DMV. So ridiculous if you ask me, but we haven't any other choice.

There are no "renewal only" places and it is too late to get an appt. (yes, I know, my fault.)

My neighbor went to the DMV 45 min. away in boonesville to avoid the wait. I may do that. Our local DMV is 30 min. away anyway, in a different direction.

I will aim for tomorrow. I really don't want to wake my kids up at 6am. My older two can stay home alone, but I will not leave them asleep in the house after so many house fire scares in this area. If I wake them at 6am there is no telling if they will stay awake when I leave.

I will take the youngest with me.

We only have to take the eye/vision test but we do have to go in.

I have to renew for the first time this year. My neighbor said that you also have o be able to identify road signs. Is that just our county? DMV usually not buys here--combine a beach vacation with license renewal-would that work for you?:lmao:

You can't do an online renewal? We have had that option for years now, you keep the same picture which is kind of freaky to me. I've had the same picture for 12 years, and could have the same picture for many more. You only have to go in if you move or are a senior citizen and need additional testing. I'd would go in on a Tuesday mid month.

No, as stated in my OP, that is not an option here.

Yes, you do. I have done the practice test online and got 100% so I am not too concerned about that.

Beach vacation before this Friday???? No. Unfortunately.

Why did I wait until the last possible week to do it? Um, procrastination.....I HATE the DMV.

Since you are planning on going tomorrow morning, does it make sense to call the two DMV offices today to ask when they suggest you arrive, based upon their normal traffic flow? Maybe someone at those offices will try to give you some help.

I can try. Typically there is noone answering,it is a machine.

The best day to go is the day it rains. Last time I made an appt. which is far better, but it's usually 2 months out.

Can you try the Monroe office? It's supposed to have the shortest lines. GL!!!

Once in California I went in around 3 pm - the place was empty. Can you do something like that? Everyone wants to go in the morning or at lunch - mid-afternoon seems like it wouldn't be popular.
