What can you do now that you couldn't do before you lost weight?

I have lost 64 pounds since March. I still have at least that much more to lose. I have discovered that since I do have so many pounds to lose before reaching my goal weight, it's helpful to celebrate every little achievement along the way. Some of the things that I can do now that I haven't been able to do in a VERY long time are cross my legs, wear pantyhose and actually be comfortable, and wear shoes with heels. I was just wondering what things all of you have recently been able to do because of your weight loss. Anyone care to share?

I can exercise without feeling tortured! I can run without feeling like I have a bucket of bricks strapped to my can. I can say "NO" to cider mill donuts. I can sit without feeling like I have a noose around my waist. I can tie my shoes in the center, instead of off to the inside. I can drink water and be satisfied. I can hold my head high, knowing I'm setting a great example for the rest of my family, even if they choose not to follow it. I can dream of the day that I actually walk without my thundrous thighs rubbing holes in my pants!

I like this thread! I am going to spend lots of time today thinking about how far I've come! Thanks for the motivation!

Keep the Faith!

I was able to get on & off the parking lot tram & through the turnstiles at WDW without turning sideways! It may not sound like much, but it was a big deal to me! :teeth:

I can get in and out of those little stadium seats in the arena without "wedging" myself in!!!

I can go up and down the stairs without stopping to catch my breath!

I can wear a sundress with no pantyhose, and my thighs don't rub together till they're sore!!

I can shop in the department with the regular misses sizes!

My knees aren't sore and achy all the time!

I can keep up (almost) with my 10 year old!

Yessss on being able to tie my shoes comfortably!!!

If I sit on the floor, I can get up by myself!!!

I can put on pantyhose without having to lean on something! :bounce:

I can wear jeans again ( I refused to by anything bigger than a 14 before, and they didn't fit). I just bought size 8 jeans in both Lands End and Levi's recently. The Levi's were a little snug.

I can fit into size 4 / 6 or 8 pants. I haven't been able to do that since I was in High School. Just this weekend I actually bought a size 4 and I am wearing them now. They must run a little big.

Walking down the aisle of the plane without turning side-ways- That felt really good!

Not having to pull the airplane seatbelt all the way out, and not feeling squished in the seat!

Eating healthy food, and really liking the way it makes me feel!
Having power over the food, instead of it having power over me.

Looking at myself in the mirror - I tended not to look before

This is definately a great thread- and really makes you think about how far you have come.

We have all done so good!

Melanie-This is a journey, not a destination!

This is a wonderful thread. :)

Granted I'm nowhere near the end of my weight-loss journey, but I have lost 28 lbs and now I can...

Run around the yard with my daughters (ages 9 and 6) without feeling winded.

I feel more comfortable talking with people -- I don't feel like all they see is my size.

I can easily tie my shoes!

I can see my feet. LOL.

I can go for a walk and feel energized not like I'd like to be doing anything BUT.

I can give weight-loss advice based on my own experience.

I just feel better in general. :) and feel like nothing is impossible any longer.

Well Almost Nothing.

;)

1. Fit into more than 1/2 the clothes in my closet.
2. Walk to work without being tired.
3. Where my clothes with confidence.
4. Feel good about myself.
5. Looking forward to weighing in each week.
6. Not obsessing about food.
7. Buy sexier clothes.
8. Search the stores for smaller sizes.
9. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
10. Get bigger and better kisses from my husband.
11. Receive compliments on how pretty or different I look.

Should I go on??????

Oh what a great thread! I have only lost 21 lbs so far so I still have quite a ways to go but I have noticed things already myself! A BIG one for me is that I am BACK in the Misses department and I love it! Today I stopped in New York and Company and tried on some things and they FIT! I couldn't believe it! I don't feel winded when DH parks a LONG way from the mall entrance as he often does. I fit in to all the clothes in my closet again. Count me in for tying my shoes comfortably again - isn't that a great feeling? - ::yes:: We've all come so far already and there are only more good things to come! Great job everyone!! :Pinkbounc

This is really an upbeat thread.

I just walked a 5K charity walk without getting tired and without my thighs aching.

My knees no longer ache when I go up and down the stairs or walk up and down hills. (And here I thought I needed a knee replacement).

I can fit into clothes at the "other" end of my closet.

I no longer get a rash under the band of my bra.

All this and I only lost 17 pounds!! Think what I'll be able to do when I lose a lot more. :hyper:

I can wear Karen Millen - yeay!!!!

I don't have to wear tights(sorry pantyhose) when it's warm to stop my thighs rubbing.

