I donate to every local organization (Church and Synagogues, PTAs, kids' sports teams, etc.) that requests a donation through my business. Last year I donated to over 400 local groups through my business (cash, gifts for chinese auctions, ads in fundraising journals, etc). It truly believe in paying it forward.
On a personal level - my husband and I donate to two groups:
The first is a scholarship fund set up to honor my friend who was killed in the World Trade Center.
And, the second is the Parent Project for Muscular Dystrophy Research. Our family has been touch by this awful disease twice. And, in an ironic twist of fate, my son's (who is named after one of my cousins who died from this disease) best friend also has this disease.
PPMD's sole purpose is to fund research. While MDA spends hundreds of millions on lots of other things - only a small portion is actually dedicated to research.
We think the MD camps are great and the support the MDA gives is fine. But - WE NEED A CURE!!!
So - if you're ever tempted to give to MDA, I please ask you to look into the Parent Project - your dollars will be much better spent.
Many people will be running in the WDW Marathon in order to raise money for PPMD. So, if you happen to be there and see these folks - please give them an extra loud cheer!!!
Thanks
