what brand dry cat food do you buy?

We use a brand sold in pet stores here called Performatrin. We were using Royal Canin, but after research, this was as good for them, and cost much less. It's still pretty expensive though.
I need to figure out a new food strategy for our female cat. She is VERY overweight, and eats no more or less than our male cat and he is optimal weight. I just don't get it.
The vet did say that sometimes obesity is a result of spaying and that likely it isn't anything I am doing. Problem is I can't keep them out of each others food bowls, so switching one to weight control and keeping one on indoor cat formula likely won't be very helpful.

Sorry.. went off on a rant there!:rotfl:

We have two cats about 3 and 4 years old they are average weight. Definitely not overweight. Exclusively indoor cats. Anyways they get Purina Catchow for indoor cats.

We feed our 3 cats California Naturals Chicken & Brown Rice (dry). It's a limited antigen food, which means it has very few ingredients (basically it's chicken, brown rice, a bit of oil, and vitamins).

One of my cats is allergic to some (most) of the ingredients that are in most cat food. He can't eat corn, beef, lamb, or fish. This is the only food I've found that doesn't make him vomit and get skin rashes.

If you go this route by a small bag because I bought this for my dog thinking that he would get the best I could buy and bought a big bag and he would not eat it. 50 pounds of waste of money. He likes Purina dog chow..:confused3

After we had our male cat neutered, we noticed he began to get a little chubby. He is indoors the majority of time. We switched him to EVO Weight Management Dry Cat Food. Its main ingredients are turkey and chicken and fish and is grain-free, low carbohydrate, protein-rich dry pet food. A small bowl fills him up and we've noticed a decrease in his weight without him constantly screaming for food.

It's around $20.00 a bag, but he does eat less and the food is on a buying program- after 10 bags, the 11th is free.:)

Funny you should mention this. After posting in this thread last night I decided to start doing some internet research on cat foods and I spent at least 2 hours reading articles and learning about cat nutrition. One of the brands that came up again and again as a great food was EVO.
What I did learn, is that for my cats weight problem, it can likely be reversed with eliminating or greatly reducing dry food since it contains so many carbs, and switching to high quality natural ingredient wet food.
I will give it a shot. I've always wanted to give them the best I could afford, but I really didn't know what that was, and got so much conflicting advice from the vet and the pet store.
Going to try Blue Buffalo or EVO and see how they do:)

I use Iams and my almost 1 yr old cat is not overweight. I am able to get any kind of Iams food free, so that's mostly why I choose the brand, but I think it's great for cats.

We feed my cat Taste of the wild. Its a little more expensive than the purina cat show he was eating... but his health is improved by eating the better stuff.

We use Before Grain or Blue Buffalo for dry and wet food. Our one cat is very finicky and does not like wet food at all so our costs/month work out pretty much the same.

I feed my cat a mixed diet of wet and dry. For dry I use Natural Balance Ultra Premium. For the canned food, she used to eat Wellness, Natural Balance, Evo, etc. but ever since she got sick last March (and we never did figure out what she had or what caused her illness), she won't really eat canned food other than Fancy Feast. :headache: I stick to the ones that don't have gluten and are lower in carbs, but still I HATE feeding that to her. :sad2:

I try to feed my cats a gluten free/grain free diet as much as possible. Of course cats love Purina/Friskees/Fancy Feast....it is like McDonalds for cats.

I definitely think all wet is the best. We however have to do 1/2 wet and 1/2 dry. My one cat after extensive testing was determined to be allergic to pretty much everything. She has a very sensitive stomach so feeding her is a struggle as she won't eat most foods and won't eat the same "safe" food twice in a row. Several of the Wellness wet brands are safe for her as is the one Wellness Dry food. I also found a Natural Balance dry flavor that is safe for her.

My other cat will eat garbage if she could. Right now she is eating the Natural Balance dry food that is safe for the other one. My dog eats that brand as well. I find it to be a good, middle of the road brand for price and quality. I feed this cat Authority (PetSmarts house brand) wet food. The Pate's are pretty good quality (more fillers are in the flaked and gravy so I don't buy those) and you can't beat the price.

I do read EVERY label before I give them something as the formulas do change.

If you go to a pet store, ask for a few samples of the EVO or the Blue Buffalo- My cat is not picky, but I know many are :)

For wet food, Trader Joe's has some good stuff that my cat devours and it's not too bad on the budget.

My cat is free-fed Iams and she is still normal weight. :)

Iams is all I've ever fed my cats. :)

Ours get Purina Indoor Formula. My 10 year old cat will not touch wet food - when he had a upper respiratory infection in 2010 and we had to feed him high-calorie wet food to get nutrition into him (cats won't eat if they can't smell) I had to water it down into a slurry and force-feed it to him in a medicine syringe.

He also hates tuna and all people food. He is WEIRD.

I feed my 3 kittens a combination of grain free wet and dry food. I do a mix of EVO and Blue Buffalo and cans of Weruva. They are healthy, lean and their coats are absolutely gorgeous.

Our cat likes Purina Cat Chow Healthful Life -- it was hard to find one that she would eat. She's been on this for almost a year now and is at a healthy weight.

All the research I've done for my overweight kitty has lead me to an all wet/grain free diet. My cats have never been fond of wet so I gradually switched them from dry Iams indoor weight control to EVO dry weight control. I'm trying the wet from EVO but they're not crazy about it.

Our cat is so picky. We feed her Iams Healthy Naturals and she eats it without putting her nose up, lol. She does really well on it and doesn't throw up as much as she used to on other brands. We also have to be very careful of not buying food with red dye in it because when she throws up hairballs (which is often) it will stain the carpet.
She also does not like wet food except Fancy Feast. I really don't like buying it for her because even opening up the tiniest cans of it she only eats a few bites, lol...what is wrong with her?? She also will not eat human food at all, which I guess is a good thing.

Oh and she is of a normal weight and has never had a weight problem so I guess her finicky behavior does help somewhat.

Her name is Princess and she sure lives up to the title! :rotfl:

When one of our 3 cats became a little overweight we started buying Max Cat Weight Control Roasted Chicken flavor by Nutro. It's says it's for overweight, less active adults. They are active indoor/outdoor cats and they all like it. They also get fancy feast for wet food. Max cat is available at pet supply stores as well at Petco. It's also on sale once in a while which makes it an even better deal.
