Having a large group over for Christmas Eve. I love having a good combination of appetizers-hot and cold. I'm looking for a few new ideas, plus I'd like to build some ideas that I can always 'go-to' if I have company or someone drop in.

I have a few tried-and-true, simple and easy appetizers I break out any time I need to make something:

*hot artichoke spinach dip
*mini meatballs in white wine sauce
*mini quiches
*hot bacon and cheese dip
*smokie links in chili sauce/jelly mixture

Most of these have 5 or fewer ingredients and can be made ahead. Every one of them gets raves and requests for my recipes.

My go to appetizer recipes are:

shrimp cocktail
layered chili dip (cream cheese, chili, salsa and cheese, microwaved)
onion dip and chips

Our new favorite one is a block of cream cheese with roasted pineapple habanero dip poured over the top. I love it with water crackers!

My neighbor made a Pioneer Woman recipe not too long ago with jalapenos. It was great! Here it is:

Caramalized onion and a block of Brie cheese... Roll out pillsbury crescent dough and layer onions and then cheese, fold sides of crescent dough up and bake per directions on the dough. Serve with crackers!!! So good!!!

onion and swiss cheese dip(served hot), buffalo chicken dip(also served hot), celery with cream cheese

Mine are:

*shrimp cocktail
*pizza dip with crackers
*brown sugar bacon smokies
*Bacon Dip with crackers
*mozzarella sticks
*potato skins

Tastefully Simple's Beer Bread w/ Spinach & Herb Dip :thumbsup2

chips and dip
devil eggs
fruit platter and cheese cubes pineapple cubes, apples, oranges and more
veggie platter
chicken salsa salad sandwich got this from a former co-worker and do not last at all.
deli sandwich platter made myself.

I like to keep it simple.

Sweet and sour kielbasa. My SIL took one bite and decreed "You're in charge of the kielbasa from now on."

One thing I was thinking of making...you know those little smokies wrapped in crescent rolls. I LOVE them!! But they just seem so...I don't know what the word is. 1950's? I don't know.

They are classic! That's what I'm making.......

Smoked Salmon with Wasabi Cream

Mix spreadable cream cheese with wasabi paste to taste (we like it with a fairly good punch) spread over the slices of smoked salmon; roll and slice into 1/2 inch spirals. I use the festive picks to keep them rolled together. Make sure your knife is good and sharp - I had some trouble with this last year.

It is such a huge hit that I ran out within minutes of putting the tray out and was making more rolls while three of the guests were standing over me in the kitchen grabbing them as I put them on the tray. At least one of the wives "caught" her DH doing so and gave him a slap on the hand and took him out of the kitchen to wait. My dad was one of the others, so I just had to give him my mom's look :rotfl2:

Another one I do is very thin sliced garlic roast beef folded onto baguette slices spread with a cream cheese and horseradish mixture, then topped with either olives, tapenade, tomato or parsley.

One more popular one, and although it's time consuming it can be made up days ahead and frozen until needed.

Mini papadams with shredded duck, shallots and mango chutney.

I also make prawn and vegetable wontons and serve them with sweet chilli sauce (these are always a bit hit).

Prawns wrapped in rice paper served with a soy, ginger dipping sauce.

Mini Beef skewers served with satay sauce.

Salt and pepper squid

Little shortcrust tarts filled with goats curd and topped with smoked salmon

Fried wonton wrappers topped with scallops and topped with bacon dust

Slices of rare roast beef on small squares of toasted sourdough bread with horseradish cream ( I often add a sprig of watercress if available)

Tiny squares of vegetable frittata

Carrot and Parsnip fritters topped with marinated fetta

Parmesan crisps topped with beetroot dip.

Flat bread with dip

Pita bread toasted in the oven with paresan and zatar sprinkled over the top. (You need to watch these they can go from cooked to burnt very quickly.

I love a good party, hope you have fun.

hugs Quasar

Shrimp cocktail
Scallops wrapped in bacon
Oysters and clams on the 1/2 shell and...

Chips and dip for all the non-seafood lovers (I don't think there is anyone but maybe a small kid here or there:laughing:)

Make them!! I love those things. I usually make the brown sugar smokies and those are a big hit, too.

LOL.

Buffalo chicken dip (it's served warm -- perfect for a sm/med crock pot)
Bacon and brown sugar little smokies -- DHs favorite!
Cheese ball made with green onions and buddig beef
Tastefully simple beer bread with nearly anything!
Hot bacon dip (again, it's served warm and is perfect for a sm/med crock pot)
Crescent wrapped herbed brie
Knorr vegetable dip
Tex/Mex layered dip (the kind that starts with Frito-Lay Bean Dip)
Black Bean dip (again, served warm)
Rye Round with dill dip
Little pizzas (the kind made from small rye loaf, cheese and sausage)
Rotel dip (again, warm and great for a crock pot)
Assorted olives with feta cheese cubes
Tastefully simple warm cheese dip
Mini bruschetta -- very fresh tasting with roma tomatoes, garlic, shredded parmesan and flat leaf parsley and basil.
Ohhh....and take the tastefully simple garlic/garlic mix and make mini cheese garlic bread....yummy!

This weekend my friend made Dates wrapped in a small piece of bacon(just enough to go around the date. - bake at whatever temp until the bacon is cooked through. DELICIOUS! And so easy as they can go in the oven with whatever else is in there.
I didn't think I liked dates- but wrapped in bacon they are delicious.
