Do you own a house/condo/townhouse
Do you rent a house/condo/townhouse

If you rent when do you plan on buying a house, that is if you want to

If you own did you rent before you bought and if so for how long?

I am on the search to buy a house..

We own our house.

Previously, I lived in my grandmother's house for two years, most of that with my DH. She refused to sell and couldn't live on her own so she moved in with my uncle and a team of nurses and I kept up her house, made small improvements and paid utilities as "rent".

We decided to buy because it was cheaper for us than rent, especially because we have pets.

Ughhh! Double posts are killing me today.

We own a house that we live in. Before we bought our first house we rented a house for a few years

We own a townhouse. We plan on living there for the next 5 years or so and then buying a single family home. I rented for 6 years before I bought. I saved up a ton of money for down payment and closing costs. I'm 30 btw.

We own a single family home and have for most of our married lives. We also own some rental property (single family).

We own (well we will in 9 years) a single family home. Before buying we rented a townhome and almost bought it but decided against it because I felt it was too much like apartment complex living.

We own our home.

We rented for one year when we first got married back in 1975, then ended up buying that house from the owner.

In 1980 we moved here, to the house where my DH grew up, and bought it from his parents. We sold our other home to his sister and her husband.

We rent and are currently saving for a house. We plan on buying within the next 18 months. It will have taken us about 6 years of serious saving to have enough for a DP.

I own my home now. I rented for 4 years total. After graduating from college I moved to FL for two years and rented a town house with a roommate. After moving back to Ohio I rented a home with two friends.

DF and I own a condo. He moved straight out of his parents house into our condo. I moved out of my parents' house into my grandma's house for about a year after my grandfather died, and then we bought the condo. :thumbsup2 We've been in our condo for about 3.5 years, and hope to stay for another 5-7 years to build up enough equity and save enough to move into a nice house.

I'm a nomad.

My mom owns her own home in Hillsboro. DFiance owns his own condo downtown Portland. Depending on where I am, that's where I live.

So I guess I should say: I don't own or rent, I just squat. :)

We rent. Real estate is far too expensive to purchase. We don't plan to live here forever anyway.

We own our home - we rented for a year after we first married, and lived in military housing for a year. Bust since that point we have always bought homes... in about 5 yrs I hope to be in a new home living in the country instead of a development!

DW and I rented an apartment up until we were married, and then purchased our own house.

I'm glad we rented first, because it gave us time to save up and we were able to get a house in a better location, than what we could have initially afforded.

We own our house, and we rented (apartments) for 3 years before we bought.

Let me tell you, even though it costs more in the long run, it is SO worth it!!!

Good luck with your search!!!

I've rented the apartment we are in now for 10 years this month. Rent has only went up $25 a month since we have lived here and is still less than most in this area. The past couple years our landlord has put on a new roof and new windows and its a brick building so my power bill is on the cheaper side. I would like to buy a 3 br house, but the apartment is still affordable even if my job situation changes and I don't have to pay property taxes or maintenance.

When first married we lived in a little house on dear IL's property free of chg. By year 3 our first bundle of joy had arrived, we'd saved money, and bought our first home.

Before long we had 3 more bundles of joy and DH built our current 2 story home in the country we've enjoyed for past 30 yrs. :goodvibes

Now that we're seniors w/an empty nest, I suspect we might down size at some point. If so, we'll sure miss this old home place full of so many happy memories. :flower3:

Good luck in your search! :goodvibes
I don't think you can go wrong with buying, our 4 kids are proud home owners. IMO it's a good investment, not to mention it's a nice write off at tax time! :thumbsup2

I sold my house to move into a better school district. Unfortunately the homes here are WAY too expensive for me. I'm renting a beautiful house 5 mins from my job and plan to stay there until Michael graduates in 2012. THEN I can buy in an area I CAN afford!! :thumbsup2
