Let's See UPDATES!!!!!!!!

6 months down..... 6 to go!!!!!

So have you been sticking to your photography plans so far????

And if you're new to the forum, or just plain didn't post; let us know what you've been up to anyway. Or what you plan to do for the rest of the year.

************************************************************************

Just wondering what everyone has planned for the new year...... getting new gear??? ...taking a special photo trip???? ....or even to just get better????

I think I might do a 365 Project on Flickr. It'll be Disney of course, but I'll just try to post a new pic everyday. I don't see visiting Disney everyday to take new pics, working out too well. And I'm gonna focus on the "people" of Disney; i.e. regular Cast Members, guests, and some street performers. Absolutely no Disney character pics, unless they have the previously mentioned subjects as the main focus. I'm just trying to look for something different to shoot at Disney. I'm constantly there, so it'll be nice to sort of shoot something different for a change.

Great topic.
I am planning on getting a Nikon d90, which will be a huge upgrade from my d60. I then plan on starting a small photography business where I live. Another trip to WDW in September will be a photo highlight, as I will have my d90 for that trip. I also plan on getting some older lenses that will work with the d90.
Dang, that's a lot. I better get to work!

Planning on learning a lot more about my new camera (T1i) and learning more about photography in general. I am a complete newb to this.

I plan on using my camera more for enjoyment. It seems like the vast majority of my '09 pics are events, holidays, birthdays, etc. and not much just going out to take pics. Even on our Thanksgiving trip to WDW, I never spent more than 10 seconds planning a shot :sad2:. We did get our season passes though, so I am going to try to get a weekend or something where I can concentrate more on shooting pics. :thumbsup2

Planning to learn about flash/lighting! Just ordered a Speedlight SB-600.

At some point I'll also be upgrading from a D60 to a D90.

I recently purchased all new 2.8 lenses covering a range from 24-300mm. My goal this coming year is to learn as much as possible before our June, 2010 WDW trip. I plan on taking some time during the trip to just photograph. Hopefully, by then, I will have the nuances of these new lenses so I can continue my auto racing photography.

DH bought me a speedlight (for my birthday in September) that I'm struggling to learn how to use. I plan on learning how to become much better at lighting.

Try a learn more about my camera and take it off of auto, play with the new stuff and old stuff I have for the camera.Just all around take pictures and try and find out what I like to take pictures of.And not stress over the picture I missed

I want to improve on shooting indoor sports. I wish I could find a local instructor to help me with ways to improve. I would also like to take a class on photo editing so I can learn some of the cool tricks I see on here.

In 2010 I want a D3s - which will be my next purchase. :) And I'm curious if there will be an announced upgrade to a D4; in which case I'll be on the waiting list for that. :)

But more over, my goal in 2010 is to be more consistent more of the time, incorporate more complex lighting schemes in my shooting, and refine my shooting process time a little more. I love shooting after-hours and at night... so I hope to incorporate more night time shooting and ideas over the year.

Lastly, my weakness is a true type of photojournalism. Very few people are truly skilled at PJ-style shooting and I definitely want to be better at it - which means studying what I like and what I don't like, and then making it work for me better. I love manipulation of light, and that is my weakness in PJ, I can't control my lighting, so I want to learn to shoot under the gun, read the light, and still produce good work.

You guys taught me a lot this year. Now that I'm moving out of the automatic modes on my Xsi, I need to keep practicing. I feel like you guys made some light bulbs go off in my head this year! Thank you so much!

My equipment goal is to find a way to get the Tokina 11-16 before my Christmas trip next December!

No huge plans... it's actually nice to think about though- kind of like a New Years Photography Resolution for me!

I NEED to learn about lighting- I have a $420 flash I NEVER use! I want to learn how to use it right, and maybe a little about portraiture.

Set plans right now only include trips to florida (destin), Disney and a ski resort where I plan to take a lot of pictures. Also attending a Rocky Mountain School of Photography weekend seminar coming up in January.

The goal is to save up enough money to buy the Canon 24-105 f/4L before the end of the year!

Great topic-

For 2010 I had been thinking about doing a 365 day project but I don't shoot every day and don't want to get into feeling like I have to take a shot of *something* every day- so I might just do a 52 week project with a shot a week- probably more my speed.

