What are your Valentine's Day Plans ?

I absolutely hate it - it's DH's Birthday the day before and not only do I find it near impossible to find him a decent Birthday card (because, of course, people don't have Birthdays around Valentine's Day  ) but if we want to go out for a meal, we end up paying over-inflated prices.

The in-laws are arriving on Friday so DH and I will go to the cinema on Friday night, I will cook us a nice meal on Saturday while the in-laws are at a wedding and, on Sunday, they are taking us out for lunch. No over-inflated prices for us this year :thumbsup2

Another one here that hates Valentines Day, Im sure if I was with someone I might feel different, but even when I was married we only exchanged cards. Total rip off day in my opinion, but then I dont like Christmas either as I feel the same about that-Shh dont tell Mandy;)

I am subscribing so I can read y'all's responses later since I have to get on with today's business. I will say that I like the idea of Valentine's Day. That in itself is pretty sweet. The reality is that it often causes greed and disappointment in women and guilt and resentment in men. I do realize that that sounds very sexist, but that doesn't mean that it can't be true.

We dont go in for Valentines day much - porr DH goes into meltdown at this time of year.

He has just got the trauma of buying me a Christmas pressie when my birthday comes along, a week after is Valentines, 3 weeks after is our wedding ann and then Mothers day :rotfl:

If I get a card I am delighted ;) and the years I dont expect anything he surprises me :lovestruc

We usually get each other a few little things and a card that adds up to too much money (you're right about the florists, Mandy. It's so cheeky).
So, this year Richard has said I can get a few charms for my Pandora, fine by me:goodvibes I'll get hime a jokey card and pressie from the girls.

I agree Susan, I see it with other couples mine and Steve's age especially.

We send each other a card and have done presents and a meal out (the week before ;) and not that we ever need an excuse to do this anyway..!) in the past but we've agreed not to bother with presents this year, saving hard for October. But yes we went for our meal last weekend!
When I was with my ex for our last Valentines day together he bought me a single red rose... 5 days earlier! And yes he still gave it to me on the 14th :rotfl: Quite symbolic really!!

That is so true. My birthday is 2 days before Valentines and DH has to buy my Birthday card in January otherwise the selection is dire! And we can never go for a birthday meal or weekend away as the prices are all hiked up, and in a word I'm just too mean to pay it.

For Valentines Day this year (romantic little soul that I am  ), I am leaving DH at home with the two kids while I go to Cardiff to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday, and watch the Wales / England game in a pub somewhere! If I had known Ant and Dec were back on TV though, I might have changed my plans..!

Sara. :)

We haven't done Valentines Day for years now. I hate the commercialism of it all. We will be staying in with a takeaway and watching a dvd :cloud9:

We found a perfect card a few years ago and now we just give it to each other every year!

It has a little Mickey and Minnie on it and it says on the outside 'we're good together' and on the inside it says 'and we look cute, too!' :rotfl2:

Since we moved to Lincolnshire we have been going out on Valentines day to the Village restaurant (Just won the best Restaurant in Lincolnshire award) as they always do a good evening. Flowers are usually a big no no because of the price but Daffodils from the market are often on the agenda!

well DH always gets me flowers ,safe bet
and if he is not working we go out for a nice meal

but he's working this year so we'll make it another night instead

Hope everyone has a nice Valentine

We're not into it either.....

Yesterday we were in town and all the shops had valentines displays. I don't know why but I gave him a kiss and he said ' what's that for?' (in a nice way). So I said, ' well it's almost valentines day isn't it?' His reply: You mean I have to kiss you again this week :)) !

Having said that we send each other cards and take each other out when we can, makes much more sense to us!

We don't bother now, used to in the early days. However, in the last year I have got really into cooking new recipes everyday so decided at the beginning of the year, once a month to do a 3 course meal so have picked Valentine's Day to be the first. I usually just cook a new main meal so wanted to try starters and desserts once a month. The hubbie doesn't know so it will be a surprise to him and our lads as they will be there too.:)
