What brand/style jeans for a 17 year old boy?

My 17 year old DS desperately needs jeans. All he has are shorts and it is getting cold around here. He hates to go shopping for anything, so I want to have something specific in mind. He probably has a 30 inch waist and is 6'0.

If he won't go shopping buy what is cheap and let him deal with it. Teach him a lesson.

My son hates shopping. I just buy stuff and bring it home. If he doesn't like it, I return it.

Old Navy usually has great sales on their jeans. Aeropostale just had a sale 2 for $30. I'm not sure if that's still going on. Hollister also had a sale all jeans $25 each. As for style, skinny or straightleg if he wears sneakers like Converse or Vans. Bootleg if he wears boots or running sneakers.

My son is only 10 and a half, but he loves going shopping and picks out all his clothes! Only thing is, his favorite store is Abercrombie, which is expensive, but I've been lucky to find some goods sales there too.

He always wears Nike running shoes so that is good to know to buy bootleg. If I left it to him, he would just wear shorts every day.

I work in high schools, so I see a lot of 17 year old boys.

Most of them wear the straight cut style and very dark wash.

I actually like the straight cut style, they are less saggy. Thank goodness they are less saggy.

I only see certain groups of boys wearing the skinny jeans, mostly the groups that dress in all black/dark clothing.

Some still wear the "relaxed" style, which is also ok, if it's the right size.

Def the darker washes.

I have found that the darker washes now have a label on them saying they will bleed the first few washes, or may transfer color to skin/clothes.

BUT, I have found if you give them a good coating of ScotchGuard on the outside, and a light coating on the inside BEFORE you wash them for the first time, there will be very little bleeding and will keep the color dark without running/fading. 1 can did 8 pairs of jeans for us.

You know you can salt them instead? It's a lot cheaper than scotch guard.

My 17yodd HATES to shop as well, but I drag her to the store.

Jeans are so odd these days with the waist, length, etc....She wears American Eagle.

My son (18) wears the American Eagle Original Slim Straight in a dark wash. They work well for him because he is also 6 feet tall and he needs the 34" length. Waist sizes are pretty standard. He takes a 32 there and elsewhere.

You might have a difficult time getting the 34" length in a 30 waist but you can get it online. I am able to get the 32x34 in stores but it still is "slim pickins" on that length size.

As a former 17-year-old boy, I'll tell you: Brand doesn't matter, but the darker the blue the better.

As an adult who understands what a budget is: Just buy him some from Old Navy.

Though, introduce him to Dickies as well. I have about three pairs of Dickies I still wear from my high school days, more than a decade ago. They last, last, last.

my ds is 17 and his jeans are all Hollister brand. He does have a few pairs of old navy premiums too but he likes the Hollister ones better

My youngest DS is 6'3" and finding jeans for him are a challenge. He has a 30" waist with a 36" inseam. I'd make sure you know what length to get so they aren't too short. I'd look at the clearance section for Hollister since they tend to be expensive, or American Eagle, or Old Navy which tend to be more reasonably priced.

DS 18 wears a 31x34 and only wears American Eagle jeans in a slim straight. And they have to be dark. No rips.

My DH is 6'1" and takes a 32x34, just as he has since he was about 20. His shoulders got broader as he got older (I still have the Levi jacket he bought when he was 19 and could wear until he was about 23.), but his waist and inseam are the same.

It is difficult to find chinos to fit him, jeans - he knows he likes Levi 501s in 32x34 and I can order those off the Levis website (get on their mailing list and wait for a 30% off sale) - but work day chinos? Different story entirely!

American Eagle for us too. My 16 yo hates to shop also, this year he had no choice he had to go, the ones I ordered online didn't work. So we moped off to the store.

The chinos/khakis I was able to find at Banana Republic Factory Store. They fit great too! Size 32x34!
