What CROCS did for me!!

<<<Jen that is EXACTLY how they were on me. My foot swam in the meduim beach and my toe hit the end of the small. I got the medium nile and they are perfect. There is a bit of extra room at the heel of my foot, but not so much it looks strange.>>>

After reading this thread, I ran out to a store in our mall that carries these shoes. I tried on the only style they carried, which was the beach. I wear a 9 - 10 in shoes. With the M, my toes touched the end of the shoe, which made me insane. With the L, the other problem I have with the Ms just got worse.

Both sizes I tried on were huge around my foot. I could slip my hand in over the top of my foot all the way around. I do not have narrow feet by any means, but they were huge in that way.

Is this what ya'll are talking about with the fit of the CROCS, and the difference between the Nile and Beach? Does anyone else have this problem with them being big? I thought I would try and find the sandals to see if that was the same in both shoes?

Anybody have any opinions re: my problem? I really want to love these shoes!

(I am a Teva, Chaco, Born, Keen and Clark owner/lover...these should fit right in!)

Well, I did, lol! I had an appt with my podiatrist this morning and when I walked in his assistant said "Oh no, don't let him see you in those shoes!!!". I was really surprised so I asked her what she meant, she said that he has been seeing so many people in them and he said they are not good for your feet. I figured I'd ask him.

Well, he came in and we chatted since we know each other "outside" of his business, I know his wife pretty well. He happened to glance over at my shoes since we were talking about how I am getting back into running and he said, "Oh ShXt! Don't ever walk back in here with those on again!". I was really surprised and he said that they are like the "jelly" shoes of the 80's all over again. No support and no appropriate for most people, especially those with foot/back issues.

I told him about the Crocs website and all the testimonials I read here and there and he said that he stands by his opinion. He said that this type of shoe has been around in one form or another (sold mostly by uniform supply places where people wear them for the ED or OR) and he thinks they are really a poor choice in footwear and offer little to no support.

Anyway--I plan on wearing them (my Payless knock-offs) around the house anyway since they are pretty comfortable but the Crocs went back to the store. I tried them on again at home and they are too big, the smaller size was too small and they don't fit me as well as the cheapie version, IMO.

Wondering if anyone else has ventured out to get an expert's opinion on the shoes and their faults/benefits?

Yep, me, too! I have only the Beach and it looks like I am wearing my "daddy's shoes". However, they don't feel that way. They really are comfortable. I, too, had issues with my toe touching the top. Yuck! That's why I got a little bit bigger size.

Sometimes my feet sweat (very unknown for my feet to do!), but for the most part, I love them. They look hideous, but they sure feel nice! :flower:

Isn't that weird? My friend is a chiropractor and he told me they were great for my back (I have a lower back problem) and said he actually had a pair.

Either way....I love my Crocs and can't wait to try them out in the parks. WooHoo!

I agree to check with your doctor, but that being said... I dont doubt that doctors dismiss them on sight! What about Birkenstocs? The one doctor friend I talked to compared the base of the crocs to the mats that people stand on instead of the concrete floor (think grocery store cashiers) in that respect, they offer support, because of the resin (I forget what the acronym is) it does mold to your feet, something about your body heat...

and for me, I cant walk in my shoes WITH support due to pain, I can with these... but what works for me, whats "good" for me, is not for everyone - always good advice, check with your doctor.

Aggie,

I went to Stonebriar and tried on a pair, but they only had the Beach. I am going to REI to see if they have the Caymans or the Nile.

A teacher at my DDs school has a pair and loves them, but didnt' have the same big-ness problem that I had when trying them on.

The Caymans say that they are thinner. Would love to find some.

Would love to hear more about what doctors think....

I believe Shiela (who has a shop at the southeast corner of Beltline and Preston) may have some. Here telephone number is 469-231-4593. I am going to visit her next week -- she just got more Crocs in! Good luck!

Mary Poppins, I just saw your question, it seemed to have gotten lost in the traffic!!

If I remember you asked about shin splits, etc. all I can say is its worth a try! What shoes are you wearing? I get shin splints when I run, or walk alot, but I havent had too many problems lately, right now its because of the bone spur/plantar fischa thingy... so I havent been able to walk...

Also, keep in mind, everyone has different experiences. Everyone has noticed different fits, within styles, and with different styles. So its not much help. I dont know if the payless is the same quality (I'm not a chemist) but it may be worth a try... and for me, and my pain $30 was a good. . . no GREAT investment... but again, it worked for me... and I had to run walk to church one night when the car battery was dead, no problems!!

THanks Aggie!

I just got off the phone with her. She doesn't have any Caymans, but she does have all styles and colors of Beach, so I will stop in next week. Thanks for the tip!

And for those of you who have Crocs...how are they after riding Splash Mountain? Are they icky feeling when they are wet? Do they slide when they are wet? I dont' have that problem with my Chacos, but do with my Tevas, and that goes into shoe decision making at the parks.

