I mean REALLY low, around the 100 calorie mark, but preferably without artificial sweeteners because that causes migraines for me if I have more than 1 dose/serving a day.

I am still recovering from surgery and find myself in the house more than I normally like to be. So my activity level is down and my access to food is up AND I can expect my metabolism to be down due to having less Thyroid. i just started workout out again today but the whole food thing is making me nervous, I don't want to blow up while my body & Dr are figuring out what to do.

I just had a very yummy bowl of very low calorie French Onion soup. I made a giant pot of it with a really tiny amount of butter to saute the onions in and I skipped the cheese, 2 full mugs of it were only about 60 calories. My fitness Pal is a huge help keeping track but the rest is up to me.

Tonight I will have a chicken breast burger with a salad, tomorrow I am thinking broiled fish but I need more ideas for the next day, and so on.

If you have recipes or links I'd like them please

I enjoy laughing cow with crackers, apple/peanut butter, flat-out pizza's, and cheese-sticks as snacks. Hope it helps a bit.

I've been known to sip chicken broth from a mug. Sometimes tea or coffee just doesn't do a thing for me, but some nice warm broth fills me up.

Cucumber slices dipped in salsa. The cucumber is crispy like a chip (and you can add salt if you crave it) but without all those nasty calories.

popcorn popped on the stove in a little bit of olive oil with sea salt sprinkled on it.

I am another fan of the Laughing Cow cheese on low-fat Triscuits or Wheat Thins. I have also found that a low-fat string cheese can really help fill me up.

Would you please share how you made your soup? It sounds so yummy! Thanks!

Cup of dry LIFE cereal.
string beans

Black olives - 10 medium = 50 calories and they have "good fat" in them

Dill Pickles - 5 cal. per spear (watch out for the sodium)

I use a lot of the 99% lean ground turkey to make burgers, veggie/egg scrambles etc.

3 oz apple slices and 1 tbsp. peanut butter is about 150 calories

Cucumbers, cherry tomatoes & jalapeno (optional) - diced, add a squirt of lime & salt & Pepper. Makes a great salad topper in place of dressing, is also good on the Trader Joes "NO Guilt" tortilla chips

Last night for dinner I had:
1 cup egg beaters: 120 cal
2 oz lean diced ham: 60 cal
spinach (1/2c), zucchini (1c), red peppers (1 c), green onion (3 stalks) and tomatoes (3 cherry): 100 cal total (I weigh all veggies)
Dinner was huge and under 300 Cal - I was happy!

My favorite savory snack, and it's about 100 calories, is one or two THIN slices of French bread, to which I put on pizza sauce and a tiny bit of cheese, topped with oregano, and pop in the microwave. Like little pizzas!

I like low calorie pretzels and Grey Poupon. ;)

Apple slices and peanut butter (although this is more like 200 calories) or peanut butter and banana slices (also more like 200).

Pickles!!!

Dried cranberries... They are like candy!

Sliced cucumbers (patted dry), in a single layer on a dinner plate then doused with malt vinegar and some salt.

Sliced apples.

Popcorn (popped on the stove, not the microwave kind).

Red, orange, yellow and green peppers, sliced. Eat them plain, or sometimes with a little fat free Ranch dip.

A can of green or wax beans, drained, microwaved on a plate then sprayed with spray butter like I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (zero calories).

Sugar free popsicles (usually 25 calories each).

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming I can use all the help I can get :goodvibes

So many of you are mentioning fruit and that's usually a first choice of mine but I've been really underwhelmed by apples lately, they seem to have absolutely no taste. In fact, most fruit has been pretty awful these days and my whole family is noticing it. I wonder why?

Anyhow here is one of my favorite soups I hope you like it tchrxx

My French Onion Soup

2 bags of chopped onions
4 cans of 99% fat free beef broth
2 teaspoons of sugar
2 teaspoons of flour
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 sprinkles of Nutmeg
1 pat of butter (to saute & brown onions)

Melt butter & spread in the bottom of the pot and add the 2 packages of frozen onions on top. Boil off the water and saute until they look like they are beginning to brown. More butter would probably brown them better but I would rather have less brown onions to avoid the fat. I add all the other ingredients and then the broth and boil for around 1/2 hour.

This is one of my favorite treats. It's obviously high in salt so someone on a low sodium diet could either make their own broth or try low sodium kinds of broth. Personally, I just like the salt sometimes... yum!

Apples: Braeburn or Fuji are the only ones I will buy - sweet/tart and firm
Cantalope: Tuscan or French Kiss only
Stone fruits - orchard fresh or from a farmers market, the ones in the stores are gross, mushy and have no taste.
Grapes - grocery store seem to be decent, I like green w/a tinge of yellow, DD likes red seedless and DH likes the really dark ones, all seem to be good.
Watermelon - hit and miss
Strawberries - I go by smell, not looks. They might look tiny and sickly but when they smell great they generally taste great.
Blue & Rasp Berries - US grown only and Pacific NW cranks out some good ones.

baby carrots (didn't we just have a thread about that?), an apple, an orange, other fruit.

I really like the cereal ideas for when I'd like a cookie, I adore cinnamon and maple syrup so those are 2 good ideas for me. I also totally forgot about my love of those no sugar added fruit pop ices.

I do have a local farmers market but I think they wash their fruit in something weird to prolong freshness because so much of their stuff gives me wicked headaches. I think I remember someone mentioning that there is a way to wash fruit that would remove residues, does anyone remember because, of course I forgot it:rolleyes: I do that a lot. Thanks for the reminders and suggestions on particular kinds of fruits, I usually just get Red Delicious apples and the other usual suspects because my kids eat them. Maybe that's where I am going wrong.

Why is it I always forget about cucumbers & pickles? I totally love them but never stray from a salad with tomato and balsamic vinagrette. Love the new suggestions and hummus is so yummy, I never thought to use it as a veggie dip.

Hmm, kernel popcorn with salt & pepper might be very yummy. I love the new potato chips but those aren't even allowed in my house so fingers crossed this is a good replacement.

I LOVE pretzels but never realized they make low cal ones... maybe even reduced fat little ones, I will check. Oh, the idea of dipping them in mustard is fantastic. I adore mustard, Grey Poupon, Dijon especially the ground type... I can actually eat the ground stuff with a spoon.

I love cheese and probably should bring more into my diet to keep up with dairy and calcium intake. I usually think of cheese as such an indulgence and only buy Kraft Fat Free Mozzarella and Cheddar shredded. I wonder if they make the munchable packs with low fat now. Probably do, any suggestions on brands other than laughing Cow... I love those little wax covered cheeses... do they still make them like that?

Thanks everyone, I am so bad at coming up with new combinations for foods, no wonder I get so bored when I diet. I am going to do a bit of shopping FOR ME tomorrow and I'm printing this thread out to take with me.:woohoo:

I forgot to congratulate you for the pounds you've lost already.

Thank you. What prompted this return to diet and exercise was a bit of a slide back with putting some of the weight back on since Thyroid surgery. I got on the scale last night and was so upset, now not only do I hate my stupid scar and my lack of 'go get em' but the idea of having to re-lose weight was just one compromise too many. No way am I going to let myself slide back to where I was and I don't have the heart to readjust my ticker so I am digging in my heels. I'm moving forward whether my body agrees with me or not;) Wish me luck

Have you tried Honeycrisp apples? They are pricey, but SO worth it! Different than any apple I've had.

I love pretzel sticks.

Mini Babybel light cheese. Only like 40 cal or so. Yummy!

There are also some light oatmeal pies made by Mrs. Freshleys that are a staple in my diet! Only about 100 cal.
