What are your boys wearing to prom?

Typically boys here wear nice suits to the junior formal, tuxes to prom. However, Dd told her boyfriend to get a tux for the junior formal because that is what all of her guy friends are wearing. It’s held in the gym, but the girls are wearing full length dresses this year, form fitting and blingy.

My boys all wore tuxes with vests and ties to match their dates' formals.

Rental tuxes were totally "out" when my DS graduated 3 years ago. All the boys wore suits with smart accessories that fit their personalities. We bought DS a new one that he picked out and had tailored, with 2 shirts and 2 ties (one red and black and one black and red) and a stylish pair of shoes. He also got a haircut that morning and wore a beautiful boutonniere. We wanted him to feel like a million bucks but lucky for us, the bill was only about $500 :p .

DD's friends are wearing suits - she's taking one suit shopping today.

I wish that were the case here. DS already has a nice suit.

I think the tux thing comes and goes, or maybe it's "regional". I haven't tracked along with what the young men are wearing for grad here this season but even for DD's wedding last fall the bridal party men rented matching suits, not tuxes.

I think it depends on the type of area you live in. Around here, it's always been tuxes.

In our region, it's probably mostly tuxedos, but there are always a few guys in suits every year too.

Last year, DS wore a rented tux w/ a vest & bow tie.

This year, I may try to talk him into a nice suit for the prom because he's going to need a new suit the very next month for a family wedding, so it'd be nice if I could purchase him a suit that would do double-duty.

This is probably what happens in our area. Our son who is a college freshman took his girlfriend a high school senior to her prom last week. He's rather frugal minded and put together a navy blue suit, bow tie and tannish shirt which matched her navy blue and tan dress. He looked pretty snazzy and matched her dress well. Between he and I we were only out about 100 bucks for his shirt and tie and new navy pants.

When DS took his girlfriend to her Prom, we rented a nice Tux... The Le Strada. with a vest and bow tie that went with her dress.
It can be expensive! I think a guy can look just as sharp if he can come up with a nice suit and accessorize well!

In our district, junior prom is mostly shirt and tie for guys and short dresses for girls, senior prom is mostly tuxedos for guys and long dresses for girls. However, there are always several teens who do their own thing but look nice and respectable.

Our high school has a combined junior/senior prom. Boys wear tuxedos, with accessories to match their dates' dresses.

:lovestruc LOVE kids with their own unique sense of style! One of the sharpest looking (and for sure the most memorable) boys in my DS's class wore something very similar to this:

Now that you mention it, the bridal party men at my son's wedding all wore matching suits, too. I prefer a suit to a tux; the men in my bridal party (almost 30 years ago rented suits instead of tuxes).

my daughter went last year- all the kids I saw and in the pics had tuxes on- suits are for Jr. Prom.

Yikes. Looks like the mask. Wouldn’t want my son or my date wearing this. Lol

My son is a junior (but I don't think he's planning to go to prom this year). At his school, it is one event, open to both juniors and seniors. From what he has said-- and pictures I've seen over the last few years, all the boys wear suits. No one wears tuxes.
