What bags do your children take to the park?

Spin off from your bag--- I have a bagallini for me, hoping I can get by without a diaper bag now that 2yr old is 98% potty trained, I am pretty sure I can get a change of clothes in there along with sunscreen, etc...

But I am looking for something light DD can carry for her sunglasses, chap stick, her camera, maybe her DS, gum, hat and lanyard when she takes them off.... etc. She's 9 1/2, and VERY petite, less than 50 inches and less than 55 pounds. I am looking at the Vera mini-hipster... would that work for her? I had thought about her carrying the drawstring backpack style, she has several of those, but not sure about the comfort?? She would love a new Vera, but will it be too long? It says the strap is 59 1/4', that's longer than she is!

Thanks!

Why not get her a camera case and she can put chapstick and gum a nd have her wesr her hat and sunglass.Buy her a string that goes on sunglass so if she doesnt wqant to wear them she can have them hunging down this way wont have to worry about her losing sunglasses and also leave DS at hotel

To be honest, I'd be prepared to carry her stuff for her - The bag you are thinking of buying her sounds cute and easy to tote, but I'd save the money and either buy something there (for more money and maybe not as cute) or just lug her stuff along with your 2 year olds stuff.

The last time we went to WDW my dd's were 6 and 7. They each had a small waistpack that I ordered off of ebay for kids. They loved them. This summer we are going to a longer period of time and my older dd who will be close to 10 and the other will be 8. The 10 year old probably wouldn't be caught dead with princesses on her bag (which is what the old fanny pack had) they are more Hannah Montana and Zack and Cody gals now. So I purchased VB mini hipsters (you can tie a knot at the top to adjust the length) and I also purchased drawstring backpacks from Children's place. I am hoping that those will suffice. They each carried, last time, pipe cleaners to "create" things while waiting in line, stickers, chapstick, sunglasses (though I think I purchased the holders that go around the neck for those) and their own snacks and gum that they picked out of a box every morning. I held small water bottles for both.

We used waist packs for the kids too.

My kids have been carrying around their stuff for quite awhile now. They used fanny packs when they were younger, about 3 and 5. The DS, now 16, just uses his pockets now. My DD, now 14, uses a small messenger bag, just like mine. :goodvibes (I always envisioned that my daughter wouldn't want to be like me at her age.)

This is their first trip, but they each (11 & 8 1/2 years old) have their own camelbak mini-mule that will carry their water and have an area for a few other things.

When I went to the parks as a young-un, I had a minnie mouse fanny pack that I wore at all times. I loved it so much! It was bright pink, had Minnie on the front, and a turquoise strap. You'd never believe how much stuff fits in those things!
I would carry my sunglasses, my little wallet, park maps, tissues, napkins, chap stick, a camera, and anything else my family couldn't carry in their bags! It was so awesome! We still call it "the bottomless fanny pack"
Now it's hanging in my room, because it doesn't fit around me anymore... :sad1:

Another helpful thing about fanny packs-- I put all my pins right on the front of it! I didn't like having anything around my neck, so it was a perfect way to display them all!

So, in my opinion, just buying them a bag right in the World is the best way to go!

I got my DS 13 a SwissGear sling bag from Target (about $20). I've always been the pack mule for the family, but he's quite big enough to carry his own stuff -- he had his lanyard, camera, snacks, glasses cleaners, etc. in there. He liked the feel of the bag -- it was big enough to carry his stuff, but not too big. (I carried a SwissGear small carry-on as well -- that worked well for me.)

I have 2 DDs - 6 and 9. They carry their own purses that they wear across their bodies (like messenge bags). They are small pink shoulder bags that hold maps, chapstick, cameras, and small activities to keep them occupied (like pipe cleaners). They use the straps for pins, and have caribiners on them to clip their hats to when they go on rides.

They've been using them for the past 3 years and love them - it makes them feel like big girls. I like them better than back packs because they can access their stuff without having to remove the bags. I also prefer them to waist packs because the purses don't intefere with ride seat belts or safety bars. Waist packs can also be tricky for kids when they go to the bathroom.

I tied knots in the straps to shorten them to the right size for my girls. As they got bigger, I moved the knot. Hope this helps.

I bought a Vera mini hipster for my DD because they have retired colors for $16. As far as the length you can tie a knot in the strap and make it the perfect size!

my sister says my niece ( 9 1/2 years old) wants a bag to carry. I asked about a waistpack and she says she would probably NOT want one. I said to check for maybe a mini backpack or something @ TJ Maxx. Problem is, every TJ Maxx is different for the items they carry.

Mine doesn't get anything. We did a practice run when we went to the GA Aquarium and she kept playing with the tiny purse I loaned her. It was an adult purse and I'd used it several times so I know it was fine. She broke it about half way through and I ended up having to carry it under my arm.

So I decided I'll carry her stuff for her for our June trip and we'll try again on our next trip in 2 or 3 years.

I got DD11 a waistpack for our upcoming trip - it can comfortably hold a camera, chap stick, gum and a phone. After we "discovered" that we could simply ask for water at the CS places, we decided that we will never again tote around a water bottle in the parks.

If your kids have trouble with waist packs in the bathroom, simply have them turn the bag around so that the "pouch" part is at their back and out of the way of zippers and drawstrings!
