my kids make out christmas list upon christmas list, but their idea of a list is to copy out any and all age appropriate toys in the catalogs that come. lol. I need to narrow things down a wee bit, and am looking for ideas that my kids may not be thinking of.

what are yours getting for christmas? mine will be 7/5/5, but will be turning 8/6/6 in feb/march (boy, boy, girl).

thanks!

My youngest is 7 (will be 8 in March) and he's asking for a dsi, legos, New Super Mario Brothers for Wii, some ds games, Tony Hawk sneakers, some Club Penguin stuff and that was really it.

DS7 (will be 8 in Dec.) and DS5 are asking for a Wii from Santa together and a few games, and both always hope for Legos! I'm trying to get them to make a list of Wii games they'd like.

DS8 wants Legos and videogames. DD5 wants an Easy Bake Oven. They have both asked for full-sized Lands End bean bags since the junior sized ones they got 3 years ago for Christmas are starting to seem small (esp. for DS8).

In your shoes, I'd tell the kids, "We/Santa only bring so much so make a list of the three or four things you REALLY want." I also tend to steer the kids toward good ideas... a la, "Wow, that looks great!" and "Are you REALLY sure that's what you want?"

Our surprise gift this year is that Santa will be bringing Pogo sticks, which is something DD5 has asked for on and off but hasn't been mentioned at all this fall.

I have girls. What don't they want. They just started working on their lists this weekend. I don't even know where to start. Their grandma is giving them American Girl dolls, but they hardly play with dolls. My SIL already bought them Barbies, which they don't play with much either. I can usually count on family getting some of the stuff of their lists but this year I think it's on us.

Wii games - New Super Mario Brothers, Lego Star Wars
DS Lite or DSi (I'm not sure which I'll be getting them, looking for a deal :goodvibes)
DS games - Mario Kart, Animal Crossing
guitar
Up
Monster vs. Aliens
books - Diary of a Wimpy Kid, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat!, Rainbow Magic Fairy books
Lego sets
iTunes gift cards
bowling ball
Pokemon cards
Bakugan stuff
Polly Pockets
moon shoes
ant farm
Easy Bake oven

DS(6) is asking for Legos and DS Lego Indian Jones 2 game. So far, that's it!
DD(11) wants gift cards to her favorite stores, clothing for her American Girl Dolls, and a computer.

Well, my 3yo nephew just got the big remote controlled dinosaur (Spike?) for his b'day and now my 2 older nephews (6 and 9) both want one for Christmas. Honestly, I think the bigger kids (and so-called grown-ups;)) had more fun with that thing than the 3yo did.

I know what you mean about wanting everything in the book - my 6yo DD is the same way. I've just made a point of paying more attention to what she actually plays with now and am using that as my guide on what new stuff to get. So she is getting an American Girl doll (Chrissa) and some doll furniture and clothes, DS games, some new stuff for her play kitchen, books, probably one set of Polly Pockets or My Little Pony stuff, and maybe a craft kit. Those are the type things she plays with most and asks for most consistently.

my son asked for Alton Brown's new book for xmas. but my kid is weird.

My boys are asking for every (animated) Clone Wars Star Wars figure, legos and video games.

jamesmommy, my kids love Alton Brown, especially my dd. Is his book geared towards kids?

I have 2 girls ages 8 & 5... not much on their list. Some DS games, zhu zhu pets, tons of american girl stuff. DH & I got them sleeping bags, which they didn't yet have. It tough this year because theres not much that actually is on their list.

My DDs are 8 and 6, they just left their lists on my desk this weekend.

Zhu Zhu Pets
Littlest Pet Shop
Super Mario Bros. Wii
Candy Jewelry Maker (it looks similar to that crappy cupcake maker I bought last year)
Wii Resort Sports
Bop It
Liv Dolls
Moxie Girls
AG doll outfits

Your kid has good taste. I love Alton!

We also have the problem of wanting everything we see. I've asked my boys to make a list of their top 5 items to try to narrow it down. DS4 keeps asking for whatever DS7 says, so here is a list of items they have mentioned or that I have picked up on my own.

Their requests:
DSi (They are getting these so I also picked up DSi protective cases)
DS game Pokemon Explorers of the Sky (or something like that)
Bakugan 7 in 1 toy set
Bakugan wrist score keeper thing (I really struggle with this because they say it is in their top 5, but I think it looks like something they will never play with after the first day.)
Pokemon cards
Crayola Glow STation (DS4)
Lego Indian Jones 2
Uno

In addition to these items I'm considering or have bought the following(because I do the shopping for aunts and grandmas):
Imaginext Fortress (for DS4 when it was cheap at Kmart)
Pictureka (DS7) It looks fun.
Wii Smashbrothers (they used to love it on gamecube)
Wii Toy STory Mania
Pokemon Yahtzee type game
PJs and maybe robes
G-force and Night at the Museum 2
Pokemon Sticker books
Stink books for DS7
Pokemon Ultimate Guide book
KC Chiefs kids size folding chairs

8.5 year old DS is asking for 39 Clues books, Legos, a microscope, Nintendo DSi, and board games. He hasn't picked which games yet. He just got Life and that has been a big hit.

It's not geared towards kids. My weird kid will probably just look at all the pictures. We've gotten him a couple of sets of AB dvds at Target and he loves watching those in the car. He asked for a new set for xmas.

My DS8 is like the others and wants Legos and Wii games, specificly IJ2 and Mario Bros. However, he also wants the Phinneus and Ferb CD and Tom and Jerry DVD. Anything star wars is always a hit as well--I need to see if there are any new ships out that he doesn't have.

My kids are 9 and 7--but ask on the younger side.

9yo wants the LPS adoption center and an LPS pet set
7yo wanted sweetie pie's gumball house (My little pony) and a strawberry shortcake doll, but her mood keeps changing every minute.

I've trained my kids that Santa operates on mom's budget--so when the cataogues come, they ask what the budget is.

I quit asking for them to rank gifts. I just have them ask for what they really want. And they pretty much get it. But it's within the budget, b/c they know what the budget is. If I get a year where they are asking for something that is very difficult to obtain, then I request backups.

ETA: Sorry saw that you only have 1 girl! My girls were asking for this type of stuff around her age.

My son will be 9 in February. He's asking for:

DSi
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
My Sims Racing
Pokemon cards
Baseball lessons (batting, fielding)
itunes gift card
Subway gift card
new Saints jersey

Between Christmas and his birthday (and various family members) he'll probably get all or most of the things on his list. I always add in things he didn't ask for too. This year it'll be the first couple of 39 Clues books, Diary of a Whimpy Kid, Snap Circuits and maybe a couple of other small things.

DD (3) is easy. All she asked for is pink balloons. LOL.

My youngest will be seven on the 20th. He's asked for a DSi, Mindflex, Piranha Panic, a Star Trek tricorder and phaser, several Star Wars toys, Lego sets, and is asking Santa again this year for fake blood. :sad2:

My ds6-will be 7 in March, has asked for:
grinder salt and pepper shaker:confused3
a spatchula:confused3
an electric pencil sharpener

DSI
and a trip to Disney....

The only thing he isnt getting is the trip to Disney due to $$
