I haven't posted in a while. I started some medical classes, so I've been reading Medical Terminology and Anatomy books. Ick!

For fun, I've read "We Thought You Would Be Prettier; True Tales from the World's Dorkiest Girl" by Laurie Notaro. This was hysterically funny! Seriously, there were times when I would laugh out loud and have to pin my DH down so I could read him something. He also thought it was very funny!

I've also finished "Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow." This is a YA book that is a re-telling of the fairy tale "East of the Sun and West of the Moon." Fantastic book!!! I couldn't put it down!

Next up for fun is "Book of a Thousand Days," by Shannon Hale, and "Ella Minnow Pea" by Mark Dunn.

Just Listen--Sarah Dessen
My Sister's Keeper--Jodi Picoult (for the 3rd time!)
The Rape of the Lock--Alexander Pope (for Brit Lit)

I think that Just Listen was my favorite of the Dessen books so far. Lock and Key comes in a close second. Are you liking it?

I just wrote all of those down. My list is getting long!

The Magicians by Lev Grossman

41c%2BLy7urTL._SL500_AA240_.jpg

Amazon Best of the Month, August 2009: Mixing the magic of beloved children's fantasy classics (from Narnia and Oz to Harry Potter and Earthsea) with the sex, excess, angst, and anticlimax of life in college and beyond, Lev Grossman's Magicians reimagines modern-day fantasy for grownups. Quentin Coldwater lives in a state of perpetual melancholy, privately obsessed with his childhood books about the enchanted land of Fillory. When he’s admitted to the surreptitious Brakebills Academy for an education in magic, Quentin finds mastering spells is tedious (and love is even more fraught). He also discovers his power has thrilling potential--though it's unclear what he should do with it once he's moved with his new magician cohorts to New York City. Then they discover the magical land of Fillory is real and launch an expedition to use their powers to set things right in the kingdom--which, naturally, turns out to be a much murkier proposition than expected. The Magicians breathes life into a cast of characters you want to know--if the people you want to know are charismatic, brilliant, complex, flawed magicians--and does what Quentin claims books never really manage to do: "get you out, really out, of where you were and into somewhere better. " Or if not better, at least a heck of a lot more interesting. --Mari Malcolm

Me too, and I'm loving it. :wizard:

Definitely Dead just arrived in the mail today :yay:. Looks to be another fun Sookie story. ;)

I just got into the series.. I'm on the third book and I'm LOVING them!!

I'm doing the audiobooks and the girl who "reads" them is incredible. Gives it a whole other dimension! :cloud9:

Well, I have you all to Blame.....I just pre-ordered the new Dan Brown book on Amazon.ca and I had to find some books to add to my order to get some free shipping...So I ordered the first Sookie Stackhouse book Dead until Dark, the first 3 in the Stephanie Plum Series and a book on Paris, France I had to have....

I will get back on here as soon as I read one to let you know if I liked them.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I just want to say, I follow this thread avidly and now have about a million books on my want to read list. I'm really envious, I would love to crawl up and read a good book! Life here is just too crazy now, but FWIW, I'm reading "Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle" to my DD!
Thanks for posting all your titles! :thumbsup2

You should see mine, Beth! I've got a whole notebook full of titles recommended by people here on the DIS. I haven't been disappointed in any of them, either!

Every time we go down to the US, I find people have a lot of questions about our country. I have decided to educate myself a little more about the United States and am reading " A People's History Of The United States 1492-Present". by: Howard Zinn

I kid you not....seriously:lmao:

Here is what I know so far..... Christopher Columbus was not a very nice person;)

Most history books paint him as a wonderful man. When I got to know what he was really about, I was shocked that we still admire him.

Ditto.

I am having a really hard time finding stuff that will hold my attention right now. I think my mind is just racing too much.

My Kindle is not working correctly, so that's not helping.:headache:

Many men who've made it to the history books were not the nicest of men.

Ben Franklin wasn't exactly a man I would have wanted to know. Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Lowen has some very interesting information. I was fascinated when I picked it up. And I am a teacher!

I posted this seperately then thought that this may be a better spot:

Kindle 2 Owners: the M Edge light is now available

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally! Although it's not being widely publicized by Amazon (they're pushing the Mighty Bright clip on), the M Edge eluminator is available for the Kindle 2.

I ordered mine Sunday's a week ago and was told that it would not ship till mid month, it arrived last Friday. So far, so good!

Just started reading - Eiffel's Tower (of full title "Eiffel's Tower: And the World's Fair Where Buffalo Bill Beguiled Paris, the Artists Quarreled, and Thomas Edison Became a Count")

Finally sat down and began reading Corsair by Clive Cussler and Jack Du Brul. It's gonna be quick reading!

The Host. I just started reading it and it's a little hard to get into.

I agree The Host was very hard to get into but it really is worth it in the end I think. I really enjoyed this book. I did not like the Twilight book though.

I'm currently reading Forever by Nora Roberts, it has 2 stories in one. I'm almost done with the first story.

Up next is the new Sandra Brown and Karen Marie Moning (Spelling?)