Also looking forward to 'Girls Weekend' next summer. This year I took a 3-day solo photography trip to New Orleans while the wife and daughters did their girly family thing. I might go back to NO or might just see where else interesting I can get a cheap flight to- just waiting for them to pin down the dates so I can start planning.

And I am also planning on unloading some gear that I don't use or don't like using all that much anymore. And I might pick up another 70-300vr since my longest lens right now is 180mm.

That's a great idea! My friend had started the 365 day project but he also had trouble keeping up. I didn't want it to feel like a chore so I just didn't do it. I did like that it forced you to keep up and use your camera more. I might try doing the 52 week project now, thanks for the idea :goodvibes

Great idea for a thread. I agree that doing a 365 project for me just seemed impossible---but I like the idea of a 52 week project a lot. :thumbsup2

Photography is something that I enjoy and I take out my camera when I feel like shooting something, so the thought of having to take a picture of something crappy every day just sounds like a headache. Heck, I didn't even take one picture at Christmas. :scared1: I was on a break, after vacation, funerals, getting caught back up at work---I just needed to sit down and relax.

Where were we? Oh yeah, getting to the point. My goals for this year are:

1. To use my tripod more (especially if I get a better ballhead). I would like to practice night shooting and do more bracketed sets of shots to see if HDR is something I'd like to get into.

2. Thanks to Jeff (Groucho), I'm also currently on a 12-step program for vignetteaholics. I found that for my trip in October, I added one to like 75% of my shots, which ended up being overdone and unnecessary. Now, I'm trying to use them sparingly and only where I think they'll really add something to the shot.

3. Get better at PP. This would include watching some tutorials on YouTube and actually reading my "Missing Manual" for for PSE. I am ashamed to admit it, but I just learned how to dodge and burn this weekend. :guilty: It made me realize how much better I could make some of the shots I'm not thrilled with, so I'm determined to figure some more stuff out.

HAPPY 2010 EVERYONE!! :cheer2:

My plans are to improve my photography by reading, practicing, and paying more attention to the light, but not by buying more equipment. Of course I will buy equipment since it is fun, I just don't expect it to improve my photography. ;) My plans also include getting out in more bad weather since that is when some of the best photo opportunities (and some of the best lighting) appear.

Good subject to think about. It's been on the fringe for me, so it's helpful to write out.

Believe it or not, out of the blue, friends of friends have asked me to run a photography class for them. I mean, these are people who literally said they want to know "how to turn their cameras on". That, I think I can handle. :lmao: Obviously, it'd be more than that, but quite basic, and I've already started to plan out a 2 night class, so I think it might be fun for them and for me as I enjoy teaching. My niece is planning on getting her first dSLR, too, so she wants to come as well. If it goes well, I expect that with word of mouth, it'd be a way I could earn a little extra cash for additional photography equipment.

I myself would like to concentrate a bit on my post processing skills, possibly take a class or find someone to tutor me. My only problem with classes is that, like the people I mentioned, I want to learn the basics; start me out at A, not K type of thing. That's how I learn best. I find that sometimes people running classes assume you know more than you actually know (though in my case, I suppose the opposite could be true, who knows) so that's something I'd like to do this year as well.

I've been working on quality vs quantity when I'm shooting, now that I know my camera better, which is a good thing because I'm quite far behind in my pp. There are also more techniques I'd like to learn so I can really feel that I've mastered my camera (which is a long ways off, lol.)

I also hope to keep the Monthly Assignment threads going. (Ideas are always helpful!)

Wishing all of our friends here a Happy New Year! :wizard:

My goal for this year is to learn, learn, learn, and then learn even more about taking better shots, and how to best use my camera (Nikon D5000). I'm hoping I can try and learn at least 2 or 3 things every week, and then try and put them into practice. It seems like the more I use my camera, the more questions that come up. But I also plan to have a great time during this learning process. :thumbsup2

As for special shooting plans, here in Mexico City, there really are some great places and things to shoot that are pretty close to me.
Tomorrow I think we are going down town, and I hope to get some nice shots of the downtown area.
Next week we are planning to see the butterflies in Michoacan
Some time soon, we will also get back to the floating gardens
and the pyramids
All of these things are only a couple of hours away from us. Plus Acapulco is only a few hours away, and that might also be a possibility this year.
The thing I'm the most excited about, though, is our planned trip to Disney later this year. Hopefully by then I'll have at least somewhat of an idea of what I'm doing, and will be able to get quite a few shots during that trip.
