You may wonder - why would anyone care what kind of washers are at this resort ? Well, my old Kenmore gave up the ghost after 17½ years of use and I'm trying to determine what to replace it with. Since DVC would likely purchase reliable units to keep long term maintenance costs down, and OKW is the only resort where the units are full-size instead of apartment-size you can see why I want to know what is in use at this particular resort.

Besides, this would bring me one step closer to making my home like my "home away from home." ;)

All the appliances at the Disney resorts are GE.

GE also sponsors the Illuminations fireworks every night, just a little FYI.

Hum, wonder who I work for.......

Just an FYI... we had a GE washer for only 3 years when it died!!! It would have cost nearly as much to repair it as to replace it, so of course we replaced it with my "dream" washer!

We have already had that replacement, a frigidaire front loader, longer than that stinkin' GE lol. I absolutely LOVE it! I since have sworn off GE washers from now on :) I am in LOVE w/the front loader. Worth every penny IMO!

I have an Amana washer & dryer. After doing our research, about 4 yrs ago, I wouldn't buy GE at that time. I do believe though that the GE Profile line is pretty good now. I would only recommend that line.

Happy shopping.....;)

A good front loader is more environmentally friendly, as well. It costs more up front, but saves much more in operation costs over the life of the machine. And of course the all important consideration, they look cool!

I didn't want to say anything against GE appliances since Carone works for them, but, now that she's "'fessed up", I have to say that I find the OKW washer/dryer to be very noisy.

Don't ask me about that stove looking thing. Never touched it.;)

When I needed a new washer & dryer recently, I thought about the fact that "my other home" had GE appliances. Came real close to buying one but the store didn't actually have what I wanted. Ended up with Kenmore from Sears....knock on wood they've been great so far.

Thanks for all the input ! I have to admit, though, that I'm leaning toward either Whirlpool, Maytag, or Kenmore (rebadged Whirlpool). A number of people that I have talked to have had poor results with GE washer/dryers, and their repair history in Consumer Reports was much worse that the ones listed above.

But with GE being a MAJOR sponsor at WDW, I can see that there might have been "other" considerations involved other that just long they will last , hmmmmm ........ ;)

My dad owned a coin laundry. He liked Whirlpool and his washers got more use than the average home model! I think the commerical ones are built stronger, but his fav part was that they were easy to repair.

I have no knowledge of the washers/dryers at DVC but wanted to tell you that we've had the same Maytag washer and dryer since we were married 32 years ago. We've never had a service call on the washer and only a belt replacement on the dryer. We're helping keep the Maytag man lonely!

I'm with you Tiffany! I'vehad my Maytag washer and dryer about 9 years with no problems and I wash/dry about 3 loads a day.

In the unit we were in last month at OKW both the Dishwasher and the Washing Machine were beginning to fall apart. Of course with 8 plus years of hard use, I suppose it is to be expected.....

When you consider all of the things GECapital has their greedy little fingers in, its amazing we're all not working for the meatball.

When wifeypoo and I worked as contractors for GE, we found that anywhere we went....there was the meatball...including hanging off the wings of our 'escape from GE' jet vacations. :p

When we first went home and saw the meatball on the appliances, we both just looked at each other and rolled our eyes. At least the range was electric, not gas. :)

All that being said, we had to replace our 30 old 'Norge' when we couldn't find a belt that fit it....wound up going with the Frigidaire front loader as well....we love it, and so has everyone else who's used it. Beyond being more energy efficient, it's quiet as all heck, so if you have a laundry room near a living area, it might be a good choice.

Not all Kenmore is rebadged Whirlpool....some other brands also show up....like Frigidaire front loaders with a kenmore badge and a higher price tag.

And just an aside, I don't know if its the same in Mississippi, but at least around Philly, the small little mom and pop places seem to have much better prices than Sears...our washer (in 1997) cost $650 or so, with delivery and installation...Sears wanted $700, plus tax, plus delivery.

Hope this helps,
Joe
