It looks like we might be going from 7 people to 6 people on our Dec trip.

So I was thinking that we might be better off in a room that will hold all 6 of us instead of 2 rooms at Pop. (2 adults and 4 kids instead of 3 adults and 4 kids)

We are looking at the cabins but I am worried it won't feel like we are at Disney being in a cabin instead of a hotel !

We stayed in a cabin for a week with our 3 kids two years ago. Here are my pros: it was nice to not worry about how much noise the kids made, since there were no neighbors sharing walls like in a regular hotel room, it was "fun" to stay in a cabin and my kids really loved it, we put the kids all in the bedroom and we slept on the murphy bed in the living room -it was really nice to put the kids to bed and have the rest of the place to ourselves, the kitchen was very handy to have for breakfast, snacks and drinks, we rented a golf cart to get around which was a highlight of that vacation for my kids, the boat transportation to the MK was great, very peaceful surroundings-really felt away from the hectic pace of the parks. cons: I personally missed the resort feel of the regular resort-I enjoy walking to the lobby and exploring the resorts which just wasn't the same here, the pool is lame and not in a convenient location-you would need to ride a bus or rent a golf cart to get there, the golf cart was fun but expensive, the floors in the cabin were a little bit dirty all the time-since you are coming right in from the woods, the bedroom is very small, I noticed more bugs than usual-again, you are in the woods- not a lot of them, just more than usual, we felt we needed to rent a car to get around-Disney transportation wasn't that convenient since you needed to ride 2 buses. Would I stay there again, probably. But I enjoyed our stay at BWV better, and think I'm more of a DVC resort type person. You will have a great time if you decide to stay there.:thumbsup2

I have never stayed in them but our friends did and loved it. Now... they also like to go camping etc.... so this was perfect for them. They liked having their own space, to be able to BBQ, and felt it was more layed back.
Bus service was a little crazy for them though.
They are going back in Dec and will be staying in the cabins again.

we stayed in the cabins 2 years ago. 2 adults and 2 kids. We loved it! we rented a cart (in advance) for the weeks stay and like the pp stated, it was the highlight of the trip for the kids. we loved the privacy and not worrying about our noisy kids. we bbq'd 2 nights, which we really enjoyed too. the small pool was boring and very dirty for some reason (there was a film floating on the top of the water). the large main pool was ok but crowded (aren't they all at disney though). there were many activities for the kids if they wanted. we met many friendly people who camp there all the time, almost like a 2nd home to them. i thought that was kind of neat. In the cabin, the kids loved the bunk beds, and dh tried the murphy bed and said it was way more comfortable than a fold out couch bed. The decor in the cabins is adorable. We loved the feel of the 'loops' in the resort - like you're in a little neighborhood. one day dd and i went to mk for the entire day and night, while dh and ds lizard hunted, walked our loop a few times, rode the cart looking for gators, hit every playground, etc, etc. We loved the campfire/movie (although you can do that anyway, but it was nice being on-site for it). we'd take our cart to the trading post, get snacks, and ride around the resort for an hour. we enjoyed the buffet dinner once or twice too.

For you though, 6 people might be pushing it w/ the bathroom situation. other than that, i'd recommend it. But i'd also recommend renting the golf cart (but make sure you can ride 6 - i don't know if you can). if you can't rent a golf cart, i don't know if i'd recommend it as much. it would have been a real pain if we had to do the bus system anytime we left our cabin. i even golf carted to the laundry room, which was fun!

We stayed in the cabins in 2004. We really loved it. The kitchen and the separate bedroom and TV for the kids were the big plusses. But you should check out the Camping board here on the DIS, and also mousesavers.com has a links section that gets you to this guy, Jeff's, blog where there are a ton of pictures of the Cabins.

Six people is a lot to be sharing one toilet. When we went a few years back with the four of us there was a lot of coordination. Someone would announce, "I'm going to "use" the bathroom, and then anyone else who just needed the bathroom quickly would jump up and go first. (And absolutely no one wanted to enter the bathroom after DH "used" it.) A whole week of announcing when you needed to "use" the bathroom got a bit annoying.

Consider going off site. You can get a home, with your own pool, about 20 minutes away for $800 for a week. That includes two full baths and 3 bedrooms. Try VRBO.com. (Vacation rental by owners.)

I would do this or the suites at the all stars.

We stayed in the cabins a few years ago and loved it! There were 6 of us then: me, dh, 2 teens, 2 small children. Plenty of room for all of us. I have also stayed at POP. I would highly recommend staying in the cabins before getting 2 rooms at the POP. The only issue is the bathroom. If it is 6 big people, then POP would probably be better. However, if yours is a family with small children, then get the cabins.

The only drawback we had was we didn't rent a golf cart. I really wished we would have.

It was great making a quick breakfast for the kids in the mornings (oatmeal, cereal, etc.), having a snack after the parks (pizza rolls, hot chocolate, popcorn, etc.). It's a full-sized kitchen in the cabin. I didn't want to be cooking on my vacation, so I didn't make any real "meals". But with the small children it was great having access to a stove, fridge, dishwasher, etc. We also had 2 tvs. Dh got to watch his Bowl games in the main area, the kids watched Disney Channel in the bedroom area.

We got a cabin in the loop right next to a pool. During the day, the teens hung out at the pool, dh slept in the cabin, and I took the little ones to MK (there's a boat that goes right to MK). We would all meet up later on in the cabin, then onto the parks for dinner and then hang out at the park for the night.

It was the most relaxing WDW trip we took. :) (and you'll find that everyone who stays in the cabins says that).
