What can we do on Key West day?

Looking for ideas :)

Normally, DH and I get off the ship and wander Key West a little, then head back to the ship and swim for the remainder of the day.

However, for our upcoming cruise he's thinking he would like to do something in the morning. We don't want to commit to any pre-paid port activities, so we were wondering if anyone has ever taken a taxi to a beach, or something similar. We've done the whole Duval Street thing, so I'm hoping someone can suggest something we can do in the morning after docking.

Thanks :)

Fort Zachary Taylor State Park beach looks nice from a distance. You can see it from the ship as you pull into port. I think it's the largest beach on the island. Honestly, Key West isn't known for great beaches. I have only been to the beach adjacent to the southernmost point buoy. It's pretty small and crowded.

MUN

I was about to say what Mun said. Key West and Beach are almost mutually exclusive terms.

Go have breakfast at Pepe's on Caroline. Grab a bike and explore the cemetery. Join the Breakfast Club at Schooner Wharf.

You can walk to the Southernmost point. We also did a super fun Extreme Shark Feeding excursion, not through Disney. I paid in advance, but they also have a booth right on the pier (if you’re not docked at the Navy yard that day) that you can check to see if they have availability.

Biking around Key West is a great idea! We were on Key West last Sunday and we saw loads of people biking around. My son and I walked over to the cemetery which took us through some of the neighborhoods. The cemetery is very cool and we walked by some cool looking houses.

Agreed. I land there this Tuesday for a week and the first thing I'm doing once I check into my quarters for the week is to go get a bike from Pirate Scooters.

If you're adventurous enough/comfortable enough on a bike, ride up to the East Martello Tower and visit Robert the Doll. Grab something to drink at Louie's Afterdeck on the way back. Stop at the Butterfly Conservatory after that for a really cool visit with beautiful flying things. Before making the final trip back to the boat, hit up The Green Parrot for one of the diviest bars on the rock. It's a real legend.

Great ideas, thank you! I'll skip Robert the Doll, though :upsidedow. I just finished watching Ozzy and Jack Osbourne's show, and Robert the Doll was featured prominently :teeth:.

I did a guided stand up paddle board tour in October. Others on the same tour were in kayaks. I loved it! Can’t wait to do it again.

We have walked down to the Truman White House, the Key Lime Factor store and Southern most point, made for a great day.
