What Children TV show did you watch

elegant and feminine is henrietta hippo, very wise and very smart is charley the owl, not so smart but lots of heart is freddy the frog-it's quite an unusual thing, the animals talk and sing with doug and emmy jo every days a different show............. :rotfl:

so many have seen this, I thought I would be the only one

oh my gosh the name Mr dress Up, sounds like it could do some physiological damage
The fact he kept most of his costumes and props in something called "The Tickle Trunk" and was the ill-defined custodian of a 5 year old boy named Casey who lived alone in a tree house in his back yard with a dog named Finnigan will really blow your mind.

And if you think that's weird, close your eyes and picture The Friendly Giant. He was a 60'ish guy with a bowl cut that dressed like Jack and the Beanstalk and played a plastic recorder while moderating the arch-rivalry between a rooster named Rusty (who lived in a drawstring bag) and a giraffe named Gerome. And I kid you not; every single child in Canada fought with their siblings over who would get to sit in the tiny, imaginary rocking chair in the show's opening scene. Sometimes you'd even cry and go tell Mom if your brother called dibs. :rotfl2:Canada was truly a wonderous place in the 70's.

Definitely New Zoo Revue. Captain Kangaroo. Then all the Children's Television Workshop shows like Sesame Street, Electric Company, and 3-2-1 Contact.

We had our local TV shows too including our franchise version of Romper Room. We had this local program called Captain Cosmic. They would have a guy in helmet with a set that looked like a cheesy version of the Star Trek bridge. They would use those segments to go in and out of various program - mostly dubbed Japanese shows like The Space Giants and Ultra Man. I also remember the same station had something they called a "live cartoon". It was some sort of projection they could use to sync with live call ins. They also had prizes for playing video games live, although it was just call in where the caller would just yell "POW" to fire some weapon at a single target waiting for ships to enter that target on an Intellivision space game. OK - it was called TV Powww and was licensed around the country.

You are not alone! New Zoo Review is one of earliest one I remember as well, along with Romper Room - oh, how much you wanted her to say your name when she looked in the mirror!

Others I watched that folks already mentioned:
HR Puff n Stuff, Captain Kangaroo, Land of the Lost, Sesame Street, The Electric Company, 3-2-1 Contact, Schoolhouse Rock, and Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

And I'll also add:
Scooby Doo, Josie & the Pussycats, the Laff-A-Lympics, and one called Hong Kong Phooey (which I had to look up, because all I remembered was "a superhero dog that changed in a filing cabinet" - but it turns out if you type that in, Google actually knows what you're talking about!)

Anyone remember Kids Incorporated?

I do - not when I was really little, like the other shows above, but definitely one I remember seeing. The Smurfs was another from then.

Anyone remember Kids Incorporated? Not creepy, well maybe except for the extreme 80s costuming.

My sister loved that show. However, I remember being annoyed by one episode where one of the characters had to get eyeglasses. She was really bummed, but later came to decide that it wasn't so bad. At the end of the episode, she showed off all the pairs of glasses she could now use to accessorize her outfits: red frames to go with this outfit, and yellow frames to go with that outfit, etc..

As someone who's worn prescription eye glasses since she was 5, I thought this was horribly unrealistic. Nobody had more than one pair of eyeglasses, so you had to pick something neutral/boring. MAYBE your old pair would be turned into sunglasses if your prescription didn't change too drastically. I mean, seriously, aside from the places that advertise "2 complete pairs for $__" does anybody have multiple pairs of prescription eye glasses for fashion reasons, even today?

Captain Kangaroo -- watched it every morning until I graduated high school; Howdy Doody; Kookla, Fran & Ollie. I watched another one that I cannot remember the name of, but one of the characters was Midnight the Cat.

that show (on ktvu) was created by and starred bob wilkins who was well known in the bay area as the host of 'creature features'. captain cosmic was VERY popular (within a few weeks of premiering it became the #1 children's show in the bay area), and creature features frequently beat out snl in local nielsen ratings. a strong memory for creature features fans is when ktvu permitted it to run the world television premier of the now classic 'night of the living dead' (controversial stuff to be running in '72). my favorite memory is him airing 'bambi meets godzilla'

wilkins is very fondly remembered by scores of people who grew up in the sf bay area (frequently mentioned in facebook threads).
