Just finished The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

My favorite classic book is To Kill a Mockingbird and this book had that feel to it. I mean the obivious themes are there but they don't bat you over the head or get preachy. It's just life, and the overwhelming issues that surround them are just the backdrop of their heart, and relationships and the things inside that make them the women that they are.

It was a subject that should be serious and even a bummer sometimes, but while reading it I kept smiling and laughing and thinking "you go get them".

It was more than just a book about the south in the turmoil of the civil rights era. It was a book about southern women. The pretty and the ugly, not only about how that era changed them and America, but how the everyday events made them who they were.

It is definetly worth reading.

Oh and those who like Charlaine Harris try her "grave" series it's really good. I think the first one is Grave Sight.

And if you really want to read a supernatural genre book that is well written try Women on the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. She's one of my favorites. The first couple focus on werewolves but she incorporates all types of supernaturals (vampires, demons, witches, warlocks, necromancers, etc) and she had great charecter development. She has gone back and written two young adult novels written in this same world as well.

I just finished TWILIGHT. I need a few days to recover! :faint: I am absolutely, positively, immersed in Edward Cullen. The movie is in my Netflix queue AND I will be buying it for myself as a Hanukkah present! :goodvibes That ending sequence with Bella, James, Edward, Carlisle and Alice....WHOA!

Push yourself through New Moon. I didn't like it as much as Twilight. I thought it was kind of boring. Eclipse more than makes up for New Moon IMHO. It was my favorite book of the series.

I took my DD and my sister to see New Moon last Friday. My sister woke me up when I started to snore. IMO, the movie was as boring as the book. My hopes are high for the Eclipse movie in June, though. Much better material with which to work.

Welcome to the world of Twilight! I liked the New Moon movie much better than the Twilight movie. Eclipse is also my fave of the series, which I am reading now!

If you like vamps you should check out the Sookie series as mentioned before in this thread!!

I second this. If you like Edward, you're going to LOVE Eric. Especially in the 4th book, he is even more amazing than your character in your short story. And your story was pretty hot.

The book I'm reading now is called Tesio and it's a translation of a manuscript authored by a famous Italian horse breeder. I bought it because I thought it was going to have some really great insights into horses and their breeding. Unfortunately, I should have remembered the time period it was written in (the 40's). Let's just say the author's grasp of genetics (though excellent for the time period) is somewhat deficient. I'm actually now reading it for its entertainment value as I laugh silently about the author's beliefs regarding "nervous energy" and other non-scientific explanations.

Thank you so much for that! I'm pretty proud of it. Now...if I can just formulate the vampire one in my head. Been there for a few months, but I couldn't get it together. TWILIGHT has helped a bit, but I'm still stuck.

I am reading Me and My Shadow by Katie MacAlister. In this particular series of hers the men are dragons. Sounds wierd, I know. But these are very sexy dragons, and Katie has a great sense of humor!

I'm currently reading the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (I was told it's a must) but I'm also reading The Mysterious Benedict Society & the Prisoner's Dilemma by Trenton Lee Stewart. I appear to be unable to grow out of YA/children's books  so I picked up the first of the series at the beginning of the summer and the books are now pretty up there on the list of Bee's Favorite Things.

When you've figured it out and finished it, please count me in as one who wants to read it!

The Sookie books are by Charlaine Harris and are the basis for the True Blood seried on HBO, although the series varies greatly from the books. You can visit charlaineharris.com to get the full list of books, I think there are 9 so far.

Sookie is a small town waitress who happens to be able to read minds, vamps have just come out of the "closet" and she learns that she cannot read their minds, which she enjoys because she can be normal around them. The series is very sexy and funny! Not a young adult series. I think that gives you some idea what to expect without given away too much.

There are lots of other Paranormal Romance series based on vamps out there too, the Midnight Breed series by Laura Adrien, Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward.

Excellent description- I love the books (and Eric ;))!
