Right now, I'm in the middle of The House at Riverton by Kate Morton. It was raved about on another site I visit. Here's a synopsis:

Summer 1924: On the eve of a glittering Society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again. Winter 1999: Grace Bradley, 98, one-time housemaid of Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken and memories, long-consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind, begin to sneak back through the cracks. A shocking secret threatens to emerge; something history has forgotten but Grace never could. A thrilling mystery and a compelling love story, "The House at Riverton" will appeal to readers of Ian McEwan's "Atonement", L.P. Hartley's "The Go-Between", and lovers of the film "Gosford Park".

Has anyone read "Nobody's Girl" or "Playing My Mother's Blues"?

I just pulled both out of my "new book" case.

I just started The Time Traveler's Wife. I'm a little confused but so far so good. I just finished Breaking Dawn.
I was very confused by this book at the beginning also. I wasn't sure if i really liked it either because the whole "time travel" thing just had me rolling my eyes. So many times I was going to give up, but I really hate to do that with a book.

I'm so glad I finished it because I ended up really enjoying it. I really enjoyed the characters.

I did have to go back & re-read a few things & it wasn't until quite a few pages in that I began to figure things out & become less confused  but it was worth it.

Keep trying.................I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'm so glad I read it.

Anyone read The Lace Reader yet? I've got it for vacation starting Friday!

That's good to hear. I just started it while waiting for DD to get her allergy shots at the Dr., so I'm only about 15 pages in so far.
I thought it started slowly, but then it got to the point where I couldn't put it down.

I read Dead as a Doornail yesterday. I really enjoyed it. I'm starting "Definitely Dead" today. I want to read all the Sookie Stackhouse books before True Blood starts on HBO this fall. I really like that Sookie went from mousy virgin to having so many vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, etc. jonesing for her. She's a strong character that still has a heart of gold.

I am reading The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. I don't like it nearly as well as her first book, The Secret Life of Bees.
I just finished Whistling in the Dark, don't remember the author. I REALLY liked it.
The Time Traveler's Wife was very strange. I kinda enjoyed it, but it's not one I would read again.

I just finished reading The Beach House, and I LOVED it! It was a very quick read, and I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's work. :)

I read Second Chance by the same author...nice and light, good summer read. I need a break from the 'heavier' books that I read in my Book Club. I plan on reading The Beach House too.

I also read Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos. That's her second book. Her first, Love Walked In, was good as well. Again, good quick summer read.

One question, if you can remember the book...........I've only read about 25 pages but I'm a little confused as to who is "narrating" at this point. It seems as though it started out as the girl & now her father is telling/narrating a story. Is that correct?

I've had to re-read a few paragraphs because I'm not sure who is "speaking", but I think it is just the father relaying a story.

I just finished "Annie's People", the trilogy by Beverly Lewis, stalking the board for some new ideas......

you might like the Mitford series by Jan Karon I am currently on book two. It is about an Episcopalian minister and his little town

You are right. It jumps from the girl to her father back to the girl, and on and on throughout the story. Once you get into it more, it'll make more sense. It is confusing when she is reflecting on her father's letters from Rossi because it is less defined as to whom it is narrating.

The Historian was the first historical fiction book I've ever read. I especially like historical stories about Eastern Europe and this gave me my fair share of stories.

Just started "Breaking Dawn", the last of the Twilight series. Loved them!

Thanks. That will definitely help to know what while I'm reading it!

New Moon... just finished Twilight, finally got good at the end... New Moon has been very good, I am almost finished :thumbsup2

I finished Breaking Dawn and loved it despite all the mixed reviews. It's not how I'd have written it but *shrug*.

Currently I'm reading the latest Rachel Caine ... I can't think of title but it has something to do with weather. Weather Wardens series which I also love.

What am I reading right now?
Come Be My Light, which is about Mother Teresa. I'm not a religious person or a Catholic, but I did admire her a lot. It took guts to do what she did.

I'm reading Jeffery Deaver's The Broken Window, the latest of his Lincoln Rhyme novels. It's good!

I'm just starting book 3 in Tracie Petersen's "Ladies of Liberty" series. She is one of my new favorite authors. I love historical fiction, and she is a christian author.

I just finished a series by Wanda Brunstetter that was great, similar to Beverly Lewis books in that they are about the Amish.

Intermingled with the historical fiction, i've been reading TONS of books lately, like 3-6 per week. All Jodi Piccoult books, Beverly Lewis, Jennifer Chiaverigni (Elm Creek Quilters series), Tracie Petersen, Karen Kingsbury, then I've tossed in some political books. Recently read Glenn Beck's first book, and have started his newest one, An Inconvenient Book. I love his humor.
