What color is this dress?!

When I first saw it I saw white and gold. My husband saw black and blue, I couldn't understand it. So I kept looking and now I can only see black and blue too!! Totally weird!!!

Some friends posted this on FB. Looking at the same picture the color first time was white and gold. Went back later to same post and the picture was blue and black. So I don't know what the science is behind it but the color of the dress in reality is really black and blue. Honestly it is the ugliest dress I have seen no matter what the color is haha.

I'm amused that anyone has wasted more than 60 seconds of their life paying attention to this drivel.

Friendships have broken up, marriages are crumbling, relationships are being destroyed.

Buzzfeed has a good satire....can't link it because of DIS-unfriendly language.

Loved buzzfeed take on it. i couldn't stop laughing

I can see people clamoring to buy copies of this hideous dress just because of all the craziness surrounding it. It would make a good Halloween costume, at least. Maybe a custom made one where one half is white and gold and the other half is black and blue (or front is one color combo and the back is the other).

Oops, dang now I gave away my million dollar idea!

Blake Griffin had a great tweet about it today

"Forget the dress guys... What color am I?"

I saw one article on this with a poll and 70% see white and gold.

Honestly, it's fairly mind boggling to me. It looks undoubtedly blue and black to me. (Which are the colors of the actual dress.) it just seems crazy that less than 1/3 of people see this the way it actually is. Makes me wonder if this happens all the time, but we just have no way of knowing that others are seeing things differently.
I understand the phenomenon, but it really seems nearly impossible to me that anyone could perceive that photo as a white and gold dress.

We did an experiment in my physiological psych class about color perception and everyone sees colors a bit differently :) It's pretty cool how color vary between people!

I saw this image set in an article, but even that I still can't see white and gold.

The manipulated image on the left still looks blue and black to me. The colors are slightly washed out, but still without any doubt blue and black.

My DBIL sees every picture as blue/black, but I see 3 different colors!

That would be a hilarious costume! Love it!

Well I"ll spend another 60 seconds on it. I opened the article, the dress at the top looks white and gold, the dress at the bottom looks
blue and black. On Facebook it changes for me every couple of times I look at it. I think it's some kind of internet hoax

I think it's pretty amazing, and worth discussing, that different people can look at the exact same picture and see something different. I've really enjoyed reading the articles that try to explain the science behind this.

Odd but I looked at the link above and for the first time saw white and gold. Then I looked at the three dresses side by side and back to the link and the dress looked blue and black again. That makes me think that it depends on what you looked at prior to looking at the dress.

I think it's kind of neat. When I first saw the dress, I thought it looked white and gold. So did my husband. But when I can look it it now I can see it as blue and black. I think the shades are just right for them to be perceived as either.
