What Are You Reading Right Now?

I really love John Irving books too (although he's definitely a strange cookie).

Right now, I'm reading "Chalked Up" by Jennifer Sey -- she was the US Gymnastics champion in 1986, and it talks about what life was like as an elite female gymnast. Abusive coaches, eating disorders, injuries -- sounds fun, right? So far, the book is very interesting.

Thanks to all of you on this thread for making such great suggestions. I have read many of the authors mentioned based on your recommendations. :thumbsup2

I just started reading "Dead Until Dark" by Charlaine Harris. I am addicted to it! HBO's True Blood got me into it. Its a good book, I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

But aside from them, I'm reading The Judas Strain by James Rollins. I love me a good adventure book

The Judas Strain is good, I generally enjoy all of his Omega series, but The Last Oracle dragged me down. I sat it down about halfway through and have not picked it back up! Shame too because I purchased it in hardback! :rotfl:

Finally picked up Tribute by Nora Roberts, I had put it off as long as possible as I speed through her books and then hate that they are over. Good as usual. My collection is getting a little slim, although I have a few Kim Harrison's and Laurell K Hamiltons along with the lates Jim Butcher, which I have also put off reading. I hate that Sci Fi cancelled "the Dresden Files", it was actuallly pretty good.

From Baghdad, With Love: A Marine, The War, And A Dog Named Lava by Jay Kopelman.

I won't lie. It was the picture on the cover that got me:

It's really good so far. Funny. Moving. EYE-OPENING! A side of the war we might normally not hear about.

Finished the book on the train ride home last night. It was everything I first posted and more - a wonderful, funny, tear-filled, eye-opening story (with a happy ending - so few of those about the war!) and a very quick read. I highly recommend it.

I leave for WDW in THREE short days (!!!) and I have Stephanie Meyer's Twilight for the plane. I also just started reading YOU: The Owner's Manual by Michael Roizon and Mehmet Oz. Pretty interesting.

Tinkerbellarella, how was your trip to WDW? Fill us in! :) I'd like to know more about the book, YOU, The Owner's Manual.

I'm 2/3rds of the way through, Plain Truth. It's been excellent. I would have been done a long time ago if I had some big chunks of time. It's hard to put down! Thanks again to those that recommended Jodi Picoult. :goodvibes

I have 2 more of her books on hold. Hopefully they will be ready when I've finished this one. They are: Vanishing Acts and I think the title of the other is, My Sister's Keeper.

I just got a copy of The Shack today and hope to start it tonight.

"memoirs of marie antoinette" by madame campan

"memoirs of the court of marie antoinette, queen of france" (illustrated edition) - by jeanne louise henriette campan

"A Social History of the Navy 1793-1815" by Michael Lewis is my lunchtime read. About sailors and shipboard social life in the Royal Navy during the classic age of sail.

Bedtime book is "X Marks the Spot: New Perspectives in Nautical Archeology" (don't recall the author off-hand). Not nearly as interesting as the title sounded to me. Mostly it's just small essays describing where pirate related archeological digs are happening and what they're looking for. Not so much about the actual methods (or any new perspectives).

Last night (well - actually the wee hours of this morning) I finished "Sweet Caroline - Last Child Of Camelot"..

Trying to decide what to start tonight.. It will either be:

A World Turned Over by Lorian Hemingway (The F-5 tornado that hit Jackson, Mississippi on March 3, 1966 - from there on out referred to as "The Candlestick Tornado"..)

or

Storm of the Century - The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 by Willie Dye (The hurricane that whipped over the Florida Keys..)

If I start them and neither one "grabs me" right away, I may start an Amish series I have written by Beverly Lewis..

Just got "Original Intent" by David Barton. It is a look at the Seperation between church and state.

I am reading "Twilight" because of all the hoopla...so far so good, although I feel a little old & voyeuristic since I am 40, not a "young adult!" it should be a quick read, I just don't have that much time to read it.

I read it because of all the hoopla also. I thought it was OK - I wasn't blown away by it.

I got the 2nd book because one of my DD's would like to read it (after having read Twilight), so I may read that, but if it don't I won't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I think that is how I am going to feel too. I have a few more books in my pile that I will probably read before I read another of the twilight series. If I do.

I'm reading "Life of Pi." I'm about half way through it and so far, I love it.