Re Crocs at Splash Mountain... (just wait till Dchef pops in!!)

Today was a very very wet and rainy day, and when I picked dd up at school, I was up the stairs, down the hall, grabbed a kid or two who slipped, but I stuck - YEAH! no slipping...

and as for my wet feet, not a problem, and I do know what you mean about Tevas, dh loves his chacos, he wants me in them, but they tend to hurt my feet in the arch, not my crocs!! :cool1:

I haven't read all the new post here yet (there are many since this morning) But of course I zoomed right in on this one. Let me just give you a bit of my history--2 physical therapist, 2 podiatrist and 1 surgeon later:
In October I threw my back out for the 3rd time in 4 years--finally had an MRI done and what they found was scary--Osteoarthritis, Anular tear in a disc and some cyst. Through much PT and going to a surgeon I was told a lot of exercise would be the best thing now to keep from having surgery. I was worried because walking has always been a challenge. I've been a Chef in the restaurant buisness for years and have feet problems as a result of it. These are the best shoes that I have EVER worn and per doctors advice...I will continue to wear them--now with that said, everyones feet are different and what might be going on with yours may not warrant these shoes. To say they are like jellies of the 80 is kinda and insult to those of us who know our feet quite intimatly. If I tried to walk for 10 days at WDW in Jellies, I believe I would be in the midst of some sort of amputation by now.
I know your doctor means well--but I feel maybe he hasn't worn them or done the research to find out for himself--Jellies were a fad--Crocs are comfortable shoes and how can any doctor argue with that!!
I live in Boulder--a bit aggresive and holistic and maybe not well recieve in some area's of the country for our "farout" lifestyle, but one thing that is for sure about this place is people really are in touch with their bodies...it could be one of the most active communities in the country with runners, and marathon runners, climbers and biking and people are wearing them everywhere.
My podiatrist has seen me in pain and just plain numb from trying to find the right shoe, finally we are in agreement as to what I should be wearing. I say do what is best for you and use the advice to make your own decission. Wear them and if you find your foot is worse off in Crocs them don't, but ifyou find your feet feel fantastic and you can wear them without the pain of most shoes, then wear them and send some to your doctor! :teeth:
The way I see it is my feet can't possibly get worse than they are.
Sorry so long people-- I just had to respond to the doctor--and the power they have over our minds.

Good luck on whatever you decide--I hope you have happy feet in WDW :wave2: And thanks for the info from the Doctor...It is good to hear what they have to say either way.

I don't know about anyone else but when my Crocs got wet at the park, they dried almost instantly it seems. I odn't rememeber them being at all uncomfortable to walk in.
They were originally invented for thr boating world, so I would imagine they would be "sturdy/not slippery when wet"...Just my thought. I got paint on them the other night and washed them off and put an armour all wipe on them and they are good as new now!

Dchef: I haven't read all the new post here yet (there are many since this morning)

and who's fault is that?? :rotfl2:

Or, are you trying to say YOU have a life?? :rotfl:

 Dchef!!

Good lord, I can't keep up with this site!
Been reading the podiatrist statements and all, and I'm going to my own podiatrist in a month or two, I'll risk asking him about crocs (I'm not shy). I go back and forth on the comfort level of these shoes...seems I can't wear ANY shoe for more than a day or two and my dogs start barking at me. Crocs are no different. I'll have to alternate the Crocs and New Balance at WDW when I go.
Oh, yeah, eeyore, I did return the "butter" crocs...shoulda grabbed 'em while you coulda.

I wanted to add that I'm not trying to bash Crocs or something like that at all. I like my cheapie version and plan to wear them. I didn't think to ask my podi if he had tried them himself, I just thought his reaction to be pretty severe for a usually calm guy-I've never heard him swear in the 12+ years I've known him so I got a chuckle out of his remarks.

I also don't think he is the "be-all, end-all" type of person I'd get my info from. I also have lots of back/foot issues and feel that I definitely know my body better than anyone else, especially at this point.

I guess I wanted to post what he said to see if anyone else had heard this type of remark. No shoe is going to work for everyone--I tried Birkies a few times over the past 15 years and could never find a pair that was "right" for me-too much arch pain.

Glad to see that many are enjoying their shoes! :)

I was on the treadmill for 70 minutes yesterday morning.. when to work wearing my crocs.. stood on my feet most of the day... came home took my crocs off. Then I started to walk around the house and my feet started to hurt. Guess what i did? You got it.. I put those crocs right back on. They feel soooo good, and I normally hate shoes.

You can wear crocs with or without socks. I like how mine feel even better without. If you wear them with socks and shorts I think it would look better with socks that only come up to your heel not your ankle. I got my crocs for our June trip. They are so great, but the stores can hardly keep them in stock. They make them for kids starting with size 13, but I can'tfind them at the store. I'll have to order a pair online for my 7 year old. :cool1:
