What are your rules on life?

As a parent-"Never make a promise you can't keep and never make a threat you can't or won't carry out."

My parents were both teachers, and as an adult, so was I, so this rule also applied to the classroom.

Pray.

Be faithful.

Be grateful.

Love big & wide & carefully & tenderly & passionately & wildly.

Forgive.

Be kind. Be considerate. Be gracious. Be civil.

Wait your turn - the world has never revolved & will never revolve around you.

Life’s not fair - Fair is a place where pigs go to get ribbons.

Be humble. Be honest. Be honorable. Be hardworkIng.

You reap what you sow.

Save it for a rainy day. But, if you need it for a sunny day instead, that’s okay.

Do the right thing - even when no one’s looking.

Keep going. Never give up. If you don‘t know what to do, just do the next thing.

But rest too.

Laugh. Cry. Feel. Taste. Sing. Dance.

Be present.

Eat the chocolate. Buy the shoes. Use the good china. Take the trip.

Have adventures. And drive with the windows down & the radio up.

Stand by the ocean & let your feet sink into the sand. Breathe in the salt air.

Don’t take more than your share, &, sometimes, take less than your share.

Hold the door for others - both literally & figuratively.

Be the person you needed when you were younger.

Be loyal.

Notice others. Stand up for others. Watch out for others.

Be a light.

Look for the good. And, if you can’t find the good, be the good.

Look for the whimsical & notice the magic of every-day life..

It’s not a dandelion - It’s a million wishes.

Remember where you came from & whose you are.

Respect & appreciate & honor tradition. But don’t be afraid of change.

Know when to hold ’em, when to fold ‘em, & when to just walk away.

There will be times when you need to use your voice & times when you need to be silent. Know when.

Be curious. Ask questions. Never stop learning.

Have fun. Be silly. Never take yourself too seriously.

Do your best, & forget the rest.

If you’re going to do something, you might as well do it well.

It’s all in the details.

Don‘t let the opportunity or the moment pass you by. Because, this too will pass… sometimes, that’s a good thing, but, sometimes, that’s a bad thing.

There are other ways besides your way. Listen.

Everyone has a journey. When needed, walk someone home.

Enjoy your journey & all the little moments - take it all in & breathe it all out.

To thine own self be true.

Leave a place better than you found it.

Life is short & precious & tragic & beautiful.

Make good memories.
