What can we expect with a summer visit?

Hi,

Both our visits to DL have been in May/June. Just wondering how bad the crowds are and what to expect. Our DF's are planning a visit in July and we'd love to join them but DH is really hesitant about going in July (19-22)when crowds will be at their peak. I've read Hydro Guys tips but I'd also like to hear of others personal experiences. :)

We go mid August. It is always warm-hot, it is always busy(moreso if the AP's are unblocked.) We never do weekends any more, just to insane.

Our trip a couple years ago during the summer was warm & busy....be very doable. Take advantage of getting there early & collecting fastpasses for using later in the day when it gets busy. Take an afternoon break & come back to enjoy the entertainment, late hours & using those FP's.

We found Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays to be our best days.....less people.

By the way....we went the week prior to the 4th of July & a few days after......the 4th was a madhouse....but we had a blast on the rest of the trip!!!

Heat, crowds...but most everything up and running.

Get there very early, drink tons of water, reapply sunscreen often.

Have fun!

:thumbsup2 I second the advice.

Summertime is hot and crowded, yes, but manageable if you ask me.

On July 19, you may have some residual crowds from the 55th DL anniversary celebrated on July 17.

Also, a lot will depend on the summertime promotions. If there is an attractive promotion for SoCal non-AP holders as there was last year with the $99 3 day Summer Fun pass, expect crowds. July 4, which was blocked out from most APs and the Summer Fun pass, was actually less busy than other summer days.

However, based on the experience last year, we expect that summer days when the Deluxe AP is blocked out will be less busy than many other times of the year, like October. As a result, we are not renewing our DAP and plan to go in late June and early August. -- Suzanne

We were there last July and were surprised that it wasn't more busy. The crowds were very manageable and even Friday and Saturday weren't too busy until late afternoon. The heat wasn't too bad, being from Utah we are used to hot weather. One thing we did was to take a couple small spray bottles for the kids to use when they got hot. they had a blast squirting each other and it kept them cooled off and entertained while waiting in lines.

Have a great trip!

We were there mid-July last year and the first 4 hours of the day were fabulous. We were in the park by 8 am (when it opened) and walked on many, many rides. By the time it got to 11am crowds were starting to build and it started to get much warmer. We picked up as many FP's as we could by noon (and didn't use them), ate some lunch and then went back to our hotel for a swim and a nap. It took the pressure off of our feet, cooled us off and helped us rejuvenate. We went back to DLR by about 5 each evening and used our morning FP's for rides that had 90-120 minute lines and enjoyed the evening entertainment and not having the sun directly overhead.

I sunburn super easy and should have worn a hat, but I wore 50+ sunscreen instead - since hats make me hot. I saw a ton of people wearing hats, though and should have just gotten one when I was there. I didn't get sunburned, but we always felt just a little dehydrated, even though we drank tons of water.

We found July at DLR very doable and would consider doing it again.

Hot and crowded.
We have gone in June the last two years and we go into the trip knowing that we'll have longer lines than usual (September is our Bday trip). It has become a tradition of celebrating the end of school/kickoff to Summer.

On the positive side there are no rides closed for refurb, more shows, fireworks etc.

Have fun!
