What arguments did you use to convince spouse?

I visited the DVC store front on Main Street while my husband and boys were at a water park. I took the tour the same afternoon and fairly sure it was right for our family.

The problem was that we were leaving the following morning. The only time to have my husband see the models and talk to the guide was before two hours before we left for our cruise. Poor timing I know...

He went, somewhat unwillingly and listened. He agreed it did look good but was not in the financial picture for us at that time.
I was disappointed but had him promise that when the money was there we would buy DVC.

We came home and he found the DIS boards for me and I found out about resales. A year later the financial picture did change and we bought a resale.

To recap how not to do it...
1. Be uninformed
2. Be rushed
3. Be pushy

May you be wiser than I was.

At first I didn't want DVC, thought it was too expensive. I'm the Disney nut, husband is not, no kids. I have a certain amount of money from each paycheck direct deposited to savings for vacations. I realized I wouldn't be "spending" any MORE money to buy DVC than I was currently spending on hotels for vacations. The DVC payment could come out of the money I put in savings, and when we went on trips, I wouldn't have a hotel bill. Same thing in the long run.

We cruised on points in 2001 and husband finally sat through a DVC presentation on the cruise. HE decided we needed to add on 100 points at Wilderness Lodge!

It took me 2 years to convince DH that DVC was right for us.

We already own with Marriott so the timesharing aspect wasn't the issue. DH felt we already had too many timeshares, and he thought we wouldn't want to go to WDW all the time.

Well, I read this board over and over and was armed with all the ammo I needed...numbers, calculations, ability to rent points, etc. etc. and still he wouldn't budge.

Then, November 2003, our little princess: was born. That did it :teeth: I guess DH could see himself taking his beautiful baby girl to WDW for years to come. That and the fact that everytime we asked our boys ( 8 & 6 ) where they wanted to go and they answered WDW.

Secret weapon.....beautiful babies!

Good Luck!

I booked a 2 bedroom villa at OKW (on cash, rack 479, got code for 289 per night)... after being there 15 minutes my DH said yes. ::yes::

I fortunately had an easy time convincing my wife since she loved the idea. The issue for us was money. Could we handle the payments? We got around that and now we are very happy. The big sale for us was that if was forced us to put money away for vacations which is a VERY important thing for me. No we can plan vacations and depending on the situation the length of the trip and the room we stay in can change. That was not an option before.
