What can I do for the stomache flu?

DS had the stomache flu for the SECOND time this month. Gatorade and cheerios don't stay down, wather much either. I had been giving him a little something every half hour to see if it would stick, per my Dr's instructions. Now even that doesn't seem to be helping the little guy. What else can I do?

How old is your son? From his picture, he looks like a little guy, so I'll try to answer (my DS is one year old). When my DS has the stomach bug, I gave him Pedialyte in a medicine dropper, a teaspoon at a time, every 1/2 hour. That seemed to be as much as he could handle. I also let him nurse when we wanted to and he kept most of that down as well. He basically didn't eat any solids for two days, then we tried toast, crackers, applesauce, and bananas. The stomach bug stinks -- I hope your son feels better soon!

Oh yeah, keep track of his wet diapers. If he doesn't have one all day, it is time to do see the doctor because he could be dehydrated.

I would call your doctor and see if they can call in a prescription for nausea. It might be in a rectal form but it will definitely help. My daughter had phergan prescribed once but she was 5 at the time. But surely there is something they can give him to help.

Good luck!

He will be three in May. I will do the pedialight when he wakes. I had been doing an ounce of gatorade.

Hi! My sympathies to you and yours! DH & I have a NEW respect for washing machines after this weekend! LOL! DS got this Thursday and is now feeling better! :) DS wouldn't keep pedialtye or gatorade down. I called the dr and his wife answered! HA HA! She told me that they keep fruit cocktail in "heavy syrup" in the house! They drain the syrup and give him about half inch in a sippie cup every 20-45 mins. I tried this and ds kept it down! I did this all day Friday and he started feeling better. Saturday and Sunday we did pedialtye and today we are back to water. I am not sure when to try milk again, but so far so good today! Good luck and many hugs to you! Hopefully, he will feel better soon!

Try 1 Tbsp. of liquid every 30 minutes.

Be on the lookout for signs of dehydration (dry diapers, crying dry tears, etc.). If he starts showing signs of dehydration, call your doctor.

I hope he is feeling better soon.

My Dr told me about the heavy syrup too, but we don't have any in the house.

When my friends had the stomach flu, the *only* thing either of them could keep down was warm jello in small quantities. You might try that.

My Doc bro-inlaw has always told me nothing for at least a 30 to hr after they throw up. Then I do chipped ice with a spoon. Alot times when you are that sick you do not want anything.

But like above poster said just to make sure they go potty.

I hope he is feeling better! We had to stop everything except clear liquids for 24 hours and no milk products for 3 days last bout we had. Our doc said to keep giving her the liquids, even if they kept coming up. Beats the heck out of dry heaves, and some will usually be retained.

Again, I hope you all are better today!

Well he hasn't thrown up since before lunch yesterday. Of course he hasn't eaten anything either. DH went out and got some canned fruit with heavy syrup and now he has been drinking that OK. I'm going to try saltines and see how he does with those. He wants food so badly! Of course it is things he can't have like cheese and cookies and Taco Bell. :teeth: Yesterday when I told him he couldn't have any cheese he turned into Demon Child and said "mama don't say NO CHEESE!" in a very scary voice.
Rajah, I remember the warm jello trick, maybe I will do that today!

Thanks everyone for checking in. I hope this ends soon!

My Sammy 3 has had this since Sunday night. He has a brother and sister at two different schools and I sure they are bringing germs home. I had to put him in the shower in the middle of the night. The poor guy. :guilty:

I am so tired of washing linens and his clothes. Today has been better. He is moving around and playing. Still not eating much, just 1 banana.

Once your son feels like eating you can try the B.R.A.T. diet. Bananas, rice (or starch), applesauce and toast.

I hope he's feeling better soon.

UGH! I have call in to the dr now!
i hope they are all feeling better soon! :)

The BRAT diet sounds the way to go. Of course he won't eat bananas. But rice and toast sound the way to go. That and warm jello. :teeth:

I hope all our little ones get better soon!
