I'm just looking for some different appetizers to serve this year. We do the fruit/veggie trays, cheese and cracker trays, ham and rolls, sometimes shrimp, cookies, maybe a pie or cake. Just looking for something different.

What are you guys serving? Please share your recipes. :) :santa:

Chicken-Bacon Poppers
• 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
• 1 lb. sliced bacon
• 2 TB. BBQ 3000
• 1/2 Cup firmly packed brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a flat roasting rack with non-stick cooking spray, place on a foil-covered roasting or broiling pan and set aside. Cut the chicken breasts into 1-inch cubes. Cut each bacon slice into thirds. It is easiest to do this before you separate the bacon into slices. Wrap a piece of bacon around each chicken cube and secure with a wooden toothpick. Combine the BBQ 3000 with the brown sugar. Drop each meat skewer into the mixture and toss gently with your fingers until completely coated. Arrange the poppers on the rack and bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes, until the bacon is crisp and the topping browned.

Prep. time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 30-35 minutes
Yield: 45-48 pieces

This is from Penzey's Spices. The BBQ 3000 is one of their blends. It's a mild BBQ flavor, use more if you want more 'zip' to your poppers. http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/p-penzeysBBQ3000.html for info of what is in the blend if you can't get to a Penzey's or order online. Browse their recipes while you are there, most of the are very, very good.

I hope you get a lot of good ideas, my wife 'n I decided we're havin' nothin' but appetizers for Christmas day, although if it's nice 'n cold we might also have a good homemade soup.

I take good sized dill pickles, cover 'em in cream cheese then wrap 'em in thinly sliced smoked turkey or honey ham 'n slice 'em.

Thanks for the recipe. It sounds good! I get Penzey's spices too. Love them! I'll have to see if I have the BBQ flavor. I think I do.

I get their magazine/recipes. My eyes gloss over after awhile. I really should take it a page or two per sitting. So much going on in that magazine. But some really good information!

Looks good! I love dill pickles. I'm the only one in the family that does though. Maybe I'll make some for me. :upsidedow

Cream Puffs from Sams. yummmm and no work!

Hey, I get pre-made stuff too!

Thanks guys!

I'll check back later.

My family loves dips, so I'm making:

Chicken Wing Dip http://allrecipes.com/recipe/franks-red-hot-buffalo-chicken-dip/detail.aspx

Lobster Dip http://allrecipes.com/recipe/lobste...se real lobster or you can substitute shrimp)

Southwest Chicken (on this one, I eliminate wrapping the "inside" in crescent rolls and just baking it in a pan and serving with nacho chips): http://www.razzledazzlerecipes.com/pampered-chef-recipes/chicken-enchilada-ring.htm

Spinach Artichoke Dip http://allrecipes.com/recipe/hot-spinach-and-artichoke-dip/detail.aspx

We usually do "all appetizers" on New Year's Eve.

Some of them are pre-purchased frozen ones that the kids like, such as mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, etc.

Then we do some that are more "grown up" as well. This year, for instance, we are going to try this Antipasto Platter recipe from Taste of Home. I am going to add a few extra ingredients such as drained artichoke hearts and tiny baby corn as well.

I have also done a "pickle platter". I go buy every pickled veggie I can find - that pickled mix in the jar with cauliflower and carrots, pickled beets, pickled asparagus, sweet and dill pickles, etc - and arrange them artfully on a platter. That's been very popular as well.

I got this recipe in my email for vegetarian Artichoke-Sausage bagel bites the other day and thought I might try it out this year too. Looks pretty good!

We do two variations of this.

On the 1st one, instead of a pickle, you spead the cream cheese on a slice of the dried beef, then lay a green onion along one edge and roll up. You want the green onion just long enough that it pokes out one end, you use it as a handle to pick them up. Chill to set the cream cheese.

For the 2nd one, you take the same dried beef slices that have the cream cheese spread on it - and just roll them up. You don't have to add anything else. Some of our firends do them, but add minced garlic, onion powder and
worcestershire sauce to the cream cheese before spreading it on. But DH's family just likes the beef and cheese the best.

No joking - I have to use 5-6 packages of the dried beef and 3 blocks of cream cheese, when I make these. They devour the things. And they like the plain - no onion - ones the best.

My family always requests Sweet-n-Sour Kielbasa for every get-together:

1/2 bottle honey barbecue sauce (I found out the hard way, do NOT use cheap barbecue sauce. It leaves a layer of fat over the top, which I personally find gross. Better to use something a little more expensive/gourmet)
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 20-oz. can crushed pineapple (drained)
2-3 lbs. sliced kielbasa

Mix all ingredients together. Bake in 350 degree oven for 90 minutes or until bubbly (stir every once in a while).

We decided some years ago to only have appetizers, also. My son LOVES those fried green beans at TGIF so we have them and a wasabi dip, meatballs on toothpicks, sliders, croissant pinwheels and twice baked potatoes.

This year I'm looking for some other ideas, too so I LOVE these threads! :goodvibes

I had a Christmas party last weekend. I made the buffallo chicken dip already posted (with boiled chicken breast that I then shredded...not canned chicken). I also made a swiss cheese fondue with cubed bread and blanched veggies. I also had kettle chips and dill dip (that was for the "simple eaters"!), and homemade candied pecans.

If you have a Costco by you, buy their spinach and artichoke dip in their refrigerator section. Put it in a baking dish and top with cheese. Serve when warm and bubbly. It tastes AWESOME and just like homemade (trust me, I know, I used to make this from scratch) but without any work and probably cheaper than buying the artichokes and spinach.

Thanks for the recipes guys. :)

I might add some meatballs and little wieners in crescent rolls. I don't know yet. There are some stand bys that are tradition, but I want some surprises this year.

We do appetizers all day on Christmas day, except for breakfast. I make a breakfast casserole or breakfast pizza the night before to pop in the oven in the morning for that.

Oh yeah, that sounds really good, thanks for postin' that! :thumbsup2

Love those TGIF green beans. We have trouble findin' those, but when we do we buy several packages.

I'm gonna take some chicken tenders 'n beat 'em flat, put some cream cheese on 'em with a li'l jalapeno 'n then roll 'em with a piece of bacon 'n bake 'em. And I like to take shrimp soaked with either teriyaki or soy 'n some pineapple 'n roll them in bacon 'n bake 'em.

I can't hardly wait for Christmas! :yay: :rotfl:

Yeah -- I always do my own chicken and chop it. I don't use the canned stuff. Forgot to put that in there!

When I walked in the door today, my wife told me I had to look at this thread. :lmao:

The artichoke-Sausage bites look divine!!! Who posted that? Thank you to whomever that was!

I always do cucumber sandwiches when we do apps...they're a favorite. Everyone asks for the recipe when I serve them and they don't believe how easy it is:

2 packs of cream cheese
1 package of dry italian dressing mix
rye bread
cucumbers, peeled and sliced

Several hours before you need the sandwiches, mix the cream cheese and italian dressing and let it sit. Spread the mix on rye bread and top with cucumber slices. I either quarter the slices of bread or use the party bread.

That's it!

Also, we've made these Sinful Bites of Joy before. Mmmmmmmmm. And different!
