What color are school buses?

My 2 kids and I all say yellow.

I have had this debate with my sister for years. She says yellow, I say orange. My entire family says yellow, I still say orange.

My dh used to work for the Bluebird Bus Company in Georgia as a contract senior design engineer and they call it "school bus yellow" or "chrome yellow" (yes, aka "chrome") as it is a high gloss.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Bird_Corporation) has this:

It became known officially as "National School Bus Chrome". The color was selected because black lettering on that hue was easiest to see in the semi-darkness of early morning and late afternoon. The distinctive color later became officially known as "National Glossy School Bus Yellow".

I have to back you up here, Free4Life. If someone were to ask me what color is a school bus, I guess I would say yellow just because I think that's what people have always said. But if you really look at them they're orange. Just look at that picture you posted, then look at the colors here: "YELLOW" and "ORANGE". Which color is closest? I think the orange definitely is.

Kids here call them The Big Cheese

and they are sort of the color of cheddar, which I do think of as being orange...so perhaps this is something best not dwelt on, for the longer I think about it, the more confused I get

I say yellow as well, but I can see why some would say orange. Therefore, I declare myself as a fence sitter on this issue.

Does anyone else have the bus with the flashing light on the top? I hate the flashing light! I assume it's to give high visibility for safety purposes. I swear though, we have about 5 of them that drive right by our house, starting at about 6am, and it lights up our bedroom. Drives me crazy (I counted one morning after the first bus woke me up).
