Looks like work is sending me Westward next month for 5 or 6 days. I will probably have a free day at each end. I know about the Zoo, and would probably try to get there, but what else?

I will be working Friday and Saturday, but will have Thursday to play (for sure) and maybe Sunday (depending on when they fly us out).

Don't think that a jaunt to DL has not crossed my mind Mr. Murphy! :teeth: I've just got to wait and see how the whole thing shakes out. :hyper: :hyper:

San Diego, TX? :teeth:

Well let's see...it's a tiny little town just west of Alice, Tx. My mother was raised there and grew up bored most of her life....

:teeth:

I don't know much about San Diego, CA...but I'm sure there are a bunch of people on here that do!

Deb, San Diego is a beautiful city. LOTS of things to do!

Seaworld- see Shamu and friends.. definitely worth a Day.
Seaport Village- Shops and Restaurants... touristy buy very nice! I used to enjoy going in the late afternoon-early evening to enjoy coffee and the sunset. Fun to watch all the people flying kites.
Old Town-Historic San Diego.... great Mexican restaurant.. yummy
Harbor- Go on down and see all of the Sailors!!! Get a tattoo too!
Tijuana..... you can take to trolley over to Mexico.... We have not been over there in years.... can't say I miss it tho. but if you go... I sure could use a couple bottles of Mexican vanilla.... GREAT STUFF!!!!
Disneyland is about a 3 hour drive... on a good day....

Whalewatching out of the San Diego harbor is FABULOUS!! Next month is a good time to go... I think the tours run 2-4 hours...

Hope this gave you a few ideas. The weather in San Diego is most always terrific.. bring your shorts, sandals.. come sit in the sun on Mission Bay.
Have a great trip!
Joan

San Diego is a beautiful city. I haven't been there in a number of years but when we lived in CA this was our favorite place for a weekend getaway.

Of course, there's Sea World, but you can do that in Orlando or San Antonio. They are only slightly different as best as I can remember. Well, San Diego SW does have one thing the others don't - a real ocean!. The San Diego Zoo is phenomenal & San Diego Wild Animal Park (about 30-40 miles away) is great too. Mission Bay has beautiful beaches. Downtown has Horton Plaza.

If you need someplace to stay you could go to the Hotel Del Coronado - the historic hotel which the Grand Floridian is modeled after. Its beautiful & historic. If you want to drive up to Disneyland plan on about 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on traffic. San Diego is worth seeing just on its own though. Good luck!

What would you like to know about my hometown? It's a beautiful city with great weather and tons to do! In addition to the World Famous San Diego Zoo, and Sea World we fave fabulous beaches, great dining, interesting historic sites, great shopping, and of course me!

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all. I'm happy to help!

Also check out Little Italy or The Gaslamp District for some great places to eat and stroll around. We also drive up to La Jolla for some good shopping and walking around. It truly is a beautiful city. There are some great museums in Balboa Park as well I believe. You could spend a week there and not see everything!! Also, the trolley system is a great way to get around. You can go all the way to Tijuana and up to Old Town on it. Chekc out a map ahead of time to strategically plan.

BTW - If you are a baseball fan the Padres new stadium (Petco Field - I think) should be just about ready to go for opening day. You could always check that out.

San Diego is a great city. We've been a couple of time, most recently in December. Besides the zoo there are all kinds of museums in Balboa park, Old Town is great fun. I'd recommend doing the Old Town trolley tour. Here's a link:

It gives you an opportunity to see a lot of different parts of the city and got on/off at 8 stops. It's really great if you've never been to the city and/or don't have a car.

San Diego is VERY beautiful and we were surprised at how much there was to do. Definitely try to visit Coronado Island and see the Hotel Del and Coronado Beach. Old Town is cool with lots of restaurants and you can even tour the haunted Whaley House. The zoo is gorgeous and MASSIVE. We did go to Sea World and liked it a lot maybe because of the pretty setting.

Enjoy whatever you end up doing! One note, if you decide to drive up to Disneyland count on stop and go traffic. It took us forever to drive between San Diego and Anaheim both ways.

I went to San Diego 2 years ago. We enjoyed the zoo and the wild animal park. Plus we liked sea world, the old town and out day in Mexico. I also enjoyed simply lazing on the beach and looking around the hotels.

I lived in San Diego for six months in 1992 and it was simply fabulous. So many great suggestions here! Some of my favorites are Seaport Village, Horton Plaza and the zoo. We enjoyed going to the beach, visiting the Hotel Del Coronado and La Jolla. Whatever you decide to do you will have a great time I am sure.

If you only have one day I would pick the Wild Animal Park over the Zoo.

Don't get me wrong, the Zoo is great but it still a zoo whereas the Wild Animal Park is something completely different. (think a grander Safari Ride).

Lots of things we love have already been mentioned, but here are a couple I would add. Many of the suggestions could be done after a day of work (or conference)... I love going to the harbor and taking a cruise around the bay. The have 1 & 2 hour trips, lots of fun and they tell you a lot about what you are seeing. If you have some early morning time and are close head over to the little shopping area where the ferry drops you off on Coronado Island - you catch it in the same place as the cruises. There are a couple very good coffee shops with great breakfast treats, and the view of downtown San Diego is wonderful. Same goes in the evening, watching the sun set against the buidlings is truly a sight. A bit further north along the shore is the Star of India - a large sailing vessel (hope it is still there) and they have self guided tours. Right near there is a seafood restaurant, it has 3 different places. One is a fast food counter, there is a moderate priced sit down area and then a higher end fine dining place. We've tried all three and they are wonderful.

Up in Pacific Beach there is a great omlette place, I'm sure the folks in your hotel can tell you about it. Also, in the evening over by the Bahia, Catamaran and one other resort there is a riverboat that runs between the three hotels, has live music and dancing. It is a great time!
