We need to buy some sunscreen for our 7 month old DS. What brand has worked well for your infant?

It's been quite a few years since ds was an infant, but I always used Neutrogena baby sunblock on him without any problems. I have really sensitive skin myself and still use it to this day. :)

Coppertone WaterBabies. In fact I am now using the grocery store WaterBabies knockoff, and that works fine too.

It's definitely not cheap, but I use Kiehl's sunscreen for children on my DS. I've also used L'Oreal Ombrelle, but I've read that the Parsol sunscreen in it may not be very stable.

We also use a no frills brand (SPF30 or higher). We've never had a problem.

I use bannana boat spf 50 for babies. It goes on like paste - very thick but protects really well and doesn't wife off quite as easily;)

HTH's some:wave:

Since your baby is so young, you should try to minimize the amount of sunscreen. My ped advises nothing more than a 30. You can always reapply. My personal favorites are the Banana Boat products. Never any tears with those. IMO NEVER use waterbabies. It causes extreme eye irritation if it gets in the eyes. My friend who teaches swimming at the Y says they have problems all the time where they are having to flush out babies eyes after the mom's apply Waterbabies and then they rub it in their eyes.

If you're going to be outside A lot with your baby, I'd recommend one of these: http://www.sun-chasers.com/infants.htm

We bought one before taking DS on a cruise when he was 9mo. Have used it with youngest DD as well. Very nice product.

I've used Waterbabies 45spf on both my girls. I never had any problems with either of them. My oldest has always had sensitive skin and she has never had a problem with it.

I also use Kiehl's for both of my boys- ages 2 and 9 mos. I wouldn't use anything else. It's not cheap, but it's not outrageous. I LOVE Kiehl's skin care products!

We use the Banana Boat Babies. It has Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide with are "sunblocks" not "sunscreens". They start protecting imediately whereas the sunscreens dont start for 20-30 minutes after the application. Also, it is what our pediatrition recommended. They have worked very well for us. We have also tried the Avon sunscreen with the bug guard in it. Great for the outdoor adventures and you only have to lather them once. But I dont think I would use this on an infant.

Water Babies is good and I think that's what we used on DS when he was 6 mos.+

Now we use Ocean Potion, SPF 50.

Whatever you use, unless your pediatrician tells you otherwise, you should look for something with Zinc Oxide or Parsol/Avobenzene in it. Those are the best sunscreens available.

Good luck!

Boy, I have to agree with this! I had some water babies that I put on my daughter and I put it on me too, including my face. I will NEVER do that again! After I got in the water some got in one of my eyes and it was horrible pain! My eye puffed up...it was terrible. Now I always use something else near my face. I'm just thankful that it happened to me and not my daughter! Banana Boat works well and is cheap and because it is thicker, I don't think it is as likely to get in your eyes with water or sweat.

They make some just for the face. Have you tried it? I never have, but I would think it would be more gentle.

I actually have one of those little sticks for their face - it's like a glue stick only it's sunblock. It's much easier to apply without having to worry about smearing it in my dd's eyes since she wiggles so much while I put it on. The one I use is called B a b y B l a n k e t Sunscreen Stick for Babies. It's spf45 and says Zinc oxide / formula Great for tender spots - ears, nose,& chubby cheeks:D I bought it at Wal-Mart and use that in addition to the Bannana boat for babies spf50;)

My Ped recommended water babies for DD#2 when we were going to the beach at 4 months (all sunscreens say consult a phys. before using on babies under 6 months), we also use the face stick by water babies without problems (it does look like a glue stick) but we have had problems with the lotion before around eyes so we stick with the stick  I am interested in Bull Frog, I haven't used it since I was a teen, but the Baby lotion sounds great! Thanks OP for the origional post there are alot of great suggestions/information here!
