Is it worth renting? buying??

My SIL and her family are going about a month before us...is there any value in having her get one for my 4 yr old so he can have it ahead of time and then take it with us?

DD and DS really enjoyed our Pal Mickey. We bought him as I'm not sure a 4 yr old would like to hand him back at the end of the trip. If you are unsure you can always rent and if you decide to buy you can apply your rental to the purchase (they give you a new one, I believe)
It would be kind of fun to have him prior, to learn the games and hear the jokes. It'll probably really surprise your DS once you get to WDW and PM starts saying all kinds of different things.

I have not done or plan to do either.

I wish they would have put that much thought and energy into doing something with 20K Lagoon or updating Star Tours or starting BK or. . . . . . . . . . .

I've been giving this quite a bit of thought and I think my 3 year old would get a kick out of it. I just read an article that says it updates Mickey's info upon going through the turnstyles, so unless they discontinue the pal mickey program, it would be good for years to come. I think we might do it.

We bought My PM in June under the pretense that it was for my 5YO but really I just wanted it. :) Anyway, here's my take. My son did get tired of it. So we hung it on him with the clip. Well, the problem with that is that you can't really hear it, even when it does vibrate unless you unclip it and hold it to your ear. Finally, I just carried him so I could feel it vibrate and then I would hold it up to my ear. I then would share what he said with my family. If they wanted to hear, you can press his hand again and he will say the same thing.

It is very difficult to hear unless you have it close to your head - especially in the MK. We didn't play many games, but I suppose as DS gets older, he would enjoy the games while waiting in line. I guess we will see in years to come!

I'm getting two--one for my nephew and one for me. I'm taking the advice of other posters who say it is best to keep him on a bottle strap so he can be safe and heard.

Well, duh! I never thought of putting him on a bottle strap! That way I could pull him up to hear him! Thanks for the idea!

They have there reasons for PM. The sensors around the park that trigger PM to say different things keep track of where each PM is. Disney is using it to track how people move through the park. Clever....

I tought after a while it got anowing but it is quit informative some of the jokes arne't the best but for a younger child I would say they would like it very much. After you listen to so many jokes you can play a game. :D

It is almost like..."Big Brother is watching you". Oh well, I know I will get suckered into buying 1 on our next trip. By the way, that was a great tip...using a waterbottle strap!:D

He sounds fun to me - I can't wait to get my DS6 one when we go !! Of course he WILL have to share with me too :jester:

Hi! Definitely read the "Cassie ~ Live" Trip Reports that have been posted over the past couple of weeks on the Trip Reports Board. She got one for her DD age 9 and had it waiting in their room - she gives lots of examples of what he says and sounds like they're really enjoying him...I'm going to have one waiting for DD age 7 for our trip in October - can't wait!!

johnsonet -

Thanks for the tip - I'll look for her posts.

I think I may get one before our Oct. trip - our son's b-day is in Sept. so maybe that would be a good gift!!
