I just finished Mao's Last Dancer by Li Cunxin and really loved it!! It was an unusual book for me to pick up but I'm so glad that I did. Really enjoyed every word.

I just started What The Dead Know by Laura Lippman and I don't like it at all so far (about 70 pgs in). I don't care for the story, the writing, the characters, anything, bleah!

The Kite Runner is up next :D

I just finished the latest Sophie Kinsella "Remember Me?" It was pretty cute and a quick read.

Mosse's page-turner takes readers on another quest for the Holy Grail, this time with two closely linked female protagonists born 800 years apart. In 2005, Alice Tanner stumbles into a hidden cave while on an archeological dig in southwest France. Her discovery—two skeletons and a labyrinth pattern engraved on the wall and on a ring—triggers visions of the past and propels her into a dangerous race against those who want the mystery of the cave for themselves. Alaïs, in the year 1209, is a plucky 17-year-old living in the French city of Carcassone, an outpost of the tolerant Cathar Christian sect that has been declared heretical by the Catholic Church. As Carcassonne comes under siege by the Crusaders, Alaïs's father, Bertrand Pelletier, entrusts her with a book that is part of a sacred trilogy connected to the Holy Grail. Guardians of the trilogy are operating against evil forces—including Alaïs's sister, Oriane, a traitorous, sexed-up villainess who wants the books for her own purposes.

Someone please reassure me that Atonement picks up. I am only on page 10 or so and it's just a bunch of blah blah blah about a play that kids are putting on. Everyone says this book is soooooooooo good and it's boring me so far.

Please help!

I just finished reading Into the Wild which was our March book club pick. We're meeting on 3/31 to discuss it. I really liked it a lot!

I just started reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I'm on vaca. and read half the book this morning. I'm supposed to spend all of April reading it for my book club but wanted to read it so badly! I think I'm going to have to put it down and read something else so I can remember what it's about for our book discussion at the end of April!

Oh no, now I'm scared. This is on my list to read next & if you don't like it, chances are that I won't either!

I really enjoyed Nineteen Minutes.

I found the way she wrote about the characters fascinating. I am an adult & my heart broke for Peter, while one of my high school age daughters never felt anything for Peter but disgust. I would ask her every night if she felt bad for him at all & she would say, "nope, not after what he did".

But you know, I haven't talked to anyone who disliked it. It may be one of those books you just have to give a chapter or two to get into. Know what I mean?

That's true. There have been many books that I've been so-so about while reading them & then when they're over I sit back & think "Gee, that was actually pretty good".

I did that with The Time Traveler's Wife. BTW - did you ever end up reading that?

I picked it up a sometime last year, read 10 pages and sold it to a used bookstore! :lmao:

I finished Two For The Dough last night and I just started Nineteen Minutes today.

Today I finished The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. It was a great beginning, great middle, but the end? I was really disappointed. It just felt like Nicholas couldn't think of a good resolution and just "made something up."

Anyone else feel that way?

I did, when I was finished I couldn't believe that was the way he ended it.....:confused3

Refresh my memory on this one because I just finished a book by him but can't remember the title now.

The book I recently read had the main male character in the Army. Same book or not?

I'm finishing up In Deadly Combat: A German Soldier's Memoir of the Eastern Front by Gottlob Herbert Bidermann

The iPod is playing Pride and Prejudice on my commute. Paper-wise, I'm waiting for the next Dresden novel to come out next week.

I just picked up my favorite author's new book, Raymond E. Feist's "Wrath of a Mad God". Fantastic so far :thumbsup2

Darkly Dreaming Dexter (got it from the library b/c I wanted to comapre it to the series).

I just finished These Is My Words by Nancy Turner. It was phenomenal. Kind of like a Little House on the Prairie for adults (that is a good thing!) After the first 50 pages or so, I couldn't put it down (not easy with 3 kids!). I thank the DISer that recommended it on one of these threads!
I just ordered this from Amazon. I loved the Little House books & really enjoy reading about that time period, so I hope I'll like it!
