What daily task do you consider to be a waste of time

OP, before I even read your response I was thinking the same thing - making the bed every morning.

I had to do that when I lived at home with my parents, but in my own home I rarely ever make the bed unless we're having overnight company. But day to day it never gets made. Throw the covers up and that's about it. Nobody but us sees the bedroom anyway, and if unexpected company drops in I just shut the door.

Funny though, I do make the bed almost every day in our camper. I guess it's because when anyone walks in the door if they look to their right they can see the bedroom so I do like the bed made up in there.

Another chore that I feel is a waste of time is washing the windows outside. You get them all clean, then it rains and gets them dirty again. Oh, but I guess that really doesn't qualify for your question, since it's not really a daily chore. Never mind then. :)

Another vote for making the bed. What's the point? I don't look at the bed at all during the day, and nobody sees it but me.

It's not a daily task, but there's also not much point in washing my car since I live on a gravel road and it never stays clean for more than a few minutes.

You're asking what tasks we feel are a waste of time, not what we hate to do, right? Well, I find driving to work to be a waste of time. I have a laptop and every connection in the world to meet and communicate virtually with other people. Plus, the company is trying to squeeze everyone into tinier spaces in order to save money. I no longer see the reason why I should drive to an office. I can do everything from home in my slippers, saving the company money on my space and lots and lots of gas.

So there is my meaningless task that I do anyway and don't even know why.

I hate putting away the clean dishes after washing up. I feel like because I washed them, my work here is done :rotfl:

Putting the recycling out always bugs me - I never remember until it's late and dark :headache:

Otherwise I really hate cleaning my teeth. Yes I know it's important, flossing, mouthwash yaddah - but that's a DULL five minutes three times a day :rotfl:

I think getting the car washed - just had it washed yesterday and of course it's going to rain today. I don't do it daily, but pretty frequently and really what is the purpose?

For me it is making the bed. I just don't get it. Why do you need to do it?

I totally agree. My partner and I have a deal, I do the dishes if she does the bed, I hate it THAT much.

I agree about the bed - although I do think it makes everything nicer when it is made.

The thing with the bed bugs and making your bed - I think if the bedding is aired out before it is made maybe that will help? My grandmother, and everyone else her age, in Germany, always hung her duvet out the window while they were eating breakfast and then would make the bed after the dishes were done. So the bedding always smelled fresh. I don't hang it out the window, but I do open the window further and let it all air before I make the bed.

My useless chore is dusting - it is so dry and static-y here, plus two dogs, that it all looks dusty again a half an hour later, so why bother. I do it every couple of days or so and then polish the furniture once a week.

Not a "task", but talking on the telephone.. Major, major waste of time.. :headache:

My DD (her DH, or my DGD) will call and check in with me once a day up here at the lake to make sure I'm okay - which is fine - but other than that, I have no desire to chit chat on the phone..

I don't make my bed unless I change the sheets.

I don't fold my underwear--it all lays flat in my underwear drawer.

I don't fold my socks. I just take the two tope ends and flip one end over the other so they stay together in my drawer.

Doing any of those three things would seem like a waste of time to me.

It is driving to work for me as well. We are a half-hour (8.5 miles) from work. My husband and I carpool, but even so, it is such a waste of time, gas, and money.

We live so far away from work because I used to work on the West Side. Now, we both work in the same city and it is just silly.

We are planning to move in February with any luck.

I agree that making the bed is a gigantic waste of time. It doesn't do anything. All you have to do is untangle the covers a little before you go to sleep.

Washing dishes. While it's obviously a necessary evil, I still feel like it's the biggest waste of time. I'm to the point where I'd rather buy new dishes every day than wash them. :upsidedow

Hanging up towels.

I would rather wash towels after each shower than hang them up to dry after each shower.

We are a household that washes towels only a couple times a week, so if they aren't hung, they get stinky and stay damp.

My DH likes to leave his on the floor of the bedroom, or in the hallway, or in the living room, or...

It is such a useless task, but it saves us $$$ on gas, water and electricity, so...
