I would say that anything can be forgiven if the victim is willing and the perpetrator is truly remorseful. It is between them to determine such.

ETA: That has nothing to do with a societal punishment or the criminal justice system - those operate regardless of "forgiveness" of any kind.

Yes, the consequences are what they are; forgiveness is a state of mind and heart. And IMO, forgiveness is the prerogative of the victim; most crimes are not victimless and the rest of us, suffering no ill-effects, don't really have the right to forgive on behalf of those who have.

I realize that. But for those who love inspite of what was done they need to be held accountable. My son has done unspeakable things and as much as I love and forgive him he has to be held accountable
