What company(ies) could you *never* work for?

I could never work for any cigarette company, any butcher shop-cant stand the smell, look taste of meat!...and I couldn't work for any car sales place-I think car salesmen are the sleezyest people there are!

Not all car salesmen are sleezy. I am an HR Mgr for a car dealership. Pay plans for both mgrs and salespeople are tied to the surveys you receive after purchasing a new car. Also we have been in business for decades. It simply wouldn't be good business to screw a customer. We have many repeat customers. At a reputable dealership, everything is explained beforehand and you can ask any question you want. I will agree that some salespeople use underhanded methods. The key is to research before purchasing and when you don't want something say no.

I worked at a movie theatre for 14 months making $5.50. I just recently got a whopping raise of $.50. I have NO benefits. The job conditions suck. It's annoying to work there. Where were all the concerned citizens sticking up for me??? As far as I'm concerned, Walmart workers have it pretty dang good.

I hear you! I worked as a server for years - 40+ hour work weeks, long hours, no breaks, no vacation, no insurance... I didnt see anyone causing a stink for the many of us whom were also paid a whopping $2.60 / hr! (yes, we made tips....)

Im actually NOT against the tobacco companies ... so it always kind of amuses me when I see the anti's and wonder if they know how much these companies own.

A Day care. I just do not have the patience to deal with a bunch of little kids. I think the ones that do are truly wonderful. But I just could not handle it.

A company whose business model contributes only to their own bottom line and to heck with the rest of the economy. Yes, we live in a capitalist country, but I don't have to like it. I currently work for a company that many find distasteful, but I get treated well and they offer assistance to those who cannot afford their service.

Companies who *require* donations to the United Way or any other charity - even if it's just a dollar, it's the prinicple.

A company that actively supports one of the few causes I abhor. I do not need my toil to be furthering an organization that I am completely against.

No, I mean just that - I don't have to like the fact that the US is a capitalist country. This is not the thread for a debate about this. I just think that we (individuals, the government, and companies that benefit from the US marketplace) should try to look out for others - at least for the basics.

My very first "real" job out of college did this. I had just been working for a couple of months, when they did their big "United Way fund drive". I was making just enought to pay my bills at the time, with not much left over. I "declined" on the slip they sent out. Well, the VP of HR came down to "talk" to me. The company really wanted 100% participation, and couldn't I please find it "in me" to give even a few dollars...... I was a lot more "innocent" than I am now, so I did sign up. To this day, I think it was a really "dirty" thing to do to an employee......

You'd be surprised how many companies put the squeeze on the employees for this. DH's past employer used to review the "private" enrollment forms. Based on the level of management you were in would dictate what amount you were expected to give. They had charts and everything. If it wasn't enough, you were talked to. Same goes for the political lobbyiest funds they supported. Upper management was expected to give - and it wasn't a small amount, either.

BUt what can you do about it? there is no possible way to stay away from all of those companies = you'd certanily starve & go CRAZY if you tried!

I know that HomeGoods tried to do that to me to. I just told management unless they won't give me 40 hours a week and rise so I can give to the United Way to shut up talking to me.

I will never work for the TJ Maxx Inc, HomeGoods, Marshell's, A.J. Wrights they do not belive in promting from within. They do not believe in paying for experince. They start out everyone at 5.50 hour. They wonder why they can't keep nobody.

I soon I found another job I leaveing HomeGoods for good. I am not going back.
