What are your travel pet peeves?

Sleepy! I love the idea and will put it to good use this weekend and in November. In fact I love everyone's ideas. So far I have only really encountered nice travellers but I do hate waiting to get off of the plane. I am one who generally waits until everyone gets by before getting my stuff....mainly because of the trouble it takes to get it down....but if you are near the back of the plane it can take ages to get off!!! What on earth are those people near the exit doing to make the wait so freakin' long???? Get your bags and get off so I can do the same!!! I don't really mind the crying babies. I mean no matter what they try a parent cannot control whether a baby feels like crying or not. And it is unsettling to see a baby on someone's lap when the parents are nicely buckled in. I know most flights are generally smooth but one bad pocket of turbulance and you could have one badly injured child ( or adult, depending on who isn't buckled in) Still, I can't complain too much.....look at how many kids aren't in the proper restraints for their age/size in motor vehicles!!! That really gets me!!!

... they were filing lots of worker's comp claims for back injuries, so most of the airlines decided that telling them they didn't have to lift luggage was a good concession to give. (Most FA comp claims are for injuries caused by food carts, I guess that's another way SWA keeps costs down! ;)) My personal belief is that it is only polite for passengers with items in the overhead bins to let passengers with no bags to retrieve off the plane first. I don't go into the bin until the area around me is clear (and yes, I do stand on the seat!)

When I travel with my family, I always wait until everyone else deplanes before I even stand up. We have a 4 year old and always have a couple of extra bags. I always find it funny to see everyone in such a hurry to get off the plane. Reaching for bags , pushing and shoving and such and then meeting up with them again at the baggage claim after I leisurely exited the aircraft and made my way to baggage claim. I understand why people who have to make connections are in a hurry to get off the plane, but when you have checked your luggage and need to claim it, no matter how fast you get off the plane, you are not going to get out of the airport any faster than the person who takes their time.

nope they are still to assist you if you need help. thats part of their job. the bags needed to help lift are under 45 lbs. or at least this is what they are supposed to be. this is on usair so some of the other carriers might be different. believe it or not most of the comp injuries are for carpel tunnel from opening pop cans............

I am suprised no one else has my pet peeve.

Moving conveyor sidewalks and people who block them. I have always been taught that a moving sidewalk is not a "lazy man's ride". You are supposed to walk also. If you can't or won't walk, please stay to the right side so that people who are walking can get by. And yes, I do walk on escalators too. I guess I'm always trying to get somewhere quickly. So much to do - so little time!

tarmand - that's a good one. I always try to stay to the right on the sidewalk because I'm usually trying to catch a break from carrying my bags (some moving sidewalks actually have signs recommending this), but I see people trying to stand side-by-side with their traveling companions all the time, sign or not. It's kind of like the huge groups who feel the need to walk side-by-side down a side walk or through a mall, taking up the entire width of the walkway, even though there's someone approaching them, who will have to walk in the street if they don't move a bit. Do they move? NOOOOOO.

You know that moving sidewalk, conveyer thing bugs the heck out of me too but......it bugs me the most at the very end of Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom. If people would either move or stay to one side I could get out of the exit and onto other things that much quicker!!!;)

Beverly- That might be with US, but I am almost certain that some combination two of AA, DL, CO or UA have in their union contracts that they do not have to assist if they don't want to. In thinking about the carriers I fly, I can make a safe assumption that CO is one of them. My last few lights on CO they didn't seem to want to offer much help, other than pointing out open space.

I won't fly Untied (Thank GOD your merger didn't go through--what would I have done with 150k in ff miles??) so I can't comment on them. On a recent AA flight, as I was checking in, I saw the ticket counter agents refuse to move two bags that were well over 75 lbs. I don't know what people could pack that would weight that much! The agents required the pax to put the bags onto the conveyor belt behind the desk, it took two people to move them. Personally that screams take your stuff to air cargo or PDQ/Dash to me :-)

I'm flying US in 9 days. According to the US website, my flights in both directions are "sold out". I'll use it to my advantage though...I don't have to be on those flights. Loving the thought of an upgrade and voucher ;-)

Oh YES! The people who park on the moving walk ways!! I have no problem with people who choose to stand rather than walk. What I do have a problem with are the people who make nasty comments and give you rude looks when you politely say "excuse me" so you can pass on the left. Duh!
