DH and I have been thinking about getting D-Way from Directv. I've never really heard anything about it, so what info can you share with me? I know it's a little pricey but since we live in a tiny town, pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, it's about the only high speed internet we can get.
I want to know if it's worth the price before I commit to anything so tell me all about it.

TIA ! :goodvibes

I have to tell you my DSIL lives in a teeny tiny town in Pa. and there is no other option for high speed internet then the direcway. They love it they used to have comcast when they lived here in NJ but they like the Direcway MUCH better. The initial cost is pricey but it is worth it (for them anyway) She said there was NO WAY she was going back to dial up so they got the direcway!! I think if you have no other options for high speed and you want faster downloads I would go for it! The only time she was not able to access the internet was when they got about 16" of snow and the dish was buried! But my DBIL took a broom and brushed it off! But since then they have had more snow and she hasnt had another problem!

Great! Thank you very much for the input. :)

We have it and absolutely hate it!!! Out where we live, people who are less than 1,000 feet away from us have high speed internet through Charter Comm., but for some reason they can't stretch their cabling to the last two houses?!?!?! Direcway was our only option and have had it for 5 years. Anytime there's a cloud in the sky, drizzle of rain, or spitting snow, we cannot access the internet.

If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know.

I have had it for a few years. My only option other than dial up due to where I live (boonies). It is a pita. If it is cloudy and rainy- no signal. I can't believe the amount of problems I have had with it. I have even considered going back (gasp) to dial up..... It is much faster (most of the time- but not ALL of the time) than dial up but the lack of service is frustrating. And then when you DO have a problem to get through customer service is a nightmare.

Are you sure it is your only option??? I had heard there was another dish setup of some sort... maybe you should do a bit more research?

Good luck in your quest. I would go with someone else if I could.

I'm certain this is our only other highspeed option. I definitely don't want to pay that kind of money for something that may or may not work if it's cloudy and/or rainy. :(

I sympathize because we are also on dial-up.
Honestly, a good portion of the internet is becoming unusable for dial-up. It is just too graphics intense to be practical anymore.

Comcast was supposed to come out and survey our lot last week/beginning of this week. They promised that they would call me with the news of whether or not they can run a cable to our house. But they haven't called me yet. :(

If they tell me no, I honestly think we will have to seriously start considering DirecWay. I hate the cost however.

Wow I am surprised that some here dont like it. My DSIL loves it I just talked to her about it today and she uses it for work. She is a complete computer nerd :teeth: she is on it probably 6 to 7 hours a day for her work and said the only time she had a problem was when the snow buried it. oh and last summer a wicked thunder storm rolled in over the mountains and my DN was online and walked into the living room complaining the internet was out! Needless to say she got a reaming :rotfl: WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON THE COMPUTER IN A THUNDER STORM??? That computer is my DSIL's baby!! :teeth: I dont know maybe it works well for her because they are in the mountains? Also if the dish is not installed in the absoulutely correct spot then you will have problems. They did for the first 3 days kept losing signal then they had the guy come back out with his little machine and walk all around the house and found a better spot. Her theory is because there is so much you cant do with dial up such as when you are down loading when you have big files either they just wont work or there are errors with the dial up and they take FOREVER! :teeth: For her it was worth it because all she is able to do with it the occasional time it might be out was well worth all the things she is able to get done with it. I still have dial up (duh!) when high speed is readily available and I hate it we are having it installed next week. I think the dial up was what helped put the nails in my old computers coffin it was a 3 year old HP that just finally died it was sooo bogged down with spyware. We finally bought a Dell XP600 (that I love) and I am a big idiot with this awesome computer still using dial up!! My DH went on and say Why is the computer running slow too? I had to explain to him that it is not the computer it is the connection! And he said then get the cable! he he he My dh is normally stingy with things like that but he finally see's!! :rotfl:
