HI DIS friends,

Here in Delaware, we only are to trick or treat between 6 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m.

I grew up in Union County, NJ and we t/t after school to 9:00 p.m.

I'm curious to read what other states in this country honor.

Please indicate your state too.

Thanks!

In Chicago the kids start early, there really is no set time. Little ones will go to the stores as early as noon. The unofficial time is usually between 4 and 8, that's when most people are home during the week.

I'm in a suburb of Pittsburgh. They posted the times as 6pm-8pm and blow the fire whistle at the beginning and the end. DH grew up in the "city" and this is his first year were we live (bought a house where I grew up), he was amazed at all the "official" vehicles riding around and giving out candy, like fire trucks, police and ambulances. Does this happen anywhere else?

Whenever we feel like starting to whenever we feel like stopping. I don't think I'd like to be told when to trick or treat!

It varies by city in VA. For Virginia Beach it is dusk until 9pm for children 12 and under.

We don't have official times. My 12yo (and yes, he did dress up) left our house at 6PM and returned at 9PM. :earseek:

We got our first trick or treaters at about 6:15 and it was real heavy until about 8PM, then some until 8:30 or so. I turned off the lights at 9PM, but we probably didn't get any after 8:45. Usually it seems to go later, but maybe it's because I sometimes forget to turn my lights off.

I don't know if we have any kind of official time, but here in my Tampa neighborhood it starts when it gets dark (about 6pm) and lasts until about 8:30.

I just like having the set times so I don't have to man the door all night long, you know?

I've never heard of an official time for trick-or-treating. I grew up in a small town outside of Dallas, and we didn't have an official time. There was some discussion one year about having kids do it on the 30th because Halloween was on a Sunday. I forget what was decided, though.

I don't think there's an official time here, either, but we don't observe Halloween, and I have to admit I simply don't pay attention to anything having to do with it. There could very well have been something about it in the paper, but I didn't notice it.

I am in Elkhart,IN. our times are 5:30 to 8. We only went for about an hour it is pouring here. DD5 said lets go home eat soup & take a bath. :) So we did.

Ours varies by town in NJ. Our town is after school until 8pm. That is a mandatory curfew for anyone under 18 on both Halloween and Mischief Night.I guess we can start whenever. The kids usually trick or treat all the way home from school.

In all my years of unbridled trick or treating I've never had anyone knocking at the door all night. Our last ToT was here at 8:30 which is usually the time everyone calls it a night.

No curfews or set times here in metro N.Y. suburbs. I had my last one tonight about 9pm. The little tots started about 3:00.

It varies by town and city here in NH. My hometown goes 1-4 the Sunday afternoon before Halloween (so yes, we've trick or treated 6 days before Halloween before). If Halloween is on a Sunday, then trick or treat will be that day, but otherwise it's the Sunday before.

We're Delaware too and we don't get too many kids, but they started tonight at 5:30. I felt like I was barely in the door before the knocking started, my kids didn't eat till they got back home from trick or treating.

It was pretty well over by 7:00.

No official time here either, but it started early today about 2pm, I think because of the great weather. It continued for about 6 hours.

No set hours here...

I think most people in our area are ok with anything from 5:30-8:30pm or 9pm if Halloween falls on a weekend. We (8 yr old, 7 yr old and 5 1/2 yr old)started out at 5:45 and there were already a few kids out. We finished up at around 7:15pm. I think we got our last ToT-er at 8:20pm. That's earlier than normal, but it is a school night.
