What can you trade?

I know pin trading is huge & readily available with most CM's in both the parks & resorts. However, I recently was reading a blog & the author mentioned something about regularly trading vinylmation with CM's at stores. Does anyone know more about this? Are there other items that are regularly traded in Disney?

There is Vinylmation trading in the parks. It's like pin trading, but at far fewer locations (i.e., there is usually only one location per park). Unlike pin trading, you don't get to necessarily pick the Vinylmation. You select a number from the mystery box and then that's the Vinylmation you can trade for. Be sure to ask the CM what are the rules. Most CMs will allow you to turn down the trade if you don't like the Vinylmation, but the rules technically say you have to trade and some CMs are strict about the rules.

I've heard that there is also non-CM SotMK card trading at Tortuga Tavern. I haven't been there when it was happening, but it's mentioned fairly frequently. These aren't trades with CMs, but rather with other folks who collect the cards.

Yes, you can trade vinylmations, but to be honest the quality of it has diminished the past year or so. DS enjoyed trading vinylmations but the past year especially the trading has been bad and we actually didn't do any trades last trip. They have gotten very strict with the rules and there aren't as many locations as before. And most importantly there really aren't any good vinylmations to get in a trade. Many people trade in the non-popular, clearance sale vinylmations you get at Disney store or the really UGLY ones from Urban Series. When you try to do a trade you find you usually have the same choices or tend to get the same ones in the mystery trade and there aren't any good ones you want to trade for.

Unfortunately I don't think it's worth lugging around vinylmations in the parks anymore to trade.
