I'm having a hard time finding books that my mature DS13 likes. He loved Harry Potter and doesn't think any other books can compare. I asked for suggestions here a few months ago and got him several of the ones people reccommended, but he thought they were too childish.

At 13 my son was into Michael Crichton Favorite one was the Andromeda Strain.
He also like some older Steven King stuff.

My son also like The Andromeda Strain. He would also hate for me to admit this but he LOVED the Twilight books.

My DS15 enjoyed the Twilight series, the Inheritance series (Eragon, Elder, Brisnger) by Christopher Paolini, the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan, the Vampire books by Anne Rice, and some Stephen King stuff.

My hubby loves Harry potter and sci-fi fantasy (he's still a teenager at heart).

Terry Brooks would be good and perhaps something your son might enjoy.

My 14 year old liked the Pendragon series, The Lightening Thief series by Rick Riordan (I think) and The Sea of Trolls series by Nancy Farmer.

My boys pretty much just started reading adult fiction once they hit the teen years. They like action thriller type drama. James Rollins, Michael Connelly, Lee Child - they both liked the Hunger Games.

At that age, I (okay, not a boy) was reading adult science fiction and fantasy... David Eddings and Charles de Lint were two of my favorite authors.

My DS8 is currently enamored of Dean Lorey's Nightmare Academy series. But that may be too young for your DS.

Thirteen is ready to explore adult books. My ds 14 likes Stephen King, Dan Brown, and Dean Koontz. In the kid genre, he liked Artimis Fowel books, Harry Potter, Charlie Bone but that was a couple years ago. A trilogy by the author Ted Dekker- Black, White and Red are the three books, not kid books but he loved them. Also he loved the Twilight series.

Sounds to me like your son should start exploring some adult books.

The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks

(i've plugged this book TWICE on here today. When do i get my royalties? :cool2:)

My oldest liked to read Dan Brown and Vince Flynn at that age. He just finished reading all the Tom Clancy books. He is anxiously waiting to read the latest Dan Brown book but I won't let him until next week when he has 2 days off of school-otherwise he won't do his homework.

My DS is 14, he's into John Grisham and Tom Clancy....
He also like the "Bourne" series...Im not sure who writes those

David Gemmel has a couple of good series out there if he likes sci-fantasy try Waylander or Legend. These are more "adult" similar to Conan but they are very good.

I'll second David Eddings!
And add Orson Scott Card - I especially liked the Alvin the Maker series.

Has he tried the classics such as Swiss Family Robinson, Robinson Caruso, Treasure Island? They are wonderful books full of adventure.

Has he read some of the classics, like Catcher in the Rye? If he did, and liked it, I would also recommend Rats Saw God. It is a very similar story of growing up.

I was hooked on Stephen King around that age. Some parents may find the material inappropriate for teenagers however.

My 13yodd is reading the DARK TOWER series before she reads the other books.

Her uncle is a Stephen King superfan and he insisted she read it before starting any of his other books.:lmao:
