Live and learn but I'll never take Benadryl again. I have watery itchy eyes, runny nose and itchy throat so I took Benadryl thinking it would do the trick. Ack!! It not only didn't take care of any of those symptoms it made me SO drowsy!!

I will go back to my old staple......sudefed!!:D :bounce:

Is there any meds that just didn't work for you??

BTW.....My DS swears by Benadryl so I'm not knocking the stuff, just it didn't work on me!:(

Kitty it's funny how these meds. work for some people and not for others.

I can't take Sudefed! It's like drinking lots and lots of coffee. Keeps me WIDE awake. I can't sleep!

I take Benadryl for my allergies. It works great for me. Makes me a little drowsy. Not too bad.

Mattsmom, my sister would totally agree with you on the Sudefed!! She said NEVER again!!!:teeth:

(literally) awake for two days......two days of being tired but not being able to go to sleep.........the pharmacist told me what to take......when you see a pkg that says.....does not make you drowsy......stay away from it......I am now taking a walmart brand that is allergy sinus....works really really well and I can sleep.........and that is the most important thing to me.......I need to sleep

Benadryl KNOCKS me out. So before I take the medicine and when I am exposed to cats, my eyes water, swell shut and crust over, I get hives everywhere, and my nose runs.

After Benadryl, my eyes water, swell shut and crust over, I get hives everywhere, my nose runs, AND I have the added bonus of being cranky and tired! Oh yay!

Sudedfed doesn't really keep me up. Gives me the shakes though. Def feel like drinking alot of coffee, but I've never had a problem sleeping.

That's it exactly, Evil Princess!!! Had to laugh at your 2nd paragraph!!!!:teeth:

Sudafed and Benadryl are totally different medications. Benadryl is an antihistamine, and Sudafed is a decongestant. Benadryl will make you tired and flaky, and Sudafed will make you "wired for sound." I find the prescription, non-drowsy antihistamines, like Zyrtech are better than Benadry. by the way, you can take sudafed along with Benadryl or any other anithistamine (unless it has a decongestant component, like Claritin-D).

I'll never use Benadryl again either. Made me drowsy but also made my mind a bit loopy. I ended up sleepy but afraid to close my eyes LOL.

I'm not sure if it's for allergies (I've seen it advertised as such) but I was given Clarinex for a head cold and I got every bad side effect known to man. When I actually got allergies, I told my doctor, and he said I couldn't have Clarinex or Claritin because the make-up of the medicine is too similar. I swear by my Flonase now -- a coule squirts and I'm fine! (Of course, moving from Missahsippee will also help!)

I took Nyquil once and only once. I'll never take it again. It knocked me right out but when I woke up I had the shakes, was sweating and my heart was beating rapidly and I felt so out of it. Never again!

I hate taking Benadryl because it always knocks me out. But, for some things, I have to occasionally take it anyway.

I don't know if it is still around, but years ago I took Actifed and it made me feel like I was orbiting the planet. Yikes.

Also, Benadryl caused bloating.

I use Clarinex now. No side effects whatsoever. Of course, my insurance just told me they won't pay for it anymore, since there are similar OTCs now (for like $1 per pill!).

Has anyone tried Allavert?
