What are you running now?

Hey Shan -

There are lots of local 10ks to look forward to running. Personally, I am going back to the Country Music Half. DH and I really enjoy it, hills and all.

I am also going to volunteer for the ING Marathon and perhaps the Alpharetta Marathon. I am not running them this year because I have to heal some stress fractures.

My long range plan is Chicago in October and perhaps the Disney Marathon in January. Disney depends on my sister. She is thinking of doing the Goofy and wants me to do the full with her. We will see.

Consider speed work for the Peachtree or the US 10k classic. Also look at the silver Comet in October - its nice and flat, almost downhill the whole way.

I'm in Bergen County too...Hackensack to be exact. What about you? I've heard about the Long Branch half. Not sure if I'll be ready for that though since I'll I've done so far is 5 miles. I was looking at a site that lists all of the races in your area and there were a few 10k's, 5k's, etc that seemed fun. I'll have to find the link again and give it to you!

No way, I am in Saddle Brook! Do you ever run on the Saddle River trail, it is a 6 mile paved trail that runs from Rochelle Park to Ridgewood, it is a great trail to run on. I actually do all my LR's there and my other runs when I run outdoors. I don't actually do a lot of shorter races, but there are lots out there.

If you are running 5 miles now, you could definetely do Long Branch in May. A few years back, I could barely run a mile in January and I did the Long Branch race in April and i was fine.

We should meet up some time for a run!

One good thing came from not really training for the WDW half--no post marathon let down and I'm super charged up for running again! :thumbsup2 Carter will be 6 months on Thursday, so as soon as the snow and ice melts and it warms up, we'll be putting the BOB stroller to use.

This is my plan for 2009:

Heart Mini marathon in Cincinnati, sometime in late March
Country Music Half marathon 4/25
Flying Pig half marathon 5/3
Thanksgiving Day 10K in Cincinnati
Either WDW full in 2010 or maybe the Goofy Challenge, but I'm scared to go Goofy, so I'll probably "just" do the full.

I'm sure I'll do some 5K's and if I can find any 10K's, they are hard to find in this area though!

OK, all of you planners!! Make sure you post your races onto the WISH calendar so we can cheer for you!! :cheer2:

Haha, small world!! I have ran in Saddle River park! Run there all the time when it's warmer. But I've only done the smaller 3 mile figure 8 loop in Rochelle Park/Saddle Brook. (I park by the Rochelle Park firehouse) I honestly don't know where to turn to get to the rest of the park, and with my luck...I'd get lost! (Actually I'm pretty sure I know where to turn...just haven't tried it yet!) I have biked the whole 14 miles a few times but that was a few years back. We should definitely meet up for a run one day. I think I might wait until the weather warms up a little though. Next month I think!

And I just realized there's a whole section for just WISH Journals...hmm... I started a pre-trippie in the actual pre-trip area...now I have to see how to move it over! :)

Cecilia, the Silver Comet might be something to plan for... I wonder how that would factor in to us possibly doing the TOT 13K, guess I need to go look at dates.

DH is running the his first full at the ING this year.

I'm still fairly new in this section of the boards, but I'm looking at:

Half Marathon - Hampton Beach, NH - Feb 15

Full Marathon - Burlington, VT - May 24

On a related note, my wife recently asked me when we can go to WDW again; I said, "How about roughly this time next year?" and she said "OK!" So, I'm in for the full for next year :)

Hi Hockeygirl & disneygirlinnj,
I live in Bergen County, Paramus to be exact. I usually run through Van Saun Park and the streets around it. I just finished my first race, the WDW 1/2, and looking for something in the spring. Maybe I'll look into Long Branch, I didn't know about it, thanks.

TheWHo--You should definetely check out the Long Branch race if you want to do a spring half, it is a flat course and it is a very well run race, I will be doing it for the third year in a row this May.

It is cool that we have more people from around here joining the WISH team, we could have a little WISH running group right here in Northern NJ!

I've registered for the following (all half marathons):

March - WDW Princess
April - Country Music Nashville
May - Wilmington DE
June - RnR Seattle
Aug - RnR Chicago - I live 45 min sw of Chicago and would love to see a ton of WISHers like we had in 2007!!

planning on:

Dec - RnR Vegas
Dec - Kiawah SC

I'm "racing" a lot this year, but keep in mind that I am a slow walker (just ahead of the sweepers), and I know that if I don't have something scheduled my training goes downhill FAST.

My only for sure upcoming event is Bloomday in Spokane, WA. I want to do the RnR in Seattle, but not sure if I can make that trip and I'm scared of possible hills. The Seattle half I did was not "gently sloping" like I was led to believe and my knees were screaming for days.

I'm also considering trying a full marathon in Coeur d'Alene, ID or Spokane. Oh and I REALLY want to do the WDW full next year, but again it all comes down to cost. :(

Luckily I've got the ESPN 5K at the end of Feb. and then the Gate River Run 15K March 14th. After that though there's nothing comfirmed until next Jan, but hopefully I'll be able to fit in the Disneyland Half in Sept.

Right now the only thing I'm signed up for is the Indianapolis Mini. There is a local race around St. Patrick's Day (I think it's a 10K) that I might also sign up for.

Haven't done ANY run since WDW! Tried to go out on Thursday since we had beautiful weather, but the hamstrings are STILL sore! Did walk ~2 miles on Friday.

MaryJ - DH and I did the Indy Mini last May - and just considering the race itself, this is by far our favorite. Yes WDW is cooler because of all the WISHers we see and the little bit of time spent in the parks, and Vegas as a destination was great, but mile-for-mile considering only the race Indy beats everyone. Amazing and varied entertainment (everything from bagpipes to jazz, to polka, country, etc), the most crowd support I've seen anywhere, and of course the lap around the Indy Speedway is hard to beat. It also doesn't hurt that the course is entirely flat!! You are going to have a blast at this one!!

Pat,

I remember talking to you about this at the WISH meet at PC. I'm looking forward to it. DH just asked me today, "When are we going to get our running in?" That means the training is about to really begin. Just wondering if I'll be the lone WISHer or if there will be any others out there. I know there have be DIS meets in Indy in the past, so I know there are DISer's in the area.
