What can you tell me about Teppanyaki?

We are going in June and I want to try some new places to eat. DH & I love Japenese food and one DS will enjoy it too. My other DS is very picky and will nibble on the chicken, but will eat a ton of rice. What is this atmosphere & the food like?

Thanks,
Kim

We love Teppanyaki - our kids are 11, 8, and 5. My youngest is very picky, but loves white rice. We just get that for her and she nibbles on stuff from our plates.

The kids love it since they cook right at your table.
It's one of our favorites!

I would be interested in the replies on this. On my upcoming trip (counter below) we will be going there. None of us have ever been. We are really excited about it.

We enjoyed the atmosphere when we went in May 2004 and the food was good too. Would definitely recommend the steak and shrimp, very tender and tasty.

Do they season the food with anything or do they give you a dipping sauce?

The Teppanyaki is similar to many Japanese steak houses. If you have ever been to a "Benihana of Tokyo" it is very similar. There are grills with seating for eight at each, so normally you will be sharing the table with other parties.

The "normal" meal starts with soup or salad. There will be grilled vegetables, usually onions, squash and mushrooms. The primary seasonings during cooking are butter, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, lemon juice and salt. If you have dietary restrictions let the chef know and he will cook your food somewhat separately ffrom the others.

You will get a bowl of white rice. There are two kinds of dipping sauces provided. Also you will get grilled bean sprouts.

Our DS (10) loves this restaurant. He is a picky eater as well. He usually get the shrimp and then shares some of our steak or chicken. He might eat a vegatable if he's in the mood but he loves the steamed rice. We have a great time watching the cooks. You will enjoy it.

I say it was good. My husband feels it was great. He says the best meal he ever had in his life was there.

Thanks for the info.:D The reason I ask is because if things are too spicy I will be in some trouble and heading to a store to dfind some Immodium:earseek: , so I wanted to know ahead of time:earboy2:

Just as an FYI - When we ate there (for the first time) earlier this month - we did not get soup/salad with our meal.

Since we had never been there before - we had nothing prior to compare it to - and we loved it! Our chef was great and we really enjoyed the meal/show!

Most of us had the chicken or chicken/steak combo (the steak was GOOD) served with zucchini, onions, and mushrooms and bean sprouts I believe with rice on the side. VERY good. (and you gotta eat it all with your chopsticks! heheh) The tea served with is very good as well.

ENJOY it...if it's your first time, I think you'll love it!

Teppanyaki=Benihana

Nothing more, nothing less.

Average food, average price for that type of restaurant.

I love Teppenyaki. The veggies are very good and fresh. In the past we had a salad before the meal w/a great ginger dressing on it. They have a ginger and mustard dipping sauce which we luckily got the recipes for and now make at home.

I have a seafood allergy and another party did order shrimp. The chef was very careful to cook my food even the veggies separate from everything else. If I recall he didn't even put the shrimp on the cooking surface till my food was on my plate.

They give you a warm cloth to wash your hands w/prior...it feels great.
