Okay this is the sight I woke up to today-

http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4084831&a=31885042&f=

With the Passanger side door window completely shattered (and no other windows touched)

We have no idea how this couldve happened and so I'm turning to ya'll for ideas...

There were 2 other cars within feet of mine and neither were damaged (nor as we can tell any others from the street)

I was parked next to the fence

The driver side door's window was 3/4 of the way down (so that kinda kills the to get access idea...)

Nothing taken from the car or moved around in the car nor anything that couldve done the damage was found in the car

So we are stumped? Any ideas?

Now I gotta hope the weather stays nice until I can find a replacement window for a 1981 Pontaic Grand Prix :P

Because the shattered window glass is on the INSIDE of the car, I would think it came from a "hit" or "punch" from the outside of the car.
Maybe the drivers window that was down was not noticed and someone wanted to break into the car and not be seen as easily.
I would also rule out heat as causing the window to break, since the other window was down there was no heat build up in the car.

There are some window companies that will come right to your house to repair the window. Try www.safelite.com

something(like a baseball or rock) or someone hit the window. i had a baseball hit my window and it was completley shattered just like that.

Maybe a baseball, which is missing because some kids grabbed it and ran.

Maybe a bird flew into it? It would have to be a big enough bird that it's going to cause that much damage and not get too hurt so it can fly away on its own.

Could have been a ball, fist, part of someone's body, or maybe a BB....

What about a rock kicked up by a lawn mower? I did that to our then 3 day old Honda Pilot a couple of years ago. I was practically bawling after that one!

CSI Miranda to the rescue!!!!! :rotfl: In my opinion, it looks like a smaller object because of the size of the fragments in the car. The impact definitely came from the outside because of the glass on the inside. The shatter pattern seems to be consistent with the already mentioned BB or rock.

I love that CSI talk lol. Miranda you rock !!! :cool1:

We once had a small hawk fly into one of our house windows and shatter the glass. It was dazed, but flew away.

that happened to our back window once from a rock while mowing

That was what I was going to say.
There's also fabric and stuffing missing on the armrest facing the window. There is glass on the outside as well as in. Nothing appears to be stolen, and as you said the driver's window was down. It looks like an accident. Maybe a rock kicked up by a lawn mower, or a bb, as said above.

do you live around any kids that may have been partying a little too hard last night?

This happend to a woman I work with like 2 months ago. Nothing stolen from the car, but glass all over the inside. This was in our parking lot at work, so no kids or anything around. THe guy from the wondow replacement place told her it's common when it's really hot out for windows to shatter in cars. He recommended that you always keep one window open a tiny bit when the car is in direct sunlight to prevent this from happening. Could that be it???

Ooops...never mind I missed the fact that your other window was down... :confused3

Probably just some random kids out "having fun"....by causing trouble! Sorry that happend to you!

As for the small fragments, that's because it's "auto glass" or safety glass.
Glass in the side and rear windows of autos is tempered glass.....and when it breaks, it breaks into small, pebble-sized pieces with no sharp edges. This reduces cuts & scrapes if you're in an accident. (As for windshields, they're laminated glass....another type of safety glass...but it resists falling out of the frame when broken....and can also help keep you inside the car during an accident since it has some "give" to it.)
