What color lights do you put on your tree??

Hubby likes the white lights, but the kids like the colored. So, we have the white icicle lights on the house, but colored (not blinking) on the tree. We have the traditional tree that we remember as kids. Colored lights, tinsel icicles, and we add new, special ornaments every year! The year we were celebrating DH and DS's birthdays at Disney, so we bought one of the cute Mickey birthday ornaments! I also buy a year ornament each time we visit the mouse! So far I have 2006, 2009, 2010 and hope to have many more!! :)

I've been doing a red and gold tree the past few years. Red and gold lights and red and gold ball ornaments.

I do white lights on the big tree in the living room, and in the garland on the staircase.

Otherwise our tree is what I refer to as a "family tree". Almost all of our ornaments are things that are meaningful in some way to our family - either they were passed down in the family from generation to generation, or my daughter or my nephews made them, or we picked them up on a trip or some other adventure. We love putting the tree up and reliving the story behind every ornament. It may not the the most sophisticated looking tree when all is said and done, but it's always the most beautiful one I know

We do multi-colored and our tree had no theme. It's filled will all different kinds of ornaments, homemade, baby's first Christmas, Disney, antique and so on. I love it!! :)

Same here. And I let my kids do the decorating at their level but I do rearrange and they don't notice. My daughter actually looked at the tree the next day (after I had rearranged the ornaments) and said "Hey we did a pretty good job!":rotfl:

I like white lights outside though but we don't really have anything to put them on. I hang light-up decorations in the window and put a light-up snowman outside.

I am ready to get some new christmas decorations and thinking of decorating the tree this year in silver and blue balls. The last couple years I did multi color lights and balls.

So what do you decorate your tree with? White or multi color lights? Do you have a theme?

Regular multi-colored. Not LED yet... when these current lights die I'll probably switch.

Plain white small lights for our decorating. Outside we put icicle lights on the house and inside the ones on the tree are small and sometimes they blink but sometimes they don't. Just depends on what we decide to go with that day. We have some traditional decorations but we usually just use the kids' decorations instead, each year the kids get a new ornament, that means they have 18 (at least) by the time they leave home, lately it's been neat to just have the girls put those decorations on the tree by themselves. :)

I'm a small white light with red and gold ornaments person. I use red and gold ribbon for the tree instead of the traditional garland and either a gold trimmed angel or white/gold star for the topper.

Pink and white lights usually and I change the theme every year! This year I did my Disney tree in the dining room. It is about a 9 ft. tree. I used my magenta with purple velvet ribbon and my Tink with fiber optic wings on top!

I did do a second tree this year in the living room. It is an artificial tree with white lights. I have had this chocolate brown burn out velvet ribbon I had been dying to use for the last couple of years!:rotfl: I did that tree all in copper-brown, light pink, ice blue, and a little silver.

Four strings of rice lights. Two red, two white. Looks a bit like a candy cane. We really like the slow and random fade effects, too.

I prefer white lights but dh doesn't so I left it up to him when we bought our artificial tree several years back. No pre-lit white lights for him! So now he manually strings blue lights on the inside of the tree and then multi-colored blinking lights on the outside of the tree. The kids usually hang the ornaments and we don't use half the ones I've collected over the years. I have been afraid to use my disney ornaments because my cat climbs in my tree but one day I hope to have a second prelit tree for just my disney ornaments and the other collectibles MIL gave me.

Wow, this thread got bumped from a long time ago. ;)

But to answer the original question...
White lights on the formal living room tree
Colored lights on the fun family room tree

Inside trees have multicolored lights on them.

Outside solid lights in both color and white (dripping icicles).

So, does anyone else find white lights to be too bright?

I love the look of white lights, but I don't use them anymore. They just hurt my eyes. We have a few homes in the neighborhood that I can't drive by at night when their lights are up. It doesn't seem to bother me on inside lights though. Maybe because the lights are smaller or the ornaments, etc help cover some of the lights. I don't know.

We put up 2 trees. Our "Disney" tree is in the kids play room & has colored lights. All the decorations are Disney, from the Parks, or represent a Disney movie. The main tree in the living room has white lights & more traditional decorations.

It depends on the year for me. It has usually been clear lights on the big living room tree. I have a pre-lit clear light tree. I also have a tree that I have to put the lights on myself. For the past few years I have been going clear... next year I think I am going to use multi.

On the smaller dining room and bedroom trees, again one is pre-lit clear, and the other I use multi.

I have been afraid to use my disney ornaments because my cat climbs in my tree but one day I hope to have a second prelit tree for just my disney ornaments and the other collectibles MIL gave me.

I do know how that can be...I have four indoor cats!:goodvibes They are pretty good now! They don't really bother it anymore, but they do like to lay under it!:rotfl: I do put all the Radkos and the really expensive ones up a little higher!

We have had small white lights the last five years but my kids have requested for multicolored lights next year. We might just get a second tree next year.
