What brand of clothing did you grow up asking for? (inspired by FreshTressa)

I never asked for any. I think the only designers we had in the stone age were Levi and Wrangler. :confused3 ::yes:: :p

Castlegazer-- No, you are not the only one! I used to work at Paul Harris/Pasta and had some kind of fashionable clothes even as I was "getting older". After they closed, I had no idea where to buy my clothes!! I have ended up finding somewhat fashionable clothes at Belk. The only reason I really buy for the label now is quality and comfort.

Also, I definantly don't put as much time into getting ready for a normal day as I did many years ago. If I'm dressed, hair and teeth brushed, and I'm clean, I'm happy!! I might should change that, and put a little bit more effort into, but w/ 2 kids, a DH and a job, I don't know if it will! LOL!:sunny:

Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans
Reebock Sneakers
Sweaters from the Limited.

None! I knew my families money situation, and I never dared to ask for certain brands.

If there was a specific brand that I wanted, I would use my own money to buy it.

OP cord shirts..ocean pacific! w/ the Izod shirts and nike sneaker w/ the light blue swoosh...this was in FL. When I moved to PA it was the oxfords w/ the collars standing up.."flats" of various colors. Sasson jeans, and again Izod shirts!

Does anyone remember those little Bermuda bags with the wooden handles? The ones where you could change the bag? Loved those. Along with the shell belt buckles that you could change the matching leather belt. Of course, that was when we'd wear a turtleneck, several Izod shirts, a oxford shirt (collar up!) and a sweater all at the same time.

Oh, I had those belts, too!

I was such a prep.

Interesting.

I am feeling the same way.

I just read a fascinating book about marketing to childrend (teens/tweens) and when it started.

There was a trend in the early 80's, which then exploded in the late 80's -90's. Brand identification was a big thing, which then became a huge deal. Suddenly in the mid 809's-90's, there were so many outlets to advertise for children.

I read this fascinating book about children and the effects of advertising on them. -- Ever see a 2 year old know what McDonalds is? --I have.

Well in public school like grade 6 7 and 8 it was Jordache jeans and Nike runners. Come HS it was Polo Kettle Creek etc and for shoes it was Treetorns and BASS loafers. I also wore Timberland Goretex lined deck shoes. As for jackets and coats it was Sun Ice or Far West or Banff Designs. Yes my sister and I were spoiled when we were younger. Now Nana just spoils the grandkids.

I was devastated when Paul Harris closed. I bought all of my clothes there and had no idea of where to shop after that. I didn't like much of what I saw in other shops. Did you know that one of the VP's reopened it? I found it on the web a few months ago. There are not that many stores but you can shop thru their site. Hmmm, I think I might go check out their site now. Thanks for reminding me. :teeth:

Yup I forgot the Adias Soccer shoes... had those!!!! :)

I remember when I first moved to the cape from western ma, I was going into HS. On the first day of 9th grade I tapered my jeans. OOPS what a mistake....it was still cool in Western MA but not so much on the Cape. I think I was labeled uncool based on that first day! :)

Born and raised in Western Mass myself.

yeah...guess we were behind the times...but at least we didn't have any regional accents! ;)

::yes:: ::yes:: OH my GOD! Here's my personal story. I have a two year old. We have been to Friendly's (a northeast thing, but a glorified ice cream parlor that is family friendly and serves food too), probably around 50 times since he was born. We have been to McD's around 4 times, all due to desperation in the car in traffic jams at inopportune times, not as a treat. What does my son ask for to go out to - McDONALD'S! I can not believe he even knew the name, let alone knew to ask for it. So I am driving my son out to my parents one day all by myself, its about a 2 hour drive, what does he ask for in the back seat - McDONALD'S! I almost drive off the road.

I can't believe this happened. I always swore my children would not eat fast food like my neices and nephews do. I never did growing up, why does he have to?

They sponsor Sesame Street, so that is one of my clues on how he knows to say it and ask for it, and seeing the signs everywhere as we do a lot of driving, but I can not fathom that these two things have brought me to this point where he knows what it is, is hooked, and loves their french fries and hamburgers, yet will not eat anything else fried. I am baffled.

Back to the topic at hand:
I forgot abou being a skier. This added a whole other level of wants to my wardobe lists each year. I had to have Spyder ski jackets, and before that CB jackets.

Oh and I too am from W. Massachusetts - way west!, and I tapered my jeans until I went to college, that's how bad I was, and that's why I loved my Guess jeans - they were tapered for me. I also did not have an accent. ;)

This thread made me smile:) We had Gap, Benetton and Esprit stores in my town (in Queens, NY.) Loved Tretorn sneekers (I played tennis), Guess, Calvin and Jordache jeans, OP, Z Cavaricci (sp?), Blucher shoes or penny loafers, Izod shirts. I still love those Bermuda bags but they are so expensive now. Swatch watches were fun. They have the stores in Las Vegas and NY.

I swore to my mom that the only jeans that fit me were Girbaud jeans.

Also wore Guess and Z Cavarici (sp?). I had a few Liz purses from the outlet mall. I never owned a pair of tennis shoes until college, but I did have my fair share of keds. Oh...I take that back...in middle school I had LA Gear shoes with the two color sparkly shoestrings! Wore Esprit stuff, too, and had the cutest little red esprit purse...I think I still have it somewhere. Also, can't forget that hideous, puffy leather jacket phase!

Had a coke shirt in 4th grade. LOL!