I can go up 11 flights of stairs withouth having to stop for a breather.

I can put the bounce back into my stride without worrying that the wrong bits are going to wobble:bounce:

I can touch my toes!!!!

I can do a bridge again.

Yeay!!!

I can wear sleeveless shirts and see lots of definition in my arms.

I can wear the itty bitty string bikini that my sister gave me (I looked like a sausage in it back in Feb/March and now I look REALLY good in it!)
http://www.rossandkaren.org/keys.htm

I can do a bunch of manly-man push ups and every time I do them it gets easier and easier!

I can wear short shorts and know that my muscular thighs are looking good!

I can look in a mirror and feel happy about how I look instead of criticizing every roll of fat or my thick neck or extra chin, etc.

I have a tremendous amount of energy!

I can carry 90% of my groceries into the house in one trip (thank goodness for plastic bags). Usually only have to make two trips if I've gotten things like laundry detergent and milk and beer, kind of cumbersome to carry all at once with the rest of the groceries.

I can get through shopping for groceries by hitting the perimeter of the store, and most of what I buy is from the produce section!

I can get through a whole week without sneaking in a "cheat weigh". The scale doesn't rule my life quite as much as it used to, although I still love when it goes down! ;)

I can hug my husband and not play tummy wars with him (we have both lost our guts!!!) :bounce:

I can wake up at 6:00 and stay up until 10:00 and get up just as early the next day and feel fully rested.

I can sleep through the night without waking up with an upset tummy (which was a result of eating too much or just eating greasy food).

I can drink 2 beers and feel like I've had 4!:teeth:

I get full on the appetizer at most restuarants.

I can live with eating out once a week instead of 2-4 times a week.

I can enjoy a huge salad made with Newman's Own raspberry dressing, 1 ounce of cheese, a bunch of lettuce, 1/2 an apple and 3 oz of grilled chicken and feel completely satisified.

I can power walk in the morning and again after dinner.

I can rollerblade 9 miles in one hour.

I can walk through the mall and not even blink in the direction of Auntie Anne's pretzels.

I can wear size M shirts!!!!!

I *should* shop for smaller bras...

I can stand with my feet together and place my palms flat on the floor (bend from the waist and NOT bend my knees).

I'm sure there are more things I can do. Anything is possible. When I weighed in the 190s I couldn't even walk a flight of steps without gasping for air. Over the summer I ran 5 miles and felt GREAT (knees keeping me from running now).

The best part of losing weight and getting really toned from weight lifting is that I realized I can do anything I want in life. Nobody did this for me. I did this for myself. Every day I continue to make great choices. I still enjoy nachos and margaritas in moderation, but I really enjoy the new clothes I am wearing, how I feel when I look in the mirror, the compliments from DH and my family, knowing that I am inspiring my parents to get fit, etc. There are way too many payoffs from doing what I have done. It's incredible!::yes::

I really wanted this thread to keep going!

I no longer have a double chin.

I am in control of what I eat.

My son told me I looked pretty.

I am looking forward to going shopping for me, not just the kids.

I go shopping and actually buy something that fits.

I cancelled my order for the 1X and 2X tops, knowing I'm finally in control of the food and I won't need those sizes ever again.

I am exercising. I am so in love with that statement, you just don't know.

I enjoy being able to shop in the misses department again. I have found a new love for low rise jeans something i did'nt know existed before i lost some weight. I also love wearing a shoe that's not flat actually i have a fav pair of boots that have a 2 inch heel on it unheard of before i hit a decent weight. Also i now enjoy looking in the mirror and not seeing back rolls and lately there's no tummy rolls. I'm not a model just a regular gal sure i still have the strecth marks and i'm a hair flabby but at this point i don't really care about that. I'm not vain about my looks i'm very happy with the new me just got to teak it alittle bit and i'll be tickled to death.

What an awesome thread! I don't have anything to share yet but feel inspired by all the posts.

An awesome thread indeed. Thanks, Vija, for linking it to your post.

My most recent discovery is that I can use a hotel towel and actually have it cover my body.

I can exercise without thinking I am going to die if I go longer than 10 minutes.

I can wear shirts tucked into the jeans that I was never able (or comfortable) wearing before I lost weight.

I can wear a belt with those tucked in shirts.

I can pull the tray down in an airplane seat and not have it touch my belly.

I no longer wear plus size clothes and I can shop in the regular sized clothes departments.

I am sure there are more, but these are what come to mind at the moment.

Not having to roll around the bed trying to tuck up my knees into my shirt to stretch it out so it'll be loose around my belly:rotfl:
